Chapter 59: Danger Close (4)
POV: Luki Burope
Diggory's Ki was flaring up, it seemed he was ready for battle. His eyes were sharp, it was like they were looking directly through the wall. Being so close I could sense his extreme amount of bloodlust, it was like killing was his only thought.
I didn't share that thought, it was far too dangerous and the cons heavily outweighed the pros.
I put my hand on his shoulder which caused him to instantly shift his gaze to me. The weight of his bloodlust also shifted, it was now being pointed at me.
"Calm down, we shouldn't fight. We will wait here and only react." I whispered, hoping that he would listen to my order.
He did follow my order as his bloodlust had gone down significantly, his Ki was still flared up but that was fine. I made sure to keep my mana locked onto the group to make sure no surprise assault would happen.
He slapped my hand off of his shoulder and proceeded to lock eyes with wall again.
We were standing here on edge; minutes had started to go by and not one person from the group moved. We are at a complete standstill, this act confirmed my prior suspicions.
They know we're here, the question is will we fight.
*BOOOOOOM* *BOOOOOOOOOM*
Loud explosions sounded out through the city, I could tell they were distant.
*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*
Metal clashing soon followed in another direction, the prior silent city was now filled with noises of battle.
I looked over to Diggory and saw his eyes were still locked onto the wall, not once have they moved. With multiple battles happening around us I thought the group would react, but they didn't.
They all kept still, I believed they were trying to force my hand.
'What should we do.... Maybe falling back would be a good option, it doesn't seem like they want confrontation. I don't like that option though, they could easily track us. Moving forward is also dangerous, I know the exact spot they are hiding in and it has a perfect view of the street. Is our only option to fight? We are heavily outnumbered though, I also can't tell how strong they are.'
My head was racing with thoughts, I was extremely indecisive on what to do.
Adding just one employee changed my plans a lot, I could no longer act in my own way. I had to make sure Diggory was involved in these plans, this changed my way of thinking more than I thought it would.
"Make a decision sir." Diggory whispered, he was still in his stance and didn't take his eyes off of the wall.
I truly wanted to make a decision, but all of them were bad options which held me back from choosing one. I decided to ask Diggory on what he thought, his opinion might help me in making a decision.
"What do you think we should do?"
"Can you tell how many are inside the building?"
"Yes I can, there are eight of them in total. They also hold a perfect position which views over the street we have to cross."
"I would suggest blowing up this entire building or retreating to use a different route to avoid a confrontation with them. If they follow us we could try to lose them or bring the fight to them. With your knowledge of this city's layout you could put us in a better position to attack them as well which makes that option the safest."
I thought over his suggestions yet was very puzzled by his first choice. The second however did make the most sense because I shared the same thought.
"Do you have the capabilities for your first choice?"
Diggory put his palm on the wall and started to move it all over the place.
"Yeah I should be able to, the downside is that it would drain a lot of my mana and I don't think it will kill all of them."
*BOOOM* *BOOOOM*
More explosions were sounding out, battles were starting to become more rampant. I started to feel like I was getting pulled towards the decision of fighting.
With all the noises filling the city my body was itching for violence. This was something quite common to happen, however my experience started to take control.
"Well good to know you can do that, but we will be retreating and taking a different route. Make sure you don't lose sight of me."
I immediately took off and started sprinting through the alleyways making sure to take as many turns as possible. I made sure my mana never left their bodies, it was risky but I could not afford to lose sight of them.
Instead of sensing things around me I decided to only keep my senses on them until they showed their true colors.
Not long after I felt the group start to move, sadly they were moving in our direction. Now they left me no choice, their lives had to be taken.
"Diggory they are following us, there's an open area close by and that's where our fight will take place. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but you must kill them."
"Okay." Was all that he said back, he sounded close by as well which didn't surprise me as the kid was extremely fast.
After 5 minutes of sprinting, we had made it to the open area. With most buildings being completely destroyed the city had a large number of open sections like these.
Buildings did surround us, however they were so destroyed that you could not hide in them or even take cover.
Diggory and I turned around with him now in front of me, our enemies were already close enough for me to see them. They didn't hide their faces, so they were definitely soldiers.
"Diggory, you see them right."
"I do, I see three of them lagging behind as well. Those three are long range, attack them first." He said while looking back at me, making sure we locked eyes.
I knew my prior mistake has led his trust in me to be at rock bottom.
I didn't let that bother me and started to raise my right hand while channeling my own mana as well as natural mana.
Ice started to form in front of me in the shape of small needles, they were a total number of 50. I started controlling the air around them as well to increase the shot speed and make their movement silent.
Diggory saw this and turned his head to look ahead of him while unsheathing his long sword. He took an offensive stance and seemed to be waiting for my attack to launch.
The group had stopped moving and attempted to take their formation, but I didn't allow it to happen.
I shot all 50 needles at once, I made sure 20 were shot between the 5 standing at the front. As my needles were shot Diggory ripped off the ground which caused a small tremor to be felt under my feet.
In less than a second my needles reached the group, they were only 200 feet away which was a very close distance for my needles.
The soldiers were able to defend themselves quite well by creating a wall of fire.
That wall was able to destroy a couple of my needles, however a majority of them broke through. In the next instant I felt one mana source disappear completely, they were killed.
Now there were seven left to go.
