1291 Hold a Meeting
Zhao Fei liked women who looked like Qian’e. Everyone liked beautiful women! If he could marry a beautiful woman as his wife, he would feel so proud!

Previously, Zhao Fei thought that Qiao Mei was the most beautiful person in the world. Now that he met Qian’e, he thought that she was as beautiful as Qiao Mei. Both of them were beautiful in their own ways.

They did not talk much before Zhao Fei drove away from the corn courtyard house. He still had to hurry up and sell the goods! His guys were all waiting anxiously for him.

“Auntie, let’s go and sell braised meat! We have to continue working today! We must earn more money! More and more every day! It’s best if we can earn 10,000 dollars a day!” Qian’e said happily.

“That thought is too scary!” Li Gui said.

They would never expect that in the future, an income of 10,000 dollars a day would just be a drop in the ocean.

Now that Qian’e could make more and more money, she had more and more things to look forward to in life. As long as there was still hope, she could do anything and work hard to overcome any difficulty.

After everyone worked for Qiao Mei for a while, they had all made a fair bit of money. Li Gui had revamped the salary structure. In the past, their pay was calculated on a daily basis. Now, people who handled the corn, like Zhou Shuang, were paid on a weekly basis while the rest were paid on a monthly basis.

When Chi Ze and the others first arrived, they were penniless and had also brought their wives along. Qiao Mei said that she would leave it to Li Gui to handle the manpower and other business issues. She would help Li Gui out if she faced any difficulties, otherwise she would concentrate on the development of new products.

In the beginning, Li Gui gave each family 50 dollars, plus five pounds worth of food stamps and five pounds worth of meat coupons as an advance salary. These people were all from the countryside, so they received very few food stamps and meat coupons from the government every month. Therefore, Li Gui intended to make up for what they lacked every month so that they were on par with people who had a city household register.

Food stamps were not that rare. When some families needed money urgently, they would exchange these coupons for money. People did this in secret and with an unspoken mutual understanding between them.

After selling the braised meat at noon, Li Gui asked everyone to stop what they were doing. She said she had an announcement to make.

She came in with a huge backpack and a ledger book and then gathered everyone for a meeting at the corn courtyard house in a very formal manner.

Everyone brought along small stools and sat in the courtyard to listen to what Li Gui had to say. There were a total of eight people in the courtyard, but Li Gui felt as if she had the entire world at her feet. It was as if she owned a big company and was the big boss.

“Well… there’s no need for everyone to look so serious. I’m here today to pay everyone’s salary!” Li Gui said.

“Elder sister! We can’t wait!” Chi Ze said excitedly as he rubbed his hands.

Chi Ze’s wife, Wang Fang, quickly secretly pinched him at the waist and whispered in his ear, “We should just take whatever she gives us. Why are you rushing her! How do you expect her to continue after that? What if she wants to say something else!”

Chi Ze suddenly realized how rude he sounded when he spoke up just now. He quickly shut his mouth and sat down obediently to listen to Li Gui.
“There are more and more people on board by now. We know that everyone needs money, so we will pay you your salary on the first of every month to make sure that you have enough for the month! However, Zhou Shuang and Sun Juan have a different arrangement from the others. They work freelance hours, so they get paid once a week,” Li Gui explained.

The three men’s wives helped out with many things every day and Li Gui kept tabs of that. For processing pig offal, each of them would be paid 50 cents a day. If they helped with the corn, they would be paid the same amount as Zhou Shuang and Sun Juan.

Li Gui did not announce the amount which each person received. Instead, she first explained to them how their salary was calculated before handing individual envelopes to everyone.

Actually, Chi Ze and the other men also did not know their real scope of work all day. As long as they saw there was work to be done, they would simply do it and help out as much as they could.

Everyone went back after that. When they reached their rooms, they all drew the curtains, looking forward to seeing how much money was in the envelope.

“Honey, make a guess at how much I have!” Chi Ze said excitedly.

Wang Fang quickly covered Chi Ze’s mouth and whispered, “You idiot! Why can’t you just keep quiet! Just keep your mouth shut! What if others hear you! Don’t you remember what happened just now!”
