Chapter 261: The Stanley Parable and ICEY
-In the second floor of the new experience, at the holographic projection area.-
Qian Kun was playing Diablo with many people watching him play.
On the projectors, Qian Kun’s Barbarian was spinning around, surrounded by countless whirlwinds hitting the various monsters around him.
The game looked incredibly 3D with the help of the holographic projector. It created an incredibly satisfying viewing experience when combined with the satisfying combat and flashy visual effects.
The viewers were incredibly impressed.
“This holographic projector is quite fun. It does a good job for Warcraft and Diablo.”
“Wouldn’t it be incredible if this replaced your monitor?”
“Don’t think it would work, the display would be too big and it would make it hard to control. It’d be difficult just to move your mouse around.”
“At least it’ll look great.”
“It’s also incredibly expensive. I think the smaller ones cost hundreds of thousands, and this large one costs over one million RMB. Who’d buy this just to play games on it? It’s more than enough to buy a few gaming pods with that money.”
“Yeah, even if you have the money, you’d need the space for it too... A normal living room probably wouldn’t even fit such a large holographic projector, not to mention the property prices in the Imperial Capital...”
“Whatever, I’ll just enjoy it here.”
Many of the regulars quickly found the new experience store since the move as they weren’t far apart to begin with, so many of the regulars came over too.
Other than the regulars, there were more and more new faces as Thunderbolt Gaming was more and more popular.
In the midst of their chat, Su Jinyu came along too.
“Qian Kun, the manager is asking you to join the meeting!”
Qian didn’t react at all.
Su Jinyu felt helpless and said under her breath, the soundproofing of these rooms are really something.
She walked in front of the soundproof rooms and knocked on the glass, gesturing for Qian Kun to come out.
Qian Kun then opened the door.
“Let’s go, the manager is calling us for a meeting.”
“Alright,” Qian Kun quit the game and followed Su Jinyu to the fourth floor.
Everyone who needed to be there was already waiting in the meeting room.
Everyone was quite relaxed and were having their own fun as Minecraft’s PC, mobile and international versions were quite successful, and Chen Mo hadn’t announced the next plans yet.
Their confidence was also much higher because of Minecraft’s huge success.
Minecraft served as Thunderbolt Entertainment’s first step into VR, which happened to be incredibly successful. The game utilized their strengths and allowed them to play around their weaknesses. They managed to create a sandbox game that took a place in the heart of millions of players becoming a hot topic despite falling short of graphics, models, and scenes.
They were also eager to hear Chen Mo’s next plan.
He probably plans to continue deeper into the VR territory, perhaps make a large scale VR game?
An FPS, first person adventure game, or perhaps an MMORPG?
Everyone was waiting eagerly.
Chen Mo stood up seeing that everyone was there.
“Now that we are all here, let’s start.
“First, everybody probably knows that the PC and mobile versions of Minecraft had incredible success, the international version is doing quite well too. Minecraft was something that everybody worked extremely hard, so I’d like to thank everyone for that.”
A loud round of applause followed.
Although a lot of it was an incredible effort from Chen Mo, it was all a team effort in its development, with a lot of blood sweat and tears over this project.
Everyone felt proud about Minecraft’s huge success.
Chen Mo continued, “Next, I’ll go over a few important points.
“First is about hiring. Our current team has expanded since last year. After working through key projects like Diablo and Minecraft, everybody lived up to my standards, especially the few main staff. Well done everyone.
“Next, we might develop games that are even more complicated, and we might even have to work faster. If you feel like you’re lacking some manpour, contact Lin Xiao and go through the interviews yourselves. I’ll get the final call once you’ve decided on someone. I’ll let you guys decide how many and who to hire, of course, I’ll get the final say in all this.
“I hope to never hear about a lack of help in future works, I only ask the games to be completed on time.
Chen Mo looked around to take in their reactions. Everybody seemed quite calm, evidently agreeing with the statement.
Chen Mo continued, “Next is our next plan.
“I can tell you guys now that I don’t plan on developing huge games in short term, meaning the next two months or so. This is because I have other things to work on and consider at this time, and I’d like to focus on that.
“Of course, even if we aren’t working on big games, we’ll be working on smaller ones. As to what games, we’ll go through that later.
“And during this time, everyone will focus on the development process. Goldfish, could you oversee the development process?”
Su Jinyu nodded, “Alright manager, no problem!”
Chen Mo continued, “There’s also a few minor things I’d like to mention related to our future. We don’t have many games thus far on the Thunderbolt Gaming Platform. Although they are all quite high quality, we can’t compare in numbers to the likes of Emperor Dynasty Gaming Platform or Fantasy Gaming Platform.
“So we’ll spend the next little while on expanding the number of games Thunderbolt Gaming Platform has. The next two games we make have this point in mind.
“Of course, if anyone has better ideas, feel free to show me a design document. If the idea is decent, you could use the company’s resources to develop it and release it onto Thunderbolt Gaming Platform. And the profit split...
Chen Mo took a few moments, “Won’t be revealed for now, but it’ll certainly be more than the other platforms. A lot a lot more.
This caught the attention of many.
Su Jinyu, Qian Kun, and Zheng Hongxi had been working under Chen Mo for a few years now. Even if they weren’t that great at the start, they were now incredibly experienced after being influenced by Chen Mo.
Especially in terms of design ideas and concepts, which was much more developed than many indie designers.
They have quite a few decent ideas, but because of how busy they were with work, they didn’t have the time to realise them.
But upon hearing from Chen Mo that they could use the company’s resources, they were incredibly happy and eager to shoot their shots.
Chen Mo continued, “Alright, that’s about it, next we’ll talk about the two new games we will be working on.
“The Stanley Parable and ICEY.”
