For a split second I thought of maybe ramming straight into the gate with my shoulder, but considering my mass that would be a stupid idea, so I ended up just shadow walking past it.
I appeared three meters in the air on the other side, with my blade risen, to strike from above the unsuspecting ogre soldier. He tried to block with a heavy hand ax, but I could cut both through the metal and his body. Then shadow walked again, to reposition before a whole bunch of his friends attacked me.
I landed between two buildings, on the side. With the advantage of another surprise attack, I rushed forward and started killing the unsuspecting troops at the backline. I managed to take down a dozen before they shouted out my position in their nonsense language. After that, the battle became a bit rougher, so I finally decided to use 'Shadow fusion'.
With the skill active, they became no match for me. I dealt with the whole crowd rather swiftly and started moving forward, just to get ambushed by another pack, this time lead by the champion.
He leaped from between the buildings and landed next to me bringing his blade down from above. I managed to dodge in the last second, as I was too damn focused on what was ahead, to actually pay attention to the sides, because I could finally see the foundation of this gigantic, slim tower.
I gained some distance with shadow walk, but he rushed after me. We ended up exchanging a few swings, spraying the sparkles around, before I made him trip with a barrier in front of his legs. He caught himself almost immediately, almost. The opening created in such a way was enough for me to cut of his head in a rather awkward swing.
This was not a performance though, but a real fight. I was not supposed to showcase my skills, but bring death to the enemies.
I charged at the soldiers left behind and dealt with them swiftly, just to reveal a band of approaching mages from ahead. Without stopping I went after them, accelerating to in the last second shadow walk behind, as they sprayed freezing cold almost in my face. I caught the road and nearby buildings covering by frost, as I started coting the spellcasters down.
This was not the end. All around me furious shouts were calling to battle, and I could feel many heavy footsteps making the ground shake.
I picked the left side, facing the tower, and started running. It was better to get to them before they assemble. Because fighting a large group of mages combined with several champions could be deadly even for me.
I needed to be smart about my battles, not just charge forward. For that, you need an overwhelming power, but I didn't. At least not yet.
Using the houses to take cover from the shards of ice, or freezing air, I managed to eventually clear the perimeter. It took around an hour and cost me a few minor wounds, plus some frostbite. Nothing my healing couldn't deal with though.
I ignored the scratches, and bruises, as those should heal themselves thank st my new fancy 'Minor regeneration' skill.
Then I went back to drop an anchor next to my shadows, shadow walk to pick the one close to the cave, and finally, bring my shadows, to start slowly picking all the crystals. 'Telekinesis' was a huge help, as I didn't have to bend down for every stone, and could make them fly straight towards my backpack.
We ended up close to the tower while getting the last ones. I had finally a moment to look at it closer, thanks to big, stone bowls full of burning oil placed in several places all around it.
My geological knowledge, at that time, was all based on some documentaries, TV shows, and few articles read on the internet, but to me, it looked like made out of obsidian. The walls were smooth. There was also a fancy element spiraling all around it. If I had to make a guess, I would say it was around a hundred and fifty meters tall. There was also a heavy door leading inside, made out of some dark wood.
I was tempted to get inside, I'm not gonna lie. My greed was whispering to my eyes.
- Just go, and get yourself another fancy class point. If you earn three a day, how much faster can you get to your goal?
I couldn't be swayed easily, though. There was a very big chance that the ice mage at the top was going to freeze me to death. If I wanted to kill him, I first needed to get stronger, and then test my skills on a werebear in the bear cave.
Killing that one would mean a have some chances with this one.
With backpacks filled and gathered, I shadow walked back to the city, to finally sell my score. I didn't earn as much as I would like, but another 11 415 000 points was not a bad number.
Tired, but happy, I finally went to take a nice, warm bath, and after got some tasty food in the cafeteria. Then for the first time in a while, I went to pick up Ki'rai in the Velvet Lotus. She was partying, dancing to the music with a bunch of people.
She looked so happy, that I just went to sit at the bar.
- Hi, Peter - said Vesa. - What can I get you?
- Do I have enough points for anything?
- Let me check - she quickly looked through her notes. - Yep. You have.
- Then get me something warm.
- Nothing warmer than whiskey - she said and poured ma a glass.
I drunk it. It wasted terrible, but the warmth in my throat and belly felt nice after all the frost thrown in my face.
I spend an hour, or maybe two small-talking with her, before KI'rai came to me, tired. She probably noticed me while partying.
We returned to the room in the barracks shortly after.
The day came to an end with 22 932 909 points remaining on my account, and seventeen class points.
