The next few days were focused on training. I spared with Druoag, but not really. He clearly was holding back, just matching my speed and pointing out every mistake I made. Despite my ridiculous strength he was still able to overwhelm me, which was very impressive, and made me wonder if I would be on pair of him if I could use 'Shadow fusion', which later led to a small accident, but about that a bit later.
I would give you a training montage, but sadly I can't since in the whole mansion there were no stairs, and as everybody knows a training montage requires some stairs to climb.
It all ended for me when I had this amazing idea while I was giving my all with Druoag in the arena. It was a very hot day, as all of them. The stands were empty and I was sweating buckets, and then it hit me. I froze in the middle of a little positioning exercise, which led to the huge alien also dropping his guard. He looked at me with a silent question.
- Just out of curiosity... You've been restraining yourself all this time, and I'm really curious... Could you attack me once? Just a single punch...
- Peter... I don't think it's a good idea.
- I'm tough. I can take a punch.
He sighed, and before I realized something blasted me, and the world turned black. I woke up in my room in the guesthouse. Since daylight was coming in through one of the windows above me, it was probably around midday. I was laying in bed with some intravenous drip stuck in my arm. A plastic bag was filled with a green liquid was hanging from a plastic thingy.
I felt quite fine actually. There was no pain or other types of discomfort.
- You finally woke up - said a familiar voice.
It was Yagg, levitating barely above the ground next to a table, where Bashan and the tree Atri were sitting. They clearly were keeping an eye on me.
- Yeah... How long was I out? - I mumbled.
- Four days. Thank the High Queen this place has very good medical care. I have a question for you, and I really have to ask it, as it was on my mind since I returned yesterday. Are all the humans this stupid, or are you special in this matter?
This comment made Bashan chuckle shortly.
- Fuck you - was my response as I took it as a form of teasing.
He got confused, and taken aback by my words, until one of the Atri stepped in and spoke to him in a language I didn't know, and probably explained those words in the current context.
- Anyway... - he restarted the conversation. - Take today off, but tomorrow we need to go through some data. I already signed you in a quite decent intergalactic league. The competition shouldn't overwhelm you, but there might be a few tough opponents there, and since we don't want any surprises, we need to go through the material I brought. Since I had to pull some strings to get you signed in, you will have to do flawlessly in the first couple of fights.
- When is my first fight?
- It's not determined yet, but probably in a couple of months. We need to use that time. The Queen wants you to climb the ladder and become well known.
- Yeah... I already heard - I said, as I glanced over at Bashan.
He responded to me, with a smile, but I had no idea what he said. One of the Atri noticed.
- Happy to help - she translated. - Druoag was worried about you after what happened, but since he is too big to fit in this guesthouse, he couldn't visit. Is there anything you would like to say to him?
- Yes. Tell him to not worry. I asked for this, and I learned my lesson.
Yagg smiled hearing what I said.
- You are not what you used to be - he pointed out. - I had a little conversation with the High Queen about your skills, and it's quite a shame you can't use them. You would have a shot at the Royal Tournament if you could use them, but your ability to escape is what made her highness decide to keep you cut off from your powers.
I gave him a fake smile in return. She was actually right in her assumptions. If I could use my powers I would get the hell out immediately and start hunting like crazy to kill her.
This led me to think about what else did she find inside my head. She could easily already know about Loistavadvaar and the ghosts. Who knew, maybe she was even using the device herself to get stronger. I had no idea what was going on out there, and I wasn't sure if asking Yagg was a good idea.
On the other hand, both Bashan and Druoag could be good sources of information, since they both seemed quite influential. A former champion of the Royal Tournament probably was very wealthy and find out what was going on on Earth if he just wanted to.
I made a mental note to ask him for that as soon as possible, without making Yagg know. The terrifying giant alien wasn't most fond of the Queen, so there was a chance he was not spying on me, like the Calludin, who definitely was reporting everything to her. At least that's how I saw it.
- We are going to live you. It seems like you need some rest - said Yagg.
The long pause I made since I got lost in thoughts probably pushed him to say that. He then said something to the rest in an alien language, and they all left, still hunted by the thoughts of what the High Queen was doing on Earth and in my city, Arc.
I definitely needed to start working on some kind of plan, to get rid of her. I knew that I was not gonna give up even despite my terrible situation.
At that point, I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes and was about to soon get surprised several times.. Both positively and negatively.
