Are You Crazy? You’re Telling Me This Is a Fugitive TV Show?
Chapter 179: Shift in Strategy: All-Out Assault on Wang Yun!“A lethal dose of powder, once contaminated and inhaled, will paralyze the limbs and result in death within two hours. Considering the travel time from here to the nearest hospital exceeds two hours, anyone contaminated with this powder is effectively eliminated.”
The production staff’s voice echoed in Captain Dragon Hand’s earpiece.
Looking at the traces of powder dusting his men’s shoulders, Captain Dragon Hand looked up to the sky and let out a long, anguished howl before squatting down and clutching his head in his hands.
He had brought two hundred program inspectors on this mission. Just within his squad, there were sixty inspectors. However, in less than ten minutes since they ascended the mountain, Wang Yun’s assault had already resulted in the loss of eight inspectors. The surprise powder attack added fourteen more to the toll, summing up to twenty-two casualties.
He had just gone up the mountain and had already lost twenty-two comrades. Twenty-two lives!
At that moment, Captain Dragon Hand could finally relate to Everick’s predicament.
When Everick arrived at the program inspection headquarters after everyone had been eliminated, he wore a vacant expression. Likewise, he felt utterly drained now. Anger had left him, replaced by a deeper sense of despair.
Wang Yun seemed like a harbinger of doom, always one step ahead, seemingly unbeatable.
“No, no! We cannot give up until the very end,” Captain Dragon Hand rallied himself with a cry of defiance.
“Wang Yun, for my brothers, I’ll fight to the end!”With a roar, Captain Dragon Hand surged to his feet, his eyes filled with a fierce resolve.
Clutching his gun, he sprinted eastward, his pace swift, driven by a single focus–to apprehend Wang Yun personally.
Revenge! That was all that consumed him now.
Meanwhile, Kolyev found himself in somewhat better circumstances than the other captains.
The police dogs had proved useless and had been sent away. His team had not only avoided the bombs but had also uncovered two along their route, which they managed to excavate safely.
“Hurry up, the situation for the other teams isn’t looking good,” Kolyev said.
He heard the other captains bellowing over the intercom, their voices strained with urgency.
His heart thumped erratically, pounding harder with each step. The smoother their progress, the more his panic grew. He constantly felt watched by unseen eyes lurking in the shadows, but no figures were in sight.
However, as Kolyev continued to lead the way, suddenly, at the back of the team, a program inspector’s alarm went off.
A series of urgent beeps shattered the silence.
“Ah!”
“What! An ambush?” Kolyev and the team halted abruptly.
The dead inspector couldn’t speak, but his gaze was fixed on the man with the little mustache beside him. Little Mustache, looking visibly alarmed, glanced fearfully to the left.
“Captain, the shot came from the left. It was a silenced gun,” Little Mustache pointed nervously to the left.
“Everyone, on alert. Take cover,” Kolyev barked out orders, and instantly, all program inspectors buzzed into action, each ducking behind nearby trees.
Another beep echoed through the air.
It was another inspector who had taken cover together with Little Mustache. He fell to the ground, his face a mask of shock.
Little Mustache suddenly yelled toward the right, “Captain, there’s someone on this side too. They’re using a silencer!”
His warning threw everyone into panic. Facing an enemy wasn’t as frightening as a sneak attack, especially one from an unseen assailant lurking in the shadows, striking when least expected.
“Damn it, everyone be careful. Helicopter, we need support,” Kolyev grabbed his walkie-talkie and called out to the helicopter overhead.
Each captain was monitored by their own helicopter.
“Received, searching again,” came the reply.
Helicopters were at a disadvantage in the mountainous terrain, struggling against the dense canopy that made visibility difficult. However, their one advantage was the powerful dual beams of light they controlled, capable of illuminating a 500-meter diameter area as bright as daylight.
“No signs of the enemy, Kolyev,” the helicopter crew reported.
The buzzing of the aircraft and the massive whirlwinds from the propellers added to the chaos on the ground, causing Kolyev and his team to scramble in disarray.
“It’s impossible! Wait…”
Kolyev paused, processing the report from above. He wondered if perhaps the enemy was concealed too well. A sudden thought then flashed through his mind.
Kolyev leaped up and, with a look of urgency, dashed to Little Mustache’s side, fixing him with a grave stare.
“Are you certain there’s someone on both sides?”
Little Mustache nodded earnestly.
“Yes, they’re all around me. I heard two muffled whooshes. The sounds of silenced shots. My comrades had no chance to defend themselves.”
Anger flashed in his eyes as he spoke.
Kolyev nodded, giving Little Mustache a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry, I will definitely catch them– It’s you!” he declared.
Before Kolyev finished his sentence, his hand on Little Mustache’s shoulder suddenly twisted. With a swift move, he executed an over-the-shoulder throw, slamming Little Mustache to the ground with a thud.
“Kolyev,” his men exclaimed in shock.
“What are you doing, Captain?” Little Mustache, pinned to the ground, looked up bewildered and shouted.
“You’re one of Wang Yun’s men,” Kolyev accused sharply. “All my teammates were brought from my own country, and they call me Kolyev, never captain. Damn it, you managed to infiltrate us.”
Kolyev held Little Mustache down forcefully, while the surrounding teammates quickly caught on to the situation.
“What? He looks exactly like Stan!”
“I remember now, Wu mentioned earlier that all of Wang Yun’s men are wearing human skin masks.”
Someone recalled Wu Mingyu’s earlier warning.
Realizing his cover was blown, Little Mustache dropped his act and burst out laughing arrogantly.
“Haha, I’ve taken down three before you even caught on. You’re not so great as a captain, not nearly as good as my Brother Yun.”
Kolyev’s anger was visible as veins throbbed on his forehead.
“Take him away,” he ordered.
Killer -1.
Little Mustache was captured alive. However, other assassins weren’t as fortunate.
Wang Yue and Wu Mingyu demonstrated formidable combat prowess. Wu Mingyu discovered that assassins had infiltrated their ranks in disguise. Although it cost them a team member, Wu Mingyu managed to discover four assassins.
These four, overwhelmed by the enemy’s firepower, resisted briefly before falling.
However, Wu Mingyu also lost three of his own men in the exchange, effectively making it a one-for-one trade.
After ending the battle, Wang Yue, with a grave expression, spoke to Wu Mingyu, “This approach isn’t working. Wang Yun must be having his subordinates split up to attack us. Our forces and attention are too dispersed.”
Wu Mingyu nodded in agreement. “Then let’s quickly regroup with Captain Dragon Hand. We’ve lost contact with his team.”
“He must be engaged in a fight with Wang Yun. If we capture Wang Yun, his followers will crumble easily.”
Wu Mingyu and Wang Yue then altered their strategy.
Capture the leader first, was the principle they followed. They recognized that greed could not cloud their judgment. Now that Wang Yun’s whereabouts were known, they focused all efforts on him, resolving to maintain their course even in the face of ambushes.
Death was an unavoidable part of the battle.
