Aspiring to the Immortal Path

Chapter 1088: The Transformation of the Five Elements

The moment Zoros entered the formation, two fire snakes lunged at him.

Zoros naturally didn’t consider them a threat, his lethal starlight instantly turning them into dust.

Zoros then saw that Tang Jie was standing nearby in front of an ornamental mountain, his hands held behind his back.

There were no gardens in this formation, so for an ornamental mountain to suddenly appear, it could only be Tang Jie’s handiwork.

Zoros could even tell that the ornamental mountain was disrupting the operation of the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation. As for why this had happened, he naturally understood now, all several dozen of the eyes on the black wheel staring at Tang Jie while a hoarse roar came from his whirlwind of a body. “So you were also an expert in formations!”

Tang Jie chuckled. “Your Majesty praises me too much. It’s just a simple Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation, unworthy of your respect.”

An Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation?

All of Zoros’s eyes constricted in unison.

This was no rare formation. On the contrary, it was extremely widespread. It was a mountain-type formation that used soil as its primary material. It was an external offensive formation that had the appearance of an ornamental mountain. Once activated, it would transform into a real mountain and crash down from the sky.

For Violet Palace–level cultivators, the Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation wasn’t particularly powerful, but it was easy and cheap to lay down.

Moreover, while its power was limited, in the transformation process of the formation, it would cause spatial tremors. After all, this was an ornamental mountain turning into a real mountain. And these spatial tremors just so happened to have a profound effect on the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation.

Tang Jie was using this one property of the Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation to interfere with the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation.

Breaking a formation with a formation was nothing much. Doing so at the lowest cost possible was the real expression of one’s formation prowess.

Zoros clearly understood this, so when he heard that it was the Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation, he immediately realized that Tang Jie was far stronger in formations than he had imagined.

For him to lock up a person like this in the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation was like an old man downing arsenic.

He was full of regret.

But he knew that there was still a chance. If he could kill this man and destroy the Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation, the formation would return to normal. His eyes instantly lit up with starlight, and rays of death wove a lethal net around Tang Jie.

In Zoros’s view, this was a battle without suspense. There was an entire realm between Deification Nether Emperor and Heart Demon cultivator, an overwhelming difference. One strike from his net of death was enough to slay him, and he was only being this serious because this man had already shattered more than two hundred Death God weapons. Still, Zoros believed that there was no way Tang Jie could block this attack.

But at this moment, a strange light burst out.

Pillars of light had emerged, creating a blue net that was even more dense than Zoros’s death net.

The nets clashed in an explosion of color, but while it was flashy and dazzling, in the middle of all this splendor, the attack of a Nether Emperor dissolved into nothing.

Zoros was stunned. “You had another formation?”

Tang Jie smirked. “My dear, if I didn’t make some preparations to deal with Your Majesty, I would just be sending myself to my death. I hope Your Majesty enjoys my Jadefire Yang Formation.”

Jadefire Yang Formation? This name startled Zoros again.

Just like the Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation, the Jadefire Yang Formation wasn’t some incredible formation. It was a formation that used flames as its primary material, but despite that, it was a defensive formation.

This formation wasn’t particularly rare to see, but it had the property of converting Fire into sunlight, which countered Zoros’s lethal starlight. This starlight was actually condensed from corpse energy, and it was only this kind of death energy thick with resentment that could instantly end a life.

After seeing Zoros’s moves, Tang Jie had immediately recognized what his strong suits were, and he knew that if he interfered with the formation, Zoros would come personally to deal with him. This was why he had laid down these two formations, and as he had expected, the Jadefire Yang Formation had neutralized the starlight. This was the power of formations. If they were laid down well and used properly, they could ignore the difference in level.

“Junior!” Zoros let out an unpleasant screech. “You think that this is enough?”

He was Zoros, Nether Emperor Zoros!

The lethal starlight was his everyday skill, but it was not his only one, nor his strongest!

Tang Jie had seen his starlight, so he could take countermeasures, but what of those he hadn’t seen?

With his Deification powers, any attack should have been more than Tang Jie could handle. A moment later, Zoros opened his mouth and blew at Tang Jie.

His breath transformed into a small tornado less than half a foot in length, almost a little cute. But it rapidly grew larger, soon reaching the size of an adult. Astonishingly, it also had a nose, eyes, and a mouth that roared at Tang Jie and threatened to devour him.

But he didn’t panic, smiling and saying, “Fortunately, I prepared some other things.”

He snapped his fingers, upon which numerous vines grew out of the earth with incredible speed, instantly forming a jungle, the branches all bearing sharp teeth and spitting flames.

Tornadoes used their rotational power to kill, but these vines were all deeply rooted, and their branches weakened the wind. Thus, the tornado was like a fly running into a spider web, and after a few moments of struggle, it ultimately ceased to move.

Another attack from a Deification Nether Emperor had been undone by Tang Jie’s new formation, and Zoros was dumbfounded. “You know of my Wind God Art?”

There was an easy explanation for his starlight, but Zoros had never used the Wind God Art before, so he was puzzled as to how it could be seen through.

Tang Jie laughed. “Zoros, you view yourself too highly. One doesn’t need to know you down to the exact detail in order to counter you. Now, since you’ve made your attack, you should take mine!”

He waved his hand, and countless golden points of light appeared in the air. These were actually blades, pulsing with spiritual power as they floated in the air. On closer inspection, these blades were similar to Tang Jie’s Nine Heavens Calamity Blades, and in fact, this was the Cloud Blade Severing Formation, which had been developed from the Nine Heavens Calamity Blade. The Nine Heavens Calamity Blades had started off as an evolution of a formation, and now they had returned to being a formation, though one very different from the original Jade Gate Heaven Seal Formation. The Heavenly Cloud Blades had only been part of that formation, which had too many functions and responsibilities, so the power of the blades had been limited. But this Cloud Blade Severing Formation was created solely to kill, so while its size was small, its power exceeded that of the Jade Gate Heaven Seal Formation.

The blades whistled toward Zoros.

These metal blades were unimpressive individually, each one the equivalent of a full-strength attack from a Heart Demon cultivator, but when there were thousands of them in a neverending surge, it was like dozens of Heart Demon cultivators attacking him all at once. Even Zoros was caught off guard by such an assault, and he began to release puff after puff of white smoke.

This smoke was rather strange, as any metal blades that entered the smoke would decay as if experiencing eons in seconds, dropping to the ground as hunks of rusted metal before dissolving back into Metal Element energy.

But the formation was continuing to fire blades, forcing Zoros to be constantly on the defensive.

Seeing this, Zoros suddenly screeched, and a shockwave pulsed out, pushing back against the storm of blades.

Tang Jie was unsurprised, and with a whistle, there was a flash of blue light, and a wave of water rose up.

Zoros was no longer surprised.

When the Cloud Blade Severing Formation appeared, Zoros realized that Tang Jie had probably laid down Five Elements formations. Since four out of five had appeared, the fifth naturally wouldn’t be missing out.

Yin Yang and Five Elements encompassed all variations of spell arts in the world, so using Five Elements formations against him was actually the safest option. Tang Jie truly hadn’t known about the Wind God Art. Instead, he had laid down the Five Elements formations so that he could counter Zoros no matter what he did.

The Dao of Five Elements, with its all-encompassing variation, was the best for this kind of situation.

As expected, the raging waves of the Water formation halted Zoros’s attack.

As the fifth formation emerged, a light erupted, and Zoros sensed a powerful energy rising up, much to his dismay. But it was too late to do anything, and the energy surged out, spreading into the surrounding Chaos Net Heavenly Formation.

Zoros was stunned and enraged, realizing that he had once more fallen for Tang Jie’s trap.

His goal had never been to defeat Zoros, but to break down the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation.

Tang Jie had bought enough time for his Five Elements Transformation to reach a critical point, and an immense energy was pouring out.

The Illuminating Mountain Shadow Formation could only disrupt the Chaos Net Heavenly Formation, but this Five Elements Transformation would serve as the true lethal blow.

As the energy began to flood out, seeking the utter destruction of the formation, Zoros suddenly shouted, “If you don’t attack now, we will fail our God’s mission and all be executed!”
