Hundreds of high-tier cultivators had gathered above Great Sun City, twenty-some Violet Palace True Lords among them.
Tang Jie gazed at the approaching Yuan Tianzhong and chuckled. “‘Leaving’? Why would I want to leave?”
He slapped Wu Xiuqian, causing Wu Xiuqian to helplessly drop to his knees in front of Tang Jie.
Yuan Tianzhong happened to arrive at this time, and when he saw Wu Xiuqian drenched in blood before Tang Jie, he angrily said, “Tang Jie, what’s the meaning of this?”
In his mind, he was alarmed. How had this guy gotten stronger again? Even Wu Xiuqian was no match for him anymore!
“‘The meaning’?” Tang Jie arched an eyebrow. “Don’t you have to ask him that? Why did he suddenly attack me?”
“He was just following my orders to bring back the guest…” Yuan Tianzhong still wanted to argue, but then he suddenly realized something and stopped.
Tang Jie smiled. “You aren’t going to defend yourself? Yes, what’s the point? No matter what your explanation is, we still have to fight, no? No matter how many righteous excuses you pretty it up with, you can’t hide the fact that you’re going to try and kill everyone and shirk your debt.”
Yuan Tianzhong took in a deep breath. “Tang Jie, you’re very smart, so smart that if I tried to argue, I would be bringing shame to both you and me. But your intelligence is offset by your greed! If you weren’t so greedy, would all this be necessary?”
“You think it was too much? I didn’t force you to sign. Fine—maybe the situation at the time compelled your hand, so I’ll make a concession. I’ll lower the debt owed by your domain by twenty percent– no, thirty percent. You only need to pay back seventy percent of the loan. Is that fine?”“This…” Yuan Tianzhong was at a loss for words.
So he thought that Tang Jie charged too high of a price? Now that Tang Jie had cut the price by thirty percent, was that still too much?
But for some reason, Yuan Tianzhong couldn’t bring himself to nod.
Even seventy percent of that loan was a massive sum for the Flame Yang Domain!
No!” a voice rang out. “You asked for a sky-high price at the start, so if you want to decrease the loan, then only ninety percent will do, leaving only ten percent of the loan, and we have five hundred years to repay it, without interest.”
This demand had even Yuan Tianzhong turning a little red.
It was a little too shameless.
Tang Jie chuckled. “Is that what Sect Master Yuan wants as well?”
Yuan Tianzhong grunted. Since someone on his side had already made a counteroffer, he felt it was shameful to refute it.
“Cutting the loan by ninety percent and letting the remaining ten percent be repaid over five hundred years without interest? Sect Master Yuan, who is the greedier here: me, or you?”
Yuan Tianzhong couldn’t retort.
It felt like it was his side that was greeder and more out of line.
But then he saw a playful look in Tang Jie’s eyes.
He suddenly understood and shouted, “You actually weren’t planning to make any concessions at all, were you? You’re just pretending because you know that we would never let you go…”
Tang Jie laughed. “Yes, I had no plan to make any concessions. I just wanted to tear off that disguise of false morality you were all wearing so that everyone could see your true selves.”
“And what about it?” Fairy Hong Luan stepped forward. “Since things have already reached this point, there’s no going back, so what does it matter if we cast aside that false morality? In this world, it is always the strong who hold sway. You might have exposed us today, but history is written by the victors. In the future, we will all still be lofty figures, models of the world revered by all!”
“Agreed!” The cultivators all clapped.
“Agreed!” To their surprise, Tang Jie also clapped his hands in praise. “History is always written by the victors, which is precisely why I want to establish the justness of this battle. When the histories are written, I need sufficient evidence to show that all of you were seeking death.”
As Tang Jie spoke, he flourished an item.
It was a recording stone that could preserve voice and image for the historical record.
The entire conversation just now had been recorded within.
Fairy Hong Luan laughed. “And? We just kill you and then destroy the stone.”
She thrust a palm at Tang Jie.
She was Fairy Hong Luan, a Deification cultivator of incredible strength that placed her as one of the strongest Violet Palace True Lords of the Flame Yang Domain. This palm strike carried thirty percent of her strength, which was quite excessive considering that she was dealing with a mere Heart Demon cultivator. This was only because of the abilities Tang Jie had shown in the past and the fact that he had already defeated Wu Xiuqian.
As Fairy Hong Luan struck, everyone stood back.
In their eyes, Tang Jie was already dead.
But something shocking happened.
Tang Jie simply thrust a finger back in response.
As finger collided with palm, the finger didn’t snap. Instead, Fairy Hong Luan’s palm exploded, and Tang Jie’s finger stabbed into her throat.
And then Fairy Hong Luan’s body froze as cracks appeared across it, after which she exploded into pieces.
There was no blood, only an eruption of flame that burned Fairy Hong Luan to ash.
“This…”
Everyone was stunned.
Fairy Hong Luan had been slain in a single move?
Some people didn’t believe it, thinking that this was some technique of Fairy Hong Luan and that she would be reborn like a phoenix at any moment now.
But before that moment could arrive, Meng Qihong let out a strange howl. “How could this be!?”
This old man has basically had his world turned upside down. Letting out a cry, he threw out a powerful blast. Because of Fairy Hong Luan’s death, he had put all his power into this attack.
Tang Jie still responded with a finger.
Just like earlier, the finger blast pierced through the palm blast, shattered his hand, and stabbed into his throat, and the old man followed Fairy Hong Luan in shuffling off this mortal coil.
Just like that, Tang Jie had killed two True Lords.
While Fairy Hong Luan had been careless, Meng Qihong had used all his power.
How could he have been killed in one strike?
Yuan Tianzhong felt his blood run cold.
He turned to Tang Jie, who was grinning back at him.
And then he saw Tang Jie’s aura begin to soar.
…From Heart Demon to Soul Transformation, and then into Violet Palace, only stopping at Deification.
“Deification, you’re at Deification!”
Yuan Tianzhong cried out in understanding.
“Correct,” Tang Jie answered with a smile.
“Bastard!” Chang Xiran bellowed, his Heartslayer of Union and Departure unleashing a torrent of sword energy at Tang Jie.
He didn’t know how Tang Jie had reached Deification, but he didn’t care. He only knew that this despicable scoundrel had been hiding his strength and had essentially killed Fairy Hong Luan and Meng Qihong through some sort of ambush.
If that wasn’t the case, how could he have killed them in one move?
As for the fact that Meng Qihong had used all of his power, he disregarded that. After all, while that palm strike had had sufficient power, it was no Divine Connection, and he had made no attempts to protect himself.
But this time, Chang Xiran was truly going all out.
The Heartslayer of Union and Departure unleashed its most powerful Divine Connection while he surrounded himself with layers of barriers. There was no way Tang Jie could kill him in a single strike.
But Tang Jie simply shook his head.
He swung his sword.
The Sovereign Blade cleaved into the flood of sword energy, and the sword torrent evaporated like a bonfire encountering a deluge. As the Sovereign Blade clashed with the Heartslayer, the Weapon Mantra was activated.
A moment layer, the Heartslayer shattered, transforming into a golden mote that the Sovereign Blade absorbed.
Now that it had a weapon soul, Tang Jie could use the Weapon Mantra through the Sovereign Blade.
Chang Xiran was still trying to understand what had happened to his Heartslayer of Union and Departure. What had happened? Why had the sword come apart? It had… shattered? How could that be?
As those countless thoughts filled his head, the golden sword turned into a golden spear, piercing through his barriers and stabbing into Chang Xiran’s body.
As the spear penetrated Chang Xiran, a sliver of sword intent sliced open his Violet Palace and cleaved apart his Divine Soul.
Chang Xiran’s soul dissipated.
This seemed complicated, but to outsiders, all that happened was that their weapons had clashed, and then Chang Xiran’s sword had shattered. After that, Tang Jie’s sword had turned into a spear which had stabbed Chang Xiran, who had died on the spot.
Unlike Fairy Hong Luan and Meng Qihong, he had left a corpse, so everyone could see that the Celestial Sword Gate Master was truly dead.
Slain in a single blow.
“NO!” Yuan Tianzhong finally shouted.
Everything had happened too quickly. Tang Jie had only attacked three times and had killed three Deification True Lords.
Those were Deification experts, not everyday cultivators, but Tang Jie had killed them all the same.
How was this possible?
How could this be?
Yuan Tianzhong’s world view had utterly collapsed.
But there was no time to be shocked. Acting on instinct, he flew up and mustered up all his energy. “Tang Jie, you…”
“Save the chatter and let’s fight,” Tang Jie casually said. “So you’re the next one? So long as you can endure my one strike, then you can live.”
“What?” Yuan Tianzhong almost fainted.
What did Tang Jie say? He could live if he could endure one strike?
Could a Soul Projection cultivator like him not even block one strike?
He was furious, wanting to curse, wanting to crush this bastard.
But then he saw Tang Jie’s icy gaze, and he recalled the deaths of the three who had gone before him.
He inwardly trembled, and as he summoned countless defensive barriers, he pointed at Tang Jie and roared, “Kill him!”
Although the other three were dead, there were still several hundred apex cultivators of the Flame Yang Domain here, around twenty Violet Palace True Lords among them.
If they charged in, they could crush Tang Jie to death with their sheer numbers.
All of the cultivators roared and began to attack Tang Jie, unleashing hundreds of spell arts and Divine Connections at him. Gone was their disdain, and they focused all their strength against their foe.
So many Violet Palace and Soul Transformation cultivators here would present even an Earth Immortal a challenge.
But Tang Jie sighed, “Simply… seeking death.”
He threw the Sovereign Blade into the air, and it transformed into a sword that shot toward Yuan Tianzhong. At the same time, Tang Jie’s body began to glow.
