Chaos Heir

Chapter 1160 Direct impact

Chapter 1160 Direct impact

A few minutes before Khan landed on Zoyama's moon, the teams of soldiers all around the celestial body stress-tested their equipment's communication channels, checking whether everything still worked as planned.

The stress tests' outcomes were promising. The Nognes family had spared no effort in building a communication array that could survive Prince Khan's interference. Still, even the best technology in the world had flaws, especially against the chaos element.

Michael was the soldier in charge of the teams stationed around Zoyama's moon. He was a fourth-level warrior, but his status put him closer to noble guards than common specialized troops from a noble family.

Of course, each crew had team leaders who could act on their own, but Michael remained the de facto leader. He had been appointed to the closest structure equipped with a nuke, and the decision to launch it was ultimately his, mostly because the communication array showed a few problems.

As promising as the tests' outcomes had been, Michael only needed to read the data on the control desk to spot a glaring issue. Prince Khan had ordered Mister Bizelli and Gordon to stay away from Zoyama's moon for security reasons, but the communication channels with their location were already open.

However, Nott Station and Coravis didn't have the best equipment yet, and space remained an annoying endeavor. Michael could see how unstable those communication channels were, so Prince Khan's interferences were bound to affect them.

Theoretically, that wasn't a problem. Mister Bizelli had left plenty of instructions for the stationed soldiers, and Michael had the authority to launch an attack.

Yet, the matter involved a Prince and not an ordinary one. Michael didn't want to authorize an attack against him, let alone bear the consequences of killing him.,

Still, the time to worry about those problems was over. A soldier on the bridge shouted, notifying Michael and summoning a holographic screen before him. The leader saw Prince Khan's ship approach and land on the moon, and his figure exited the canopy to step on that grey ground.

It still felt incredible seeing Prince Khan enduring that lack of breathable atmosphere without spacesuits or specific techniques. Michael had heard the stories from the soldiers on Nott Station, but witnessing the event with his own eyes still sparked some primordial marvel.

Humans weren't supposed to survive in space, but Prince Khan was there, walking calmly in an atmosphere that should have suffocated him as if he were inside any other livable environment. His face didn't show any sign of hurry, either, looking perfectly comfortable in places that would almost instantly kill other soldiers.

Sadly, Michael didn't have time to linger in his amazement. Prince Khan's arrival marked the beginning of his mission, intensifying the weight of his responsibilities. Soon, Michael would have to make a tough decision and live the rest of his life with its consequences.

Everything proceeded as planned. Mister Bizelli had described Khan's workout to Michael and the other crew leaders, so they waited, watching the Prince activate the hologram and sit on the moon's grey ground.

Tension inevitably followed, and Michael could almost taste it. All the soldiers inside his bridge held their breath, aware that the time for the difficult decision would arrive soon. They vaguely knew what to expect and recognize, and gasps resounded when a red flag appeared.

The holographic screen flickered when Prince Khan stood up to release a blinding lightning bolt from his mouth. The spell exploded past the moon's almost non-existent atmosphere, creating a cloud of purple-red mana that illuminated the dark expanse.

Prince Khan didn't stop there. He glanced at the holographic symbol and released another spell from his mouth, destroying the device producing it and carving a long, deep gorge through the moon's surface, unleashing untold devastation.

Michael recognized those signs among Mister Bizelli's instructions. While his crew was busy holding their breath, he tried to contact Mister Bizelli, but to no avail. As predicted, Prince Khan's spell had interfered with those more unstable communication channels, leaving Michael in charge of the whole mission.

Messages from the other crew leaders reached Michael's control desk, making it blink to no end. They were all waiting for his decision, and the scanners didn't promise anything good. The holographic screens showed how Prince Khan dispersed the lingering grey cloud, revealing the destruction he had caused, and nothing on his face displayed an ounce of self-control.

"Are the nukes ready?" Michael eventually spoke, breaking the tense silence to intensify that sensation. He had even opened the communication channels with the other structures, but no answers arrived.

It took a few seconds for the first "Yes, sir!" to resound from the control desk, starting a chain reaction. All the intended structures confirmed their readiness to fire at Prince Khan, and Michael waited for his soldiers to give the okay, too, before pressing on a large label and inputting a security code.

The bridge shook for a second, and the crew inevitably held their breath again. A few soldiers even stood up, locking their gazes on bigger holographic screens to inspect the scene. The scanners quickly captured the fired nuke, as well as its following explosion.

"It's a direct impact, sir!" One of the soldiers on the bridge announced, but Michael didn't bother to nod. His eyes remained on the flickering holographic screens shining with blue light. That was the apex of human weaponry, and its effects didn't disappoint.

The scanners eventually adjusted themselves to the blinding scene. Filters arrived to endure the nuke's explosion, providing other methods of investigation. Heat signatures and more appeared on the holographic screen, but little could be confirmed while the detonation raged.

Still, Michael had little doubt. The numbers on the screens were insane. Prince Khan was a unique existence, but the human nukes could obliterate any trace of life. Even Zoyama's moon was struggling to survive it.

The nuke's explosion was bound to rage for a while, but no one on the bridge spoke. Even the open communication channels remained silent. All the crews waited for the mushroom-shaped blinding pillar to disperse and show what was left of the infamous Prince, but their expectations were shattered when a purple-red sphere expanded inside it, devouring that scorching mana.
