Chaos Heir

Chapter 1279: Test

Chapter 1279: Test

Princess Rebecca threw a jokingly wary glance at Liiza before slowly releasing her elbow.

The first time, Liiza had vanished without anyone noticing it. Even Alexander didn’t spot her disappearance until it was too late, but Princess Rebecca hoped that she wouldn’t do it again. Actually, Princess Rebecca bet everything on the fact that Liiza would be too curious to miss that chance.

Liiza’s behavior didn’t immediately agree with her vague acceptance. She glanced at her elbow before briefly studying the path toward the elevator. She could escape, but her glowing eyes eventually returned to Princess Rebecca.

“How was Khan before the Second Impact?” Liiza asked, and a chill ran down her spine when Princess Rebecca smiled. Somehow, Liiza felt as if she had fallen into a trap she should have avoided when she had the chance.

“Shall we sit first, dear Niece?” Princess Rebecca suggested, and Liiza couldn’t help but look at the path toward the elevator again before giving up on escaping altogether.

“Of course, Rebecca,” Liiza said, also smiling but without losing her wariness. She had already exposed some secrets and didn’t want Princess Rebecca to know too much. Otherwise, handling her would become too troublesome.

“It’s a pity you can’t drink,” Princess Rebecca sighed, heading back to her previous couch. “Or can you? I’m not sure how pregnancies work for the Niqols.”

“We have special drinks for pregnant women,” Liiza explained, sitting on her previous couch, ending up face-to-face with Princess Rebecca, “But I don’t want to risk anything. Considering my husband and I, it’s a miracle we conceived a child so soon.”

“My Nephew’s fertility was a known issue,” Princess Rebecca sighed. “I guess everything worked out for the best. I liked the Solodrey girl, but you are far better for Khan, and he would have never left her if she got pregnant.”

The statement put Liiza on the spot. On the one hand, she liked how Khan’s Aunt acknowledged her as the superior partner after so few interactions.

However, Liiza also knew how hurt Khan had been after Monica. He hadn’t played around with her, and his guilt was far from solved.

“Oh, I apologize!” Princess Rebecca suddenly exclaimed. “That wasn’t fair toward either of you. Miss Solodrey was such a fine and dear girl.”

Princess Rebecca drank from the glass she had kept in her hands the whole time, seemingly ready to move past that troublesome topic, but her following words said otherwise.

“But my Nephew did kill himself to make that relationship work,” Princess Rebecca continued. “I do not resent her, but she was helpless and beneath him. Khan needs someone who can be his match and suppress him when necessary.”

Liiza was still trying to play the dutiful and polite wife in front of Khan’s family. Also, politics had always irked her, but she had gained some experience in that field in the past ten years, so she understood what Princess Rebecca’s goal was.

“When my husband first told me about his nightmares,” Liiza announced, “I secretly brought him to a specialist of my species. He was worried our secret relationship would have been at risk, but I forced him to visit her nonetheless.”

Liiza crossed her legs on the couch, dismissing her polite stance before continuing. “When he was so tired he could barely make sense of what I said, I forced him to sleep before he could even hope to get between my legs.”

Princess Rebecca had already heard that point, but the mood was completely different now, and the story hit differently, too.

“That might not sound like much for a species as warm as yours,” Liiza explained, “But the Niqols somatize feelings, and our love was so intense I’d shake every time I couldn’t hold him.”

Princess Rebecca wasn’t savvy in alien anatomy, but Liiza’s tone conveyed how serious the matter had been. The faint chill in the air also added value to her explanation, making the Princess unable to take it lightly.

“During our honeymoon,” Liiza continued, “I’m the one who stopped him from resorting to slaughter to protect us.”

Liiza lowered her gaze, inspecting the tattoos on her left hand before resuming. “Don’t misunderstand me. I would have killed any real threat myself if it came down to that. I just didn’t want Khan to compromise himself even more.”

Princess Rebecca saw white light filling her vision again while firm, cold words reached her ears. “I swore upon my mother’s memory that I would have fixed him, and my oath hasn’t changed.”

“I am proud that I’ve been the one to marry my husband,” Liiza declared, “And that I carry his child. But I’m also grateful he had Monica in his life. If he hadn’t loved her so much, he would have never been desperate enough to kidnap me.”

Liiza caressed her waist, adding her last point. “And before you ask, I’m not beneath jealousy, but that’s for my husband and me to deal with, hopefully on a bed that can bear us.”

Liiza could add far more details, but Princess Rebecca’s mana told her that her point had gotten through.

“So, Rebecca,” Liiza called, “Are you done testing me? I want a good relationship with my husband’s family, but let me be clear. I don’t need it.”

Liiza ran her eyes over the living room, addressing the sea station and the planet as a whole. “I don’t need any of this. I only need Khan.”

That had sounded like a threat, and the cold air that pervaded the living room reinforced that vibe, but Princess Rebecca wasn’t scared. A satisfied smile broadened on her face, and she even nodded to add value to her approval.

“Marvelous,” Princess Rebecca praised. “I hope you’ll understand me. My Nephew is one of the most sought-after men in the universe. I had to make sure you were exactly how I hoped.”

“About that,” Liiza commented, “When is the announcement going out? I wish the universe would learn that I married Khan as soon as possible.”

“My Brother is probably issuing that announcement as we speak,” Princess Rebecca reassured. “However, Niece, you should be wary about people like me.”

Liiza arched her eyebrows, unsure of what Princess Rebecca was referring to.

“It only took me a few statements to distract you from the main topic,” Princess Rebecca explained. “You told me everything I needed to know. I might decide to use my knowledge of how Khan was before the Second Impact to get something else now.”
