128 Meeting A Variant
What came out of the back of the tall earth mound that made Blake stare frozen in place was none other than a huge ball of fire.
Yes, it was a walking, standing, ball of fire.
No matter how hard Blake tried to squint his eyes to observe the creature in more detail, he couldn’t see anything other than a man-sized, walking ball of fire.
Before Blake was able to utter a single word to express his confusion, Vera beat him to it first.
“Oh, congratulations on meeting your first ever variant type demon, Blake.”
A variant type demon was a demon that couldn’t be categorized into either demonic beasts or humanoid demons, they were simply called a variant type demon since they all came in different types, sizes, and abilities.
Blake wondered how unique they would have to be in order for people to recognize them to be a variant from just looking at them.
But now that he had actually seen one with his own eyes, Blake understood clearly when Vera said that there would be no way for him to not recognize a variant type demon if he met one.
How could he? The first one that he met was literally a man-sized walking fireball!
.....
Seeing the variant type demon, several emotions came up in his heart. Curiosity, wonder, and also excitement, all popped up in his heart when he saw the walking fireball come out from the back of the tall earth mound.
Blake’s eyes lingered on the variant type demon before he looked back at Vera.
“Vera, can I try to fight it?”
He wondered how it feels to fight a variant type demon. And considering that he would be traveling on the main continent now where there would be more variant type demons scattered around, Blake thought that he could give himself an orientation to know the variant type demons better.
And of course, Blake also wondered whether a variant type demon would have a better-tasting soul compared to the other souls that he had eaten so far.
Fighting an unknown variant type demon, which means a variant demon that you barely knew anything about was certainly not a recommended practice, especially in the deeper realms where the nether was denser and led to more variant type demons having incredible powers that could possibly endanger even the strongest humanoid demons or demonic beasts.
But in the first demon realm, where Vera could still follow everything that was happening on the battlefield, and judge whether something was dangerous or not, Vera decided to give Blake a green light and let him try and fight the variant type demon.
She also wanted Blake to experience for himself how it feels to fight different kinds of demons now that he was on the main continent.
Having a real-life experience, an experience similar to how other demons went through would only benefit him if he wanted to survive in the demon realm, a place that was evidently different from the world that he had come from.
“But remember to back away if I tell you to do it, that is a must.” She sternly told Blake after giving him her approval.
“Of course, Vera. Don’t worry, I won’t be throwing my life away here when we just arrived on the main continent.” Blake replied before walking over to his gorilla friend.
“Robus, a little hand getting me there please?”
“r.”
Blake then ran his nether through his wings and made himself lighter before positioning his back to face his normal-sized gorilla friend that was still using the necklace to suppress his real size.
But despite the necklace doing a good job of limiting Robus’ size and muscle mass, his herculean strength didn’t simply come from the huge masses of muscles that he had.
Just like how Blake had a spirit stat, Robus’ status points were the exact opposite of Blake, and his physique stat was way higher than his spirit stat, saturating his physique with nether and strengthening them.
And that’s why despite his body size that was now only as tall as Blake and his strength wasn’t at his peak due to the loss of muscle mass, Robus was still able to easily grab his humanoid demon friend with his two hands before throwing him straight to the shore as if throwing a rock boulder from over his head.
With Blake’s body being lightened by his wings and with Robus’ strength, Blake soon found himself flying through the air, passing the shallow waters and arriving at the shore of the main continent, tens of meters away from the walking fireball that just stood there and observed his supposed ‘enemy’ doing their antics.
Upon arriving, or rather, crashing onto the shore, Blake opened up his smaller wings and used them to help himself adjust the position of his body, and he successfully landed on the shore with his legs stabbing deep into the sandy ground.
Watching all this, the variant-type demon hadn’t launched a single attack yet and just observed Blake being thrown to the air before digging his own foot to the ground as if it was an amusing sight.
Blake was ready to receive more attacks from the man-sized fireball even before he was thrown by Robus from the ship.
Considering that the fellow really did throw 11 fireballs toward him earlier couldn’t be more of a clear sign that the fellow won’t hesitate to give him more attacks.
But surprisingly, the man-sized fireball didn’t even throw a single fireball toward him even after his feet were half-buried in the sand, it just stood there and stared at him?
Or at least it looked as if it was staring in Blake’s direction despite Blake noticing the lack of any facial or even any physical features on the man-sized fireball’s body.
Blake quickly got his feet out of the sand and prepared himself for Battle.
And just in case, Blake also checked,
“Hello? Can you speak or understand me?”
But seeing that there was not a single response, Blake assumed that the answer was no and he then continued what he was about to do.
And that was to cast a simple darkness-binding spell toward the seemingly passive man-sized fireball.
But Blake certainly didn’t expect that the moment he started drawing his runes, the man-sized fireball that just stared at him and did nothing all this time suddenly, flared up, releasing scorching heat to its surroundings, evident from the fact that even Blake could feel a warm feeling despite being tens of meters away from it.
‘Is this an oh shit moment...?’ Blake thought to himself as he shook his head and readied himself for a possible hard fight.
