138 Learning More About the Humanoid Demons (1)

After arriving at the edge of the forest where he could see the humanoid demons’ base and the hundreds of demihumans living inside it, unlike Vera, who was unaffected by the wooden walls and the black rock tower, Blake did feel some type of pressure from the tall towers that looked ominous with the materials they were built with.

Of course, Blake didn’t know that the materials that were used to create the towers weren’t something that could be acquired from the areas around him and he also didn’t think about how the humanoid demons managed the transportation and logistics of moving those black rocks.

What made him conscious of the towers were their literal towering heights and the ominous look that the black and jagged rocks that made the body of the whole tower gave.

He didn’t have any plans to charge onto the humanoid demons’ base with confidence from the start as he knew how foolish it would be, but when seeing the tall towers and the wooden walls that were about Robus’ height, Blake’s resolve to avoid direct confrontation with the humanoid demon’s began even firmer than before.

Despite Blake being thrown into a quite desperate situation where he wanted to gather as many souls as possible, Blake still had most parts of his mind working, and going in blindly to storm the humanoid demon’s base could only be called as suicide in his mind.

He still remembered clearly how he had fared against a mere 25 humanoid demons without a formidable-looking base, and they were even on his home turf.

He fared terribly and ended up getting into a cat and mouse situation where he was the mouse and the humanoid demons were the cats.

And although he could still kill 6 humanoid demons that chased after him, it was only possible because they were underestimating him and they came at him in small numbers at a time.

If all of them had come at him together since the very first move, then Blake would be able to do nothing other than running away with his tail tucked between his legs.

.....

And now that he was faced with hundreds of humanoid demons on their home turf, Blake would not throw his life away and tried to think of a way where he could gather souls slowly, but steadily from the hundreds of humanoid demons available in front of him.

Of course, one of the requirements that would enable him to do that was to avoid fighting against the masses of humanoid demons.

He would need to deal with small groups of them at a time so that he would be able to do it.

And in order to do that, Blake would need to understand his targets better.

This means that he needed to learn more about the humanoid demons first before formulating any plans.

So that’s what he decided to do right away.

But first, he needed to do something first.

“Robus, you can stay in the forest while I think of a way for us to get souls safely.”

“You could hunt anything inside the forest while you wait for me to return.”

“r.” (Okay.)

“And remember, if you find any humanoid demons going in the forest, if you want to eat their souls, make sure that you do it quick enough that none of them could react to your attacks.”

“If you found many humanoid demons, even if you are confident in defeating them all, just avoid them first as we could never know what they were capable of doing.”

“If they somehow had rune formations that could be used to call for backup, then we would have no choice but to run away from here as far away as possible.”

“r?” (Why?)

“Well, you don’t want to have hundreds of them going hot on your tails right?”

“Rr?” (But I don’t have any tails?)

“...”

“Just remember what I told you and avoid a large group of humanoid demons until I return, okay?”

Scratching his head in slight confusion, Robus finally gave Blake a nod and a short answer, “r.”

Seeing that his pal had understood him, Blake could now roam around the area more freely.

His huge gorilla best friend was definitely a one of a kind best friend that he literally trusted with his life as the both of them had literally done that when they hunted together back on the island.

And he also believes that he couldn’t get this many souls in the amount of time that he had after arriving in the demon realm if not for his best friend helping him and being his best supporter.

However, in cases like scouting, carefully observing, and studying his enemies, Robus wasn’t the best at those kinds of things, and his huge build was also not suited for him to be able to do that.

Even a step that he took could cause a loud noise that would be heard by demons that had sensitive hearing.

Hence why he needed to make sure that Robus stayed hidden in the forest to keep both himself and also the huge gorilla safe.

Unlike Vera who could simply use her wings to observe the whole situation of the humanoid demon’s base, Blake didn’t have that luxury, yet, as his wings were still not fully developed.

He would be able to use them, but not now.

So with his current circumstances, Blake needed to go on foot and slowly walked on the edge of the forest to carefully observe and learn about the activities and routines of the humanoid demons, trying his best to find chances and opportunities that he could use to grab a few souls or several more without being noticed.

15 minutes into his investigation, Blake hadn’t found anything noteworthy yet. But that was only until he found a group of humanoid demons on the outskirts of the forest.

Unlike the other humanoid demons that made boats or the ones that were simply walking around the wooden walls while some of them carried demon beasts on their shoulders, these humanoid demons he found were not idle either.

But instead of building boats or hunting for food, they were simply chopping wood, a very mundane task that he had never thought a demon would do.

The chopping wood part wasn’t the shocking fact for him that caught his whole attention.

But rather, what he saw when the humanoid demons interacted with each other was the thing that made Blake stop completely on his food to stare at the event that was happening in front of him.

One humanoid demon, with a bulky and strong-looking body, was standing behind a group of other humanoid demons with a whip in its hand.

The humanoid demons that were holding bone and stone axes in their hands looked different from the bulky and strong-looking humanoid demon.

If Blake wanted to describe them with a term that he understood, Blake would say that they looked malnourished and scrawny.

But those facts alone wouldn’t be able to get him to care too much about them.

It is when the scrawny and malnourished-looking humanoid demons started swinging their axes slower and the bulky humanoid demon would send its whip towards them to make them get back to work that made Blake decide to give the event his full care and attention.

Blake didn’t have any problems in killing the humanoid demons as he had done it himself.

He didn’t even have any problems killing the humanoid demons in the most painful way possible that he could do. He even wanted to do it more as he knew for a fact that he would get sweet and savory-tasting souls if he instilled fear in the humanoid demons’ hearts before they died.

But call him a hypocrite as he didn’t like what he saw when the bulky humanoid demons whipped the scrawny humanoid demons and forced them to work by physically instilling pain onto them.

Something with the sight of seeing the scrawny-looking humanoid demons unable to do anything and was just forced to take the beating while following the stronger humanoid demon’s order had ticked him off.

And it didn’t take him longer than a full second to understand his own feelings and find what had caused him to be so pissed off.

Seeing the powerless scrawny and weak-looking demons just lay there accepting anything being thrown at them and not fighting back at all had made him look at a mirror that reflected his past self.

Looking at how weak and pathetic those scrawny demons looked, Blake couldn’t help but imagine in his head that he had also looked like that all this time back when he was still in the human world.

Even with his body already down on the ground, more pain was inflicted on him, and he could do nothing as he knew that fighting back would only make the pain worse.

He knew that the scrawny demons were pathetic and weak creatures that were disgusting to look at. However, he could also say the same about his past self.

Even deep down in his heart, in his feelings that had all been buried down after he arrived at the demon realm and started getting strength at a rapid rate, Blake could feel an understanding and empathy with the scrawny-looking demons.
