158 Their Plans (1)
‘Demon Contract?’
Blake’s eyes scanned the whole unfurled paper from top to bottom.
It was his first time seeing something like it and he wanted to get a better look at it.
“Read the conditions first and write your name on the bottom of the list, next to mine, then we’re all set here.” The flying humanoid demon’s voice resounded once again as Blake started reading the demon contract starting from the top.
At first, Blake started reading the demon contract with pure curiosity and caution as he was ready to find many loopholes in the contract that came from a demon.
However, when he started going down the list of words, his cautiousness began to fade away as he realized that he didn’t need to find any loopholes at all.
The conditions that were written in the demon contract were all filled purely with malicious intents and straight-up slavery that wasn’t even hidden in flowery words.
‘Side B, the contractee will have to obey every order that Side A, the contractor gives, to the extent that Side B will have to offer their life if Side A demands it.’
‘Side A will have the authority to impart a command that goes against Side B’s will. Extensive resistance from Side B will result in Side B’s death.’
.....
‘Side A will be able to delegate the rights of condition that Side B agreed in this contract to other personnel with Side A’s agreement.’
Those three conditions were literally the first sentences that Blake’s eyes read when he saw the demon contract.
And the list goes on talking about how he wouldn’t be able to betray the flying humanoid demon, he wouldn’t be able to say any contradicting words unless he was given permission and even more conditions that literally would make Blake the flying humanoid demon’s property.
‘Who is stupid enough to accept this kind of contract offer?’
Blake then remembered all the native humanoid demons that even had trouble speaking and how it was possible to intimidate and scare them by giving them pain.
‘I see... Now I understand a little bit more about those boat-building and wood-chopping humanoid demons...’
‘They’re probably stuck doing those things instead of hunting and gathering souls for themselves as they would die if they were to try and reject the command given to them.’
‘But still, I can’t believe this kind of contract would work on more intelligent creatures unless they feared death very much. Not a few people chose to die rather than being someone’s slave.’ Blake thought to himself as he read the bottom side of the page.
‘This is a soul contract. When you put your name here, the souls of the contractor and the contractee will be bound to each other and the conditions agreed would be enforced by the universe.’
Then after the last condition had been said, two boxes were present at the very bottom. One box was filled with incomprehensible words while the other box was empty, seemingly to be the place where Blake should put his name on.
“So, what do you think? Will you accept this offer now while the condition is still better or will you drag this out even more and will accept the contract with worse conditions later?”
‘Curse you! In what way there would be even worse conditions than the ones written here.’ Was what Blake thought inwards, but he didn’t say it out loud.
“I still need time to read and understand the whole contract. I’m not as smart as you.” Was what Blake said outwards, but not inwards.
Seemingly understanding Blake’s reasoning, the flying humanoid demon only nodded his head thinking, ‘Take as much time as you like, the more time you take the sooner you will have to accept it unless you want to die.’
While Blake himself was buying time to carefully draw rune formations with his feet to ensure his safety later, the flying humanoid demon himself was also buying time for the humanoid demon hunters to arrive and help him secure the annoying humanoid demon from casting the annoying spell again.
Just when the flying humanoid demon said he wanted to talk with Blake, he had already used one of the conditions that he had in the contract with the other humanoid demons to call them and go in his direction, basically becoming a beacon that called the dozens of humanoid demons that had been tasked to take out the unknown threat in the forest.
It was their original intention, to take out the threat that suddenly appeared in the forest and killed a lot of their hunters.
Several of the same cases had happened when a strong demonic beast came from somewhere and did the same thing.
The humanoid demon’s base didn’t know about Robus and Blake at all. All they knew was that there was someone in the forest taking out and killing a large number of the humanoid demon hunters for the past few days.
However, when the horn was blown, it was a signal that a great threat was identified, hence why the lord of the area, the flying humanoid demon, came out of the base to check the situation for himself.
If there were really a really dangerous threat, then the humanoid demon hunters at his place wouldn’t be able to handle it as the hunters that were kept in the base were the weaker ones that weren’t eligible to be sent out on the frontier or the expedition missions.
And losing more potential humanoid demon hunters would only be bad for him and his organization as the goal that they want to achieve required them to have as many evolved humanoid demons from the first realm as possible.
So when he finally went out and found Robus and Blake, he was set to take them out immediately or ask the duo to join them. And after the short exchange he had with the duo, the flying humanoid demon was set to do the latter after seeing Blake’s strength.
Either the jet-black humanoid demon that was somehow smarter than the natives and able to use spells would accept the contract now, or as usual, he would force the humanoid demon to accept it.
And with the other humanoid demons around, he would ensure the jet-black humanoid demon wouldn’t be able to do anything funny anymore.
