As the spar between Kayden and Kael continued, Lavinia, who saw Morvain and the other Elders appear, walked towards them, and because the Princess stuck out like a sore thumb, the crowd automatically made a way for her.
When Morvain noticed Lavinia, she made a space for her. The two nodded at each other, and the moment Lavinia got there, she bowed her head apologetically.
“I apologize, Matriarch. I should have stopped the two of them.”
She spoke lightly.
“You couldn’t have done anything. I should be the one apologizing. I should have known Kayden would have done something like this.”
The Matriarch answered; the rest of the Elders nodded as well. It was indeed short-sighted.
“No.”
Lavinia, however, shook her head.
“I should have stopped them regardless. You didn’t even have the chance to explain to the people about who Kael is. For them, he is just a random merchant or a merchant’s guard who came here.
I can see how difficult it would be to contain later. It would cause too much chaos and mistrust.”
The Princess could already picture it in her head.
“Worry not. As you said, it hasn’t even been three months since the Hero came to this world, he would obviously need time to adjust. Not to mention he came from a world where battles like these were uncommon.
Kayden, on the other hand, has always been hailed as a genius when it came to one-on-one duels, so even if the Hero loses, we can say that he just needs more time.
Plus, I doubt the Hero would go down without a fight. I am sure people will be able to see his potential.”
The Matriarch nodded reassuringly. Lavinia, however, just blinked at those words, slightly taken aback.
Then, she slowly turned towards the Matriarch and tilted her head in confusion,
“You people… do not think that Kayden can actually win, do you?”
“Huh…?”
The Matriarch blinked in surprise. Not just her, the rest of the Elders seemed surprised as well.
“You think Kayden will lose…?”
Korvath called out.
“He is up against the Hero.”
Lavinia answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
These people hadn’t seen it, but she was different. She had seen Kael fight with her own eyes. She knew what sort of monstrosity he was.
So unless Kayden was a Demi-Human, it was almost impossible for him to win against Kael.
“Well, the Hero is up against Kayden.”
Korvath changed the sentence. He was confident as well, and it just made Lavinia smile. A smile that Korvath did not appreciate one bit.
For now, however, the Commander of the Watch decided to remain silent. The result would be out soon anyways; there was no point wasting breath in front of the ignorant.
The Matriarch, on the other hand, stared at Lavinia and,
“If you thought Kael would win, then why did you say it would cause chaos and mistrust?”
She questioned.
“The Heir to Ashen Heights lost a one-on-one duel against someone who appeared out of nowhere—would that not cause any difficulties for you?
Even if you reveal Kael is a Hero later, the damage would already be done by then. People’s minds get swayed easily, and once they form an opinion, it is difficult to change it.”
Lavinia answered, and Morvain just nodded with an expressionless look on her face.
“So you are that confident, huh?”
“If you saw Kael fight before, you would have been the same.”
Again, Lavinia remained confident.
Korvath, however, just snorted,
“And if you saw Kayden fight before, you wouldn’t have been the same.”
Once again, Lavinia just smiled at the commander’s words and continued to observe the battle in front of her.
“W-What sort of Magic is that!? I do not see any circles!?”
Kayden shouted in disbelief as Kael teleported away from him.
Kael, on the other hand, just smiled.
Ever since he got here and people heard the news about the Young Patriarch sparring against a foreigner, they all gathered here, eager to watch the foreigner be defeated.
Imperia told him different conversations between people, all firmly believing in his loss, and Kael did not blame them.
After all, in their eyes, he was just an unknown foreigner. His thoughts, however, changed when Imperia told him about the conversation between the Matriarch and her Elders.
That was when he realized it.
These people had next to no trust in him.
None of them even considered the possibility of him being able to defeat Kayden. The only reason they even accepted his identity as the Hero was because he revealed Igni.
Which, of course, made sense from their perspective, but Kael still did not like this feeling.
Therefore, he decided to use Kayden. Since people had so much faith in him, he decided to crush that faith through and through.
And at the same time, he would test out all his skills in the process, starting with—
[Genesis Step]
Kael glanced at the Skill he received after reaching Level 40,
[Skill: Genesis Step]
[Description:]
[Allows the Host to blink short distances mid-battle, moving as if space bent around him.]
[Effect:]
[Grants Kael the ability to teleport up to 5 meters in any direction with no casting time.]
[Can be used up to 3 times per activation.]
[Duration: Up to 10 seconds or 3 teleports]
[Cooldown: 120 seconds]
…
Yes, a short-distance teleportation skill.
It was a skill that instantly attracted Kael’s attention. After all, he could already see how absurdly powerful it was.
He had even started training specifically for this skill, constantly teleporting to different locations and adjusting to the new surroundings faster than his opponents.
It was a skill that gave him all the initiative that he needed.
Just like right now,
“You won’t get away this time!! Aaaaaggghhh!!!”
Kayden, frustrated by Kael’s movement, rushed forward, but once again, Kael simply teleported away, regaining complete control over the battlefield.
“Stop running away and face me!!”
Kayden shouted as he glared at Kael, and Kael laughed,
“Try again, I promise I won’t run away this time.”
