Kael appeared next to the fallen Kayden, crouched, and brought his face right in front of the surprised Kayden.
Kayden, who saw that, was momentarily taken aback.

Kayden, who was looking into his eyes with a confused look on his face, felt his spine stiffen, then it shook violently. His arms, resting on the ground, collapsed as strength drained from his body. His hands clenched the dirt, but even that grip trembled like a leaf in a storm.
His heart skipped a beat—then another.
It pounded wildly, out of control, like it wanted to escape his chest. His breath caught in his throat. He tried to inhale, but all he managed was a shallow, choked gasp.
His ears rang.
His vision darkened around the edges.
The world around him felt… distant—almost as if someone had removed all the sound from it.
He couldn’t hear anything, but the fear, the dread… it screamed within him louder than the silence.
His skin had turned cold, his eyes—wide, bloodshot—reflected only terror. Not of death, but of something greater than death.
Kael’s distorted face etched itself into his mind permanently.
In that moment, Kayden forgot who he was.
He forgot that he was a noble.
He forgot that he was a warrior.
All he felt was… a raw, primordial fear.
His body trembled uncontrollably, his lips quivered.
It… it was suffocating.

He felt a slight pain on his forehead, instantly waking him up from all the self-consuming thoughts and suddenly, his eyes fell on Kael who was grinning at him.
“Let’s go, battle’s over.
Stop acting like a bitch.”
He laughed as he extended his hand, helping him stand.

Kayden stared at Kael’s hand, the expression on his pale face made it clear that he had no idea what was happening.
It wasn’t just him, the entire area was silent.
Not a single being said anything, they all just stared at the sight of Kael offering Kayden his hand in order to stand up with shocked looks on their faces.

He lost.
Not just that, he lost overwhelmingly.
And that roar just now, it got a reaction out of every single being present here even when it wasn’t targeting them, some had even brought out their Bonds, as if prepared for a battle.

Suddenly, Kael complained, and in front of the shocked crowd, Kayden finally came out of his reverie and grabbed Kael’s hand as he stood up.

He simply accepted his words with his head low. The Young Patriarch acted like a subordinate and the worst part?
None of the people seeing this found it out of bounds. No, more accurately, none of them even realized what was happening.
All of them were still stuck on what happened before.
“W-What just happened?”
After about a minute-long silence, one of the spectators questioned.
“I… I don’t know…”
Another answered.
“The Young Patriarch… lost.”
“Who is that monster…?”
“This is the first time I have seen him.”
“Doesn’t he look younger than the Young Patriarch…?”
“Don’t be foolish, you think that monster is younger than the Young Patriarch? That makes no sense.”
The crowd couldn’t believe it.

Morvain stared at the situation in silence. For an instant, her eyes fell on Lavinia, whose eyes never left Kael from the start till the finish.

He was a ridiculously strong monster, Kayden never stood a chance from the very beginning.

Such thoughts popped up in people’s minds. They knew their Matriarch wasn’t like that. She had always been fair, but this was the first time Kayden had lost a battle everyone expected him to win. None of them knew how the Matriarch would react to it.

“I expected nothing less from the Dragon Rider.”
Morvain spoke, her words instantly attracting every being’s attention.
“W-What…?”
“Did she just say… Dragon Rider?”
“That man…? He is a Dragon Rider?”
More questions were asked. Morvain inwardly smiled at the crowd’s reaction, her eyes however, remained on Kael as her smile widened,
“You made quite a big ruckus before I could even introduce you to my people, eh?”
“I apologize if my actions were out of bounds, Matriarch.”
Kael bowed respectfully.
“No, I can already tell what must have happened.”
Morvain answered as she glared at Kayden. Her gaze made the Young Patriarch shiver. Morvain, however, just shook her head and focused on what was important.
“Anyways, it is a good thing it happened. I can now use the crowd you gathered to introduce the newest member of Ashen Heights.”
She declared with a big smile on her face as she finally turned towards the crowd.
