Chapter 331: YOU ARE LYING!!
“Are you ready to learn?”
“Yes, I am.”
Kael answered as he looked into Reynara’s eyes and—
“I am ready to learn a lot more today.”
“That is good.”
Reynara nodded with a gentle smile as she welcomed Kael in. Kael followed; the two arrived at the garden where Reynara usually held her lectures.
“How is the Mindf—”
Before Reynara could ask a question,
“Lady Reynara, who created this world?”
Kael asked, interrupting her mid-sentence.
“Hmm?”
Reynara was momentarily taken aback,
“That is a difficult question to answer.”
She commented.
“Why is that?”
Kael questioned again.
“Well, the world was just… there when I came into existence.”
Reynara answered.
“Aren’t you the strongest being here?”
“Sure, people do say that.”
“Didn’t you ever try to find out about it?”
Kael asked, and Reynara simply tilted her head with a slight frown on her face,
“Why would I do that?”
She questioned back.
“Were you never curious about this world?”
“Why would I?”
Reynara did not understand.
“Is being curious about something bad?”
“No, curiosity is a good emotion.”
“Then why were you never curious?”
Kael did not let go.
“Did no one else in the entirety of Everveil try questioning this world?”
He questioned, and this time, Reynara turned silent. There was a slight frown on her face as if she was thinking about Kael’s words.
Knowing that it was working, Kael continued,
“Why has no one in all of Everveil ever gotten curious?”
Again, Reynara could not answer, and suddenly…
“Or was it…
That no one could ever be curious.”
He dropped the bomb.
“Hmm?”
Reynara stared at Kael, confused.
What did he mean by that?
And Kael didn’t hesitate to explain his thoughts.
“Did Everveil take away their ability to think critically and question anything around them?”
He questioned.
“What? Of course not—”
Reynara tried to defend, but—
“Is Everveil a prison?”
Kael questioned, his words instantly changing Reynara’s tone.
“Kael, mind your words.”
She spoke sternly, but Kael did not give in.
“Why should I?”
He questioned back.
“These words are something you should have considered a long time ago, no? How is Everveil any different than a prison?”
He raised his voice as he asked this question.
“Everveil is a perfect world!”
Reynara shot back, raising her voice as well. This was the first time Kael had gotten such a reaction out of her, and he saw it as progress.
Therefore, he continued,
“A perfect world where sadness does not exist—this is what you said to me when I first came here, yes?”
“Yes! Everveil is a perfect world! A world where only happiness exists!”
Reynara nodded, repeating her sentence.
“Aren’t happiness and sadness related?”
Suddenly, Kael asked a question, making Reynara frown.
“If sadness does not exist, is happiness even meaningful? What is there to be happy about? There is no growth, no ‘sunlight before endless storm,’ then why is everyone happy?”
“Does there have to be a reason to be happy?”
Reynara questioned back, and Kael—
“Yes.”
He nodded directly.
“Aren’t you happy every time you are with Vitaria?”
“Yes, that’s the reason for my happiness. I am with Vitaria.”
“And the reason people in Everveil here are happy is because they are always with people around them. They have the same connection between them as you have with Vitaria.”
Reynara answered, but Kael once again shook his head.
“I am happy when I am with Vitaria because I was alone before.”
Reynara narrowed her eyes.
“I felt lonely. I was ‘sad’. Vita’s presence takes that ‘sadness’ away; that is the reason I become happy.”
Kael explained.
“However, the people here are different. They all came into existence together, just like you did, didn’t they? They never felt loneliness or sadness because Everveil never allowed them to, so how could they truly be happy?”
Again, Reynara turned silent. She tried to think and come up with a counter, but it felt like Kael wasn’t even listening to her.
“The Kitsune children here came into existence at the same time as the older Kitsunes, correct?”
Suddenly, Kael asked another question.
“T-That is correct.”
Reynara nodded carefully.
“If they were born at the same time as their parents, why are they even called children?”
“…”
“Children are children because of their untainted innocence and the delight they bring to the world, but isn’t everyone in Everveil essentially the same?
Why are children even treated differently here when they are of the same age as other adults?”
Kael looked into Reynara’s eyes and—
“How old is everyone here in Everveil?”
He questioned.
“…The concept of age does not exist here.”
Reynara answered. This time, her voice was lower than before.
“So you people do not even know how long you have existed for?”
“…”
Reynara couldn’t say anything.
“Lady Reynara, how do you not see it?”
Kael asked, making Reynara glance at him. Seeing the look on her face pained him, but for some reason, he felt like he had to do it.
“I have been in this world for a month, and what I saw here on the first day and today was exactly the same.
The same children playing the same games, the same adults relaxing at the same place, the same storyteller telling the same story to the same group of Kitsunes, for possibly hundreds of years.
Everything is the same.
It is like, instead of a world where every being had a free will to do whatever they wanted, this is a place where every being is assigned a specific role and cannot think or do anything beyond that.
There is no free will here.
There is no freedom of choice because ‘No’ does not exist here.
This isn’t a ‘perfect world’; it is a ‘still picture’.
This place…
It is an illusion.”
Kael declared, and the moment he said those words, Reynara’s expression changed.
“…No.”
She spoke lightly, so much that Kael couldn’t even hear her.
“Wha—”
He tried to question, but—
“NO!”
Reynara snapped, her beautiful purple eyes glared at Kael,
“You are wrong!
Everveil is not an illusion! It is a perfect world! A world with only happiness!”
“Happiness cannot exist without sad—”
“No! You simply do not understand the concept of this—”
“It is not me! It is you who does not understand it!
This world does not exist!
You do not exist!
Everyone you see here, everyone you claim to love,
Does not exist!”
“YOU ARE LYING!!”
Reynara screamed, red tears came out of her purple eyes as suddenly,
CRACK
The beautiful Everveil sky cracked.
