The Yin within this region was far too strong for Whisker.
Within moments of being pushed there, he could already feel the biting cold that came off it. If it wasn’t a terrible situation, Whisker may have taken a moment to wonder.
The Yin almost immediately invaded his body, freezing him entirely before even his mind was taken away. His body grew rigid, all of his meridians shrinking up instantly. Even the Qi flowing through his body seemed to freeze all of a sudden.
The pressure alone might have been enough to make Whisker fail to do anything here. It being Yin was just a nail in the coffin.
His mind went next, his consciousness slowly being stripped away. Having completely taken over his body, the Yin took over his mind as well, slowly freezing it away as he was put into a slumber outside of his volition.
As the coldness took in Whisker, the only regret he had was that he did not kill himself immediately.
Frozen and unconscious, Whisker lay there in the heavy sludge, alongside thousands of other beasts that had died in a similar way throughout the eons where this region of Hell had existed.
Not all beasts ended up with this fate the same way Whisker did. Some were greedy enough to want more, but some were just unlucky.
Some were wounded and ended up sinking further than they had intended to. Some lost track of time and left too late at the end of the day when the Yin was drawn in. Some were early and were attacked by the other beasts that were already down here.
However it happened, though, they all reached the same fate. And now, Whisker was another one to share that fate.
But not for long.
Whisker’s mind returned to him first. His consciousness slowly faded in, followed by his senses.
He felt… warm.
He was still cold, but it was definitely much warmer than he had been before.
‘What happened?’ Whisker thought with a slow mind. He was still trying to remember the last thing that had happened.
He quickly remembered that he had been frozen here by Yin and immediately attempted to escape. His body barely moved at all. The heat hadn’t been able to give him control of his body back.
It took a moment for that to happen. When it did, the first thing Whisker did was expel the sludge that had flowed in through his mouth. Then, when he got control of his body back, he immediately waded through the thick sludge, trying to go back up.
However, just a few seconds in, Whisker bumped into something. His Spiritual sense had still not fully been released, so he hadn’t seen the thing he had bumped into.
Whatever it was, though, it was warm.
Whisker slowly released his Spiritual sense. While the Yin in the sludge hadn’t lowered in amount just yet, its effect was being countered by this weird heat he had encountered.
As Whisker checked what the source of the heat was, he came across a giant wall before him. He slowly reached for the wall, the warmth helping his body be more active.
The wall was directly flat on top of him in that moment, so Whisker had to climb along the bottom of its body, trying to find a way up. As he scaled the bottom of the wall, Whisker arrived at a location to the side where he saw a way up.
However, there wasn’t just a way up, but also something else. Something large bulging out the side of the thing he thought was a wall.
Looking at the thing, Whisker realized what it was.
A leg.
The thing he had thought was a wall was nothing but just the underbelly of a giant beast.
The revelation was surprising for Whisker, but it also made sense. Only beasts would be here aside from a random amount of sludge. But, how was the beast surviving in this region?
In fact, how was it so warm?
Whisker was sure he had come so far down that even beasts with Sunhearts wouldn’t dare come here. After all, it got much colder at night when the Yin was dragged in, so even with all the Yang their Sunhearts drew, they would still be forced to stay further up.
But this beast had managed to come all the way down there.
‘How is it doing this?’ Whisker thought. ‘How is it so warm?’
That was something that didn’t make sense to Whisker. The amount of Yang in this place was so very low that no Sunheart could draw in this much warmth. It was pretty much impossible.
So the fact that the beast before him was so warm made no sense to him at all. In fact, now that he was sensing it, he could sense no movement of Yang in the area at all.
Whisker climbed the beast all the way to the top, and in doing so realized that it was a large tortoise within the sludge, staying only with its head in its shell.
Whisker walked on top of its shell, continuing to wonder about the situation. Had the beast just been warm because it came from the above ground where it had been in the sun all day? Was it going to get colder now?
It didn’t appear to be so.
Then… was the beast creating its own warmth? Perhaps with its Sunheart?
Whisker wanted to learn more, but for now, he had to leave this place. However, as he moved away from the tortoise, he quickly realized that the region he was in was still full of Yin aura that would certainly freeze him away.
As soon as he sensed that with his Spiritual sense, Whisker stopped immediately and returned to the tortoise’s back.
He couldn’t be sure that the tortoise would keep its warmth throughout the night, but he could only hope it did.
Meanwhile, he could maybe try and find some answers regarding why the tortoise was so warm at the moment.
