“Mr. Du Wei, what do you mean by ‘the other door’ in the oil painting you mentioned?”

On the phone, Mrs. Senna’s tone was very serious.

Du Wei calmly said, “I was affected by a curse before, you should know that, right?”

Mrs. Senna replied, “I know a bit about the situation, but not the specifics.”

Du Wei hummed and said, “I later discovered that my curse actually stemmed from some special antiques. These antiques imprisoned the curse’s medium, and of course, there aren’t many such things. Among them is an oil painting named ‘The Other Door,’ which happens to be in the museum in Scolyn City.”

“This season in Scolyn is the peak time for the tourism industry.”

Mrs. Senna questioned, “So, you suspect that the ‘other door’ Hoddy referred to is that painting? Why didn’t you say so earlier? And a curse… that’s too dangerous. Do you understand that it’s your negligence?”

Du Wei replied coldly, “I only found out about it recently, and that painting has changed hands many times. If it were going to cause trouble, it would have done so already. Moreover, being a receptacle for the curse’s medium, it’s safer in a museum than anywhere else.”

Mrs. Senna said dissatisfiedly, “But now it has become a problem.”

Du Wei calmly said, “To be precise, it had already become problematic before we knew about it, because Hoddy appeared before I joined the church.”

“Of course, what I can be sure of is that the curse should not have spread, otherwise the situation would have become much more serious by now.”

Mrs. Senna fell silent.

After a while, she said through gritted teeth, “So what do you want to do now?”

Immediately, Du Wei said, “I need manpower. Additionally, you should be able to communicate with the officials of Scolyn City, right? I need to confirm whether the painting is still properly placed in the museum.”

Mrs. Senna replied, feeling helpless, “I can send you some people; you will be meeting them eventually anyway. As for the officials of Scolyn City, we’ll say hello from our side.”

“But I need to know, how exactly do you plan on dealing with this situation?”

Du Wei spoke gravely, “Without enough information, I don’t know what to do. All I can tell you is I will do my best, but it’s not like before. I need manpower and some items.”

Mrs. Senna, puzzled, said, “This is insane, and didn’t we already give you that coin? What more do you want!”

Du Wei answered, “I know, the church has a flintlock gun that can be used against evil spirits, and I need it.”

He had envied James’s flintlock gun for quite some time.

Moreover, he now possessed a Joker Card capable of granting wishes, as well as a coin that signified luck.

With that gun, his own safety would be even more secure.

Most importantly, his Black Umbrella was already ruined…

Mrs. Senna’s voice lowered, “The flintlock gun has been lost in Massas City; it is no longer with the church.”

Du Wei pressed on, “Then find me a replacement; you know my Evil Spirit Transformation is problematic. You can’t possibly expect me to face such dangerous things head-on.”

This wasn’t a threat, but a fact.

That thing called Hoddy, it wanted to come out through the door, and it spoke of ‘they.’

Meaning the evil spirits of those students from the school…

Up to now, nine student spirits were still trapped by him in Massas City…

Once those evil spirits got out, who knows what would happen.

Du Wei wanted to resolve the matter, and the church also needed his intervention.

This could be seen as a transaction.

In the end, Mrs. Senna chose to compromise, “Actually, there is another flintlock gun inside the church, but I need to have a talk with Bishop Thompson because both guns are his.”

Naturally, Du Wei would not push his luck. He directly asked, “When can I expect the people you’re sending to arrive? I need to prepare.”

“They can be in New York by tonight. And remember, they are all candidates for the Tribunal, you are their leader, you are responsible… at the very least, for reducing unnecessary casualties. Do you understand?”

Du Wei said pensively, “I will…”

In the reception room.

Father Tony looked at Du Wei as he hung up the call, a complicated expression in his eyes, and said in an almost worshipful tone, “Mr. Du Wei, how did you manage that?”

“Hmm?”

Du Wei frowned, “What do you mean?”

Father Tony spread his hands, “I’m talking about Mrs. Senna, we dated when I was younger, and she never fell short of scolding me, she really was like a shrew. But you, you persuaded her.”

With a resigned tone, Du Wei said, “That’s because I was handling the matter, not her, and with the way I steered the conversation, she followed along with my line of thought.”

Father Tony pondered, “It seems I also need to study some psychology.”

Suddenly.

At that moment, a series of footsteps sounded.

The door to the reception room creaked open, and in came Tom, clad in a police uniform, sauntering in as if he owned the place.

“Huh, Du Wei, you’re here too?”

“Just dealing with some things.”

Du Wei was rather surprised; why was Tom, early in the morning, wearing his police uniform and coming to the church?

Wasn’t he supposed to be on duty in Yard City?

Father Tony quickly explained, “Tom is heading to Yard City today. Yesterday, he asked me to prepare a few things for him… the kind that can provide protection.”

Enlightened, Du Wei said, “Didn’t you prepare some white cloth and Holy Water for Tom?”

Tom waved his hands and said, “That stuff’s not as safe as what you have on you, and besides, Yard City just had over a thousand people killed by an Evil Spirit. I don’t want any trouble.”

With that, he chuckled at Father Tony, “Why don’t you come along to Yard City with me? The scenery there is definitely nothing like New York.”

Father Tony’s face turned red, and he quickly coughed a few times, covering up his embarrassment, “No, no, I’m old now, I can’t handle that kind of stress.”

Hearing this, Du Wei felt very helpless inside.

However, thinking of how Esselgreen was right next to Yard City, and that there was a “gate” in Esselgreen, he became somewhat worried.

If Tom encountered danger, he wouldn’t have the energy to go rescue him.

Thus, Du Wei said seriously, “Yard City isn’t exactly safe. It’d better if you gave Tom something more useful, and definitely not one of those silver crucifix daggers; those can only provide self-defense at best.”

Tom was taken aback and looked at Father Tony in disbelief, “fuck! That’s only for self-defense?”

Father Tony was awkward to a fault, “Don’t get me wrong, I will definitely give you something more effective.”

Tom, grinding his teeth, said, “But yesterday, you told me that you were going to prepare a crucifix dagger for me, hyping it up all night about how powerful that dagger was. So, were you lying to me?”

fuck!

He was beginning to regret taking Father Tony to the Red Light District every day.

At critical times, his good brother Du Wei was much more reliable!

Father Tony hemmed and hawed, “Let me explain.”

Tom scoffed, “Explain? You expect me to go hand-to-hand with an Evil Spirit using a crucifix dagger? Or do you think I’ve lived too long and want to send me to meet God?”

After all, he wasn’t like Du Wei, who spent his days looking for trouble from Evil Spirits.

If he really encountered an Evil Spirit, Tom figured he’d probably just end up being a large protein snack for it.
