The man turned his head and looked at the Grim Reaper.

“There are always countless ‘if’. However, ‘if’ is always different from what actually happened. We can’t know what could’ve happened, but we know the truth present before us.

“The man was a bandit leader. He stole, he killed, and enjoyed those things. Those were his choices. And so, he must receive the result of his choices,” the man said.

“It was a good Judgment,” the Grim Reaper nodded.

The man’s eyes lit. He looked towards the Grim Reaper happily, “So I passed the test?”

He believed he had passed. The fact that he would no longer be going to hell brought immense relief to him.

“No,” the Grim Reaper shook his head. “You’ve failed.”

“What?!” the man shouted, then realizing his actions, spoke nicely, “W-was there a problem with my Judgment? You said it was a good Judgment.”

“It was the perfect Judgment. That is why you failed.”

The man was about to shout when he noticed the Grim Reaper was staring in another direction. He followed the Grim Reaper’s gaze, and noticed a mirror.

“Huh?”

The face of the bandit leader was reflected in the mirror.

He was sitting on the bed and looking at the man with a confused gaze.

Immediately, memories began to pour into the man’s head. They were the memories of the bandit leader— no, himself.

They showed how he had enjoyed pillaging. How he would joke to his underlings about finding good women. How his heart would always jump from excitement upon seeing the money they would gather.

The disgusting bandit leader he had been seeing, and judged, was himself.

“You fucking bastard!” the man shouted. “What is the meaning of this…”

Before the man could shout, strength left his body and he fell to the bed. He began to lose consciousness.

“Worry not. You are only going to dream, O Young One.”

“What am I going to dream about?” the man eked out with all of his strength.

“All the punishments you wanted to be given to the criminal would be now experienced by you. After those punishments end, your existence would be erased.”

The man wanted to shout.

How could the Grim Reaper trick him into something like this? How could they, the ones who should be impartial judges, use underhanded trickery like this?

After the man lost consciousness, the Grim Reaper entered his dream again. He watched over his punishments for decades, and at the end, when the punishments ended, he erased the man’s existence as he had foretold.

During this whole time, Nameless Death had been watching everything.

He was able to enter the man’s dream along with the Grim Reaper.

After the man’s body disappeared, the Grim Reaper went still again. Then, days later, he moved, and opened the door.

Once again, a man, different from before, was outside.

Nameless Death repeated several cycles.

He found a lot of useful information thanks to them.

First, if he left the room while the ‘Judgment’ was going on, he could not re-enter the room until the Judgment ended.

Second, the people who were caught must answer the questions Grim Reaper asked. This place forced them to talk even if they didn’t want to.

Lastly, if someone was Judged to be a good person, they would face one of the two scenarios.

They would be shown good dreams before their existence is erased, or they would be put into Eternal Slumber.

“Eternal Slumber?” asked the old woman, who had been told by the Grim Reaper she would go into Eternal Slumber.

“Lady Kaskha, you’ve lived an exemplary life. One that benefitted countless people, and helped them live happily. While you could’ve been shown a good dream, we believe it is not enough to reward you.”

“So I will be put into an Eternal Slumber?”

“Yes, your slumber will continue until the Godfather appears, and then he would reward you personally.”

“Godfather….?”

“He is the Creator, and the End. The source of life and destruction. The One True God.”

The woman nodded. While she found it hard to believe that there was someone omnipotent, and omniscient like that, she had already met a Grim Reaper. Maybe there was a God like that too.

She was put into Eternal Slumber.

Nameless Death left the room after he felt like he had watched enough.

“I see, I can’t enter this room again, since now the old woman is having her Eternal Slumber inside.”

They called it Eternal not because they didn’t plan to give the rewards until the end of eternity, but because none of them knew when their God would return.

However, the Grim Reapers and the Universe still hoped that one day, their God and their Creator would return.

Until then, his people would sleep eternally, waiting for the day they would meet him, and receive his grace.

“An End where one Judges themselves,” said a familiar voice.

Nameless Death snapped his head towards the source of the voice. There, he saw Hades.

It seemed he had been looking through the rooms just like Nameless Death.

“Haah,” Hades sighed. “Even if it is a good END, you are still receiving the negative karma for lying to them in their end moments. Even if it is only a little amount, it will gradually become larger than oceans.”

Hades clenched his fists. He kept muttering to himself.

“You should know all of this. Yet, why…. Why have you created such a compassionate END?”

An END where one judged themselves.

While it was a good end, Neo was gathering negative karma for lying to people and tricking them during their end moments.

Of course, he was also receiving good karma, since the END helped a lot of people realize that they’ve lived a bad life, and they should’ve done better. These people either thanked Neo — the Creator — or blessed him with their heart.

However, the amount of negative karma was still higher, and more people cursed the Creator God for tricking them. To these people, it felt as if they were being mocked.
