Chapter 990: Chapter 990: Tael Wheeled Cart_1 Chapter 990: Chapter 990: Tael Wheeled Cart_1 Upon opening the letter and seeing his mother’s admonishments, Yang Ye blinked his phoenix eyes and then turned to look at the now-empty pastry box.

He thought the pastries tasted bad; in the past, he would have thrown them away already.

Having seen so many suffering people on his journey, he had corrected his bad habit of wasting food and rewarded the people below by giving them what he had planned to discard.

Now, looking at the instructions from his mother in the letter, he couldn’t help but shrink his neck.

The pastries didn’t taste that great, and yet his mother had insisted that he finish them all; wasn’t this torturing him?

What’s more, it was strange that his mother had never sent him anything before, but now she had mysteriously sent several boxes of pastries with instructions to finish them all. What had happened?

Unable to understand what had happened, Yang Ye took up his pen and wrote his confusion in the letter.

There was no need to send pastries from such a great distance; Qiao Xiaomai often sent him things to eat, so he wasn’t lacking in delicacies.

After finishing the letter, Yang Ye also sent one to Yang Wenxiao, who was living at Qiao Xiaomai’s house.

Yang Wenxiao was now enjoying leisurely days like an old farmer, which seemed like a good state to be in. In recent days, he had heard that Xiaomai’s son had come up with something called a two-wheeled cart, and he wanted the actual model.

Sleds were fun, but they required snow to be enjoyed.

This so-called two-wheeled cart relied on one’s legs to pedal, and he was eager to experience it for himself!

Two letters, one sent to the Capital City, the other to the manor.

Bailu Town was located in the middle of Daqi and was closer to Yang Ye. Yang Wenxiao received Yang Ye’s letter before Yao Xian did. Upon opening it, he saw it was filled with seven or eight pages of nonsense. He skimmed through and extracted the essence, then laughed.

He casually handed the letter to Gao Lian and then pointed at the two-wheeled cart in the courtyard, saying, “Send this to Yeye.”

Tong Tiehu and Qiao Changshun joined forces and had built the two-wheeled cart. It featured a back stand for seating and a beautifully woven bamboo basket in front. Aside from the chain being made of iron, the rest was constructed from wood. It moved smoothly on the bluestone road, the neat chains spinning cheerily like a model’s. A couple of foot pumps could propel it a great distance, indeed more lightweight than the adult-sized tricycle he had come up with.

He also tried it on a dirt road and, although it wasn’t as fast as on the bluestone road, it was definitely not strenuous and much quicker than walking on two legs.

This device was perfect for farmers.

Although there were fewer cases of people dying from starvation now, the entire farmer class was still exceptionally poor. The situation in Bailu Town was unique; the farmers’ conditions were better than those in other places, but there were few households with livestock.

In all of Anping Village, a large village of five thousand people, less than ten households possessed cattle or donkeys.

What did that imply?

If this was the situation in a village like Anping, what about the other poorer areas?

Without livestock, all farming tasks relied on human labor. For example, when harvesting wheat, one had to cut the wheat stalks with sickles and then transport the wheat back home using a cart. With so much wheat, it had to be transported one cartload at a time, which was incredibly slow.

If they had these two-wheeled carts, at the very least, farmers wouldn’t have to walk on two legs when working the fields. They could save some energy and also carry some items: carrying two sacks of green grass back home after weeding would be much more convenient than shouldering it or pushing a cart.

Those wealthy families would only treat these two-wheeled carts as toys, while the farmers who truly needed them could not afford them…

After much contemplation, Yang Wenxiao ordered someone to call for Qiao Xiaomai.
