First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 1866: The Transience of Naihe

Cultivating before the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele was a different experience, and provided different revelations, for different people.

To Su Yi, the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele was a supreme treasure for divining the Grand Dao. There was absolutely nothing else like it in this world!

Flowers Bloom on the Far Shore was a technique Su Yi had divined during his enlightened state cultivating before the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele.

It had taken him but one day. Who knew how much time it would have taken to develop without the stele’s help? This was what made the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele so valuable. But then... that only applied to Su Yi. Every time he tried, he smoothly entered that wondrous state of enlightenment. That made the stele unbelievably useful, both for divining the mysteries of the Grand Dao and for developing new sword techniques.

Had it been anyone else in his place, that would not have been possible.

One look at Lin Feng, and that was immediately obvious. He, Luo Changning, and Dong Xuan were all Li Fuyou’s disciples, and all three were unparalleled Immortal Sovereigns, yet none of them had ever entered an enlightened state like Su Yi’s.

A rain of light scattered, and the aftershock gradually stilled.

The Blood-Marked Sovereign sat on the ground, hair disheveled as he repeatedly coughed up blood. His waxy face was as white as a sheet. Most startling of all, all of his blood and flesh had withered and sloughed off. He groaned in agony as chunks of meat fell to the floor, crumbled into dust, and dissipated.

This was the power of the Far Shore. It burnt away the flesh and destroyed the soul.

In the Netherworld, those who stepped onto the Path of the Far Shore were extradited souls!

“I wouldn’t have thought an Immortal King like you could exist in this world. It’s truly hard to believe…” The Blood-Marked Sovereign murmured despondently. He could sense his life force withering and flowing away, and he knew he wasn’t long for this world.

“Actually, if you’d been a little more careful, you could have lasted longer,” said Su Yi. “That aside, I had to use external power to break through your killer move. That doesn’t really reflect my actual abilities.”

The Blood-Marked Sovereign was stunned; he wouldn’t have expected Su Yi to be so forthright.

A moment later, he shook his head. “I don’t need your sympathy. Do you really think I couldn’t tell? That strike of yours wasn’t in any way ‘external power!’”

As he spoke, he raised his head with great difficulty and looked at Su Yi. The skin and flesh was falling off his face, a terrifying sight.

“Before I die, might you tell me… why you see us as whetstones?”

He was obviously bitter, and confused, too.

Su Yi said solemnly, “Lin Feng and Dong Xuan were my disciples. They were ambushed while attempting to achieve divinity, and one of them perished.”

The Blood-Marked Sovereign’s pupils constricted. He couldn’t help but blurt, “You’re… Sky Venerate Spiritual Desolation!?”

“I used to be,” said Su Yi.

Sky Venerate Spiritual Desolation!

According to Ao Chiting, in the Primeval Era, the title “Sky Venerate” was exclusive to Li Fuyou. Back then, the masses only knew his title. Almost no one knew Li Fuyou’s real name!

The Blood-Marked Sovereign trembled, his expression full of horror. He opened his mouth to speak, only for his life force to run dry. What remained of him collapsed into a puddle of flesh and blood. ṛÅΝỗΒЕš

Destroyed, body and soul.

Su Yi wasn’t at all emotional about it. The dogs of Divine Venerate Tian Huang weren’t worthy of his sympathy.

“Your Excellency, those knives of his are real treasures!” The Divine Replenishment Furnace whooshed over and eagerly gathered the Blood-Marked Sovereign’s treasures, including that pair of Great Profound knives.

It didn’t overlook the Blood-Marked Sovereign’s storage belt, either.

Su Yi enjoyed a moment of leisure and relished that the Divine Replenishment Furnace was now aware enough to take responsibility for odd jobs.

He thought for a moment, then decided to choose another whetstone. There was nothing for it; that battle hadn’t been anywhere near enough to satisfy him.

“Yao Queen Luofu, come out!” Su Yi’s voice rang out once more.

The old monsters in the prison weren’t at all prepared for it, and they were completely caught off guard.

Barely any time has passed. Don’t tell me the Blood-Marked Sovereign has been defeated already?

One of them couldn’t help but ask, “Fellow Daoist, might I ask if the Blood-Marked Sovereign is alive or dead?”

“Dead.”

The old monsters were stunned, and the atmosphere was instantly tense and oppressive. Overnight, they'd worked together to estimate Su Yi’s strength and come up with the perfect plan to destroy him. They'd figured their best bet was to strike with full power right from the start, killing him before he could react.

Who’d have thought that the Blood-Marked Sovereign would lose anyway? Much less so quickly!?

This was entirely outside of their expectations.

“Can I… refuse?” Yao Queen Luofu hesitated. Her strength was on roughly the same level as the Blood-Marked Sovereign. Of course she was afraid!

“No,” Su Yi said calmly. “Refuse, and I’ll use the power of Annihilation to kill you where you stand.”

Yao Queen Luofu looked stricken, but in the end, she gnashed her teeth and left the prison.

……

About ten minutes later.

Su Yi left the bronze palace. Yao Queen Luofu’s corpse had already been reduced to a puddle of blood.

Su Yi was covered in injuries. He looked utterly wretched.

There was no denying that when she fought without regard for her life, Yao Queen Luofu was even more troublesome than the Blood-Marked Sovereign, and more terrifying, too. Even when Su Yi fought with everything he had, he faced numerous incomparably dangerous attacks.

In the end, Yao Queen Luofu used an extraordinarily insidious killer move to deal Su Yi massive damage. He’d won, but he was severely injured.

But Su Yi was pleased with this battle!

Because this time, he had fought head-on, relying purely on his own strength to kill a second Great Profound powerhouse!

Both were a bit weaker than Old Devil Star Lake. They were second-rate experts among Great Profound cultivators.

That means that, relying purely on my own combat strength, and assuming a one-on-one duel, I can defeat Great Profound cultivators of their level. I might suffer grievous injuries in the process, but I can do it.

If I have the Sword of the Human Realm, or if I use external power like the Tree of All Worlds and the Sword of the Nine Hells, I should be able to kill even first-rate Great Profound experts like Old Devil Star Lake….

As he pondered, Su Yi returned to the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele. To him, Spiritual Desolation Mountain was an ideal ground for secluded cultivation. He had rare and precious cultivation resources, a stele that could help him divine all Daos and temper his swordsmanship, and even a supply of Great Profound Stage old monsters to serve as whetstones… He had everything he needed!

There was just one thing Su Yi was still uncertain about. He’d discovered that within his current level, his strength still had room for improvement. Thus, he couldn’t be certain when his chance to break into the Great Realm would arrive. That aside, he was pleased with how everything was going.

……

Another half a month passed in a flash.

The bronze palace atop the peak.

“Cut!”

A voice rang out. Su Yi pressed down, and sword qi swept forth. The misty Naihe Bridge appeared within it, connecting the worlds of life and death.

The River of Forgetfulness coursed beneath the Naihe Bridge. Countless vengeful souls writhed and struggled within its waves. It was a terrifying, sinister scene.

Kaboom!

Sword qi descended, and a tall man whose demonic qi rose into the firmament let out a desperate, agonized shriek.

The Naihe Bridge ran him through, splitting his body. His soul fell into the River of Forgetfulness, reduced to powder within its raging current!

This strike was called the Transience of Naihe. It was the fifth sword technique that Su Yi had created with the mysteries of reincarnation. As for the tall man, he was the eighth opponent Su Yi had killed over the past two weeks. He was comparable in strength to Old Devil Star Lake, a first-rate figure among Great Profound cultivators.

Su Yi had paid a heavy price for this victory. His injuries were terrible! Fortunately, he was used to it. He’d been injured to a similar extent several times over the past few months.

Still, when he killed second-rate Immortal Sovereigns like Yao Queen Luofu or the Blood-Marked Sovereign, he took fewer and fewer injuries each time…

He left the bronze palace and gazed into the dome of heaven.

Two weeks had passed, and only about half of the power of the Laws of Annihilation enveloping Spiritual Desolation Mountain remained. The once dense layers of cloud had been reduced to somewhat concentrated mist.

If everything went as expected, over the next half month, Divine Venerate Tian Huang’s power of Annihilation would fade away completely. The cage confining his emissaries would disappear along with it.

Su Yi raised a jug of wine and drank with relish before returning to the halfway point of the mountain.

He’d noticed that over the course of the past two weeks, the time he spent in that wondrous state of enlightenment grew, and he could divine increasingly abstruse mysteries of the Grand Dao.

His strength would soon reach the limit of what was possible at his current level.

The pinnacle of the Immortal King Realm was a wondrous thing. Su Yi was increasingly aware that he was nearing the limit.

Hah~! Su Yi let out a long breath of turbid air, sat down, and crossed his legs.

Wisps of chaos mist rose from the Dao Manifestation Chaos Stele and surged into his unmoving figure.

……

Meanwhile, within the prison that Divine Venerate Tian Huang had left behind.

“Demon Monarch Red Sky is dead…” a low voice rang out. The atmosphere was incomparably stifled and heavy.

Over the past two weeks, eight of the thirteen emissaries of Divine Venerate Tian Huang had lost their lives. They'd survived the passage of countless years, enduring the sunless darkness of their prison, only to die at the hands of a young Immortal King.

This was unquestionably far too great a blow!

“How lofty and unfettered were we during the Primeval Era? Yet now, we’ve been reduced to an Immortal King’s whetstones. How tragic! And how ridiculous!” someone cried out in grief and indignation.

Suddenly, someone hissed, “If Divine Venerate Tian Huang hadn’t imprisoned us here, how could we have suffered all those years of torment? And how could we have sunk this low? I said it a long time ago: that bastard Tian Huang lied to us!”

His voice was full of the utmost hatred and resentment.

The others fell silent. They’d served the Divine Venerate loyally, only for him to heartlessly cast them away. But they had no choice but to hope that one day, Divine Venerate Tian Huang would make good on his promise, release them from captivity, and usher them into the God Domain.

This was their only hope. They had no other way out!!

But now, they’d completely given in to despair. Even this last shred of hope had been heartlessly ripped to shreds. They naturally could no longer suppress countless years of accumulated resentment.

Suddenly, an aged voice rang out, “No, there’s still something we can do!”
