First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 1892: Sending You On Your Way

Divine Emissary Yue Bai fell silent.

Li Youxue, the emissary of the demons of the Beyond, fell silent.

The experts gathered atop Cloudsoar Peak fell silent.

If Su Yi died, his threats would undoubtedly become a joke, but what if… he lived? They couldn’t help but weigh the consequences of that!

Su Yi hovered beneath the dome of heaven, robes fluttering around him. He stood alone, but he had the presence of a solitary warrior defending a pass, heedless of the army before him.

His sheer domineeringness made the crowd’s hearts shake. They now understood on a visceral level just how grand, contemptuous, and proud the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign was.

The atmosphere was stifled and tense.

Sect Leader Qi Nie suddenly burst into derisive laughter. He sighed, “It’s indeed just as my master predicted. Wang Ye, you’re cold-blooded and selfish. You act without reservation even when those closest to you suffer! Very well then. We want to remove you, the greatest scourge of the Immortal Realm. Since you’re here, everything else can wait until after we’ve killed you!”

He waved to his subordinates. “Take the hostages away!”

“Understood!”

A group of experts emerged from halfway up the mountain, then brought the cages away, captives and all.

The crowd took it all in. All of them felt shaken. Who could fail to realize that Qi Nie had made concessions in the face of Su Yi’s domineering momentum?

“Them, too.” Su Yi gestured to the thousand or so experts arrested for objecting to Qi Nie’s plans.

“We gave you an inch, and now you’re demanding a mile!” Sect Leader Xuan Zhong of the Church of Supreme Oneness bellowed coldly.

Su Yi was brazenly ordering them about. This made all of them thoroughly uncomfortable, and they felt they had no face left.

Some of the older-generation experts’ eyes blazed with murderous intent. They longed for nothing more than to smack Su Yi to death on the spot.

But Su Yi just said calmly, “Listen carefully: in doing this, you’re leaving your sectmates, relatives, and friends a path to survival. Whether you accept my terms or not is up to you.”

Qi Nie took a deep breath, his gaze dignified. “Everyone, we needn’t be overly concerned with something so trivial. We’ve decided to re-establish the Central Immortal Court, so we ought to have the breadth of spirit to dedicate ourselves to the wellbeing of the entire Immortal Realm. We cannot let Su Yi look down on us, either.”

He waved. “Let them go!”

“Got it!”

The thousand-plus confined experts regained their freedom. Before they left Cloudsoar Peak, they faced Su Yi and bowed.

“Many thanks, Your Excellency the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign!”

“Many thanks!”

“Wonderful, wonderful! With you here, Your Excellency, there’s no way those fiends intent on selling off sixteen of our provinces will escape!”

…All of them were excited, their eyes bright. The rims of some of the older-generation cultivators’ eyes reddened and overflowed with tears.

Garrison Master Li Xiehu of the Sixth Gate of Heaven even knelt in midair and kowtowed. “Your Excellency, I humbly request that you restore justice and order on behalf of the people of the Immortal Realm! Toward that end, this junior, Li Xiehu, is willing to do whatever it takes, even if it means casting myself into the flames and dying ten thousand deaths!” ȑАɴÓᛒĘṧ

His voice boomed throughout the surrounding area. Many of the onlookers felt their blood heating up just listening to him.

Su Yi swept his gaze across the crowd and said, “All of you, step back for now. With me here, there’s no need for you to go to your deaths.”

“Yes, sir!” All of them stepped back.

Su Yi then gazed at the tens of thousands of cultivators clustered around the foot of the mountain and laughed. “You should step back too, the further the better. That way, you won’t get hurt when the fighting begins.”

His tone was casual, but his well-intentioned warning touched the crowd’s hearts.

What did it mean to dedicate oneself to the well-being of the Immortal Realm? What did it mean to care for the populace? This was it! A man’s breadth of spirit and sense of the bigger picture had never been a matter of boasting. For all of Sect Leader Qi Nie’s impassioned speeches and eloquence, he wasn’t even remotely comparable to Su Yi in this regard.

“No sincerity!” Xuan Zhong snorted coldly. “Su Yi, if you were really so compassionate, you’d slit your throat and kill yourself immediately. In doing so, you’d rid the Immortal Realm of its greatest scourge!”

His words were extraordinarily grating to the ears, but Su Yi disregarded them. He stepped through the air, drawing closer to Cloudsoar Peak. “I know you’ve been waiting for a long time now, so let’s skip the nonsense.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, his sleeves billowed, and sword intent rose into the air. His momentum was suddenly as forceful and sharp as the edge of an unparalleled sword, illuminating the nine heavens and the ten earths.

Heaven and earth shifted. The very sky itself quivered.

The distant onlookers watched with bated breath. All of them knew that if Su Yi died at the Immortal Peach Assembly, the Immortal Realm’s balance of power would undergo an earth-shaking transformation. They’d cede the sixteen provinces lining the border to the demons of the Beyond, and the top immortal factions involved would become the new world order of the Immortal Realm.

On the other hand, if Su Yi won, everything would turn on its head. The Immortal Realm might well see a return to the days of prosperity prior to the Age of Fallen Immortals. The two possible outcomes represented starkly different futures!

“Hah!” Sect Leader Xuan Zhong of the Church of Supreme Oneness said with a playful laugh, “We’ve prepared a little ‘appetizer’ for you to enjoy before we fight. I’m just not sure if you’ll be able to digest it!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, a group of over a hundred people shot off Cloudsoar Peak.

They included men and women of all ages, but all of them emanated dense death qi, and their gazes were hollow.

“Huh? Isn’t that the Black Dragon Dao Monarch, the former master of the Black Dragon Market? Didn’t he die during the Age of Fallen Immortals?”

“Fang Que of the Bi’an Spirit Race! So, he… he’s still alive?”

“That’s the third dean of the Academy of Eternal Night, Lei Daoyun! During the Age of Fallen Immortals, the demons of the Beyond invaded the Immortal Realm. I know someone who saw with his own eyes as Lei Daoyun died in battle, so… how could he possibly still be alive?”

When the hundred-plus experts shrouded in death qi appeared, it triggered widespread uproar. A commotion arose on all sides.

The reason was simple. All of them had different backgrounds, but all of them were prominent experts who’d died a long, long time ago. Yet now, all of them had appeared alive! Their ranks even included no small number of Great Martial Stage cultivators like Fang Que and Lei Daoyun!

When Su Yi took in these familiar figures, his brow furrowed, and his eyes frosted over.

Some of them were his old friends, others, his former subordinates, but all of them had been refined into Living Corpse Puppets, neither human nor ghost. They were completely beyond saving. He didn’t even need to think to know that Jiang Tai’e, one of Wang Ye’s greatest enemies, was behind this. The old-timer’s greatest skill lay in the Dao of Puppetry!

“And why isn’t Jiang Tai’e here?” Su Yi fixed his cold gaze on Sect Leader Xuan Zhong.

Xuan Zhong laughed. “The founder is in seclusion. He cannot divert his attention, but when he heard that you planned to participate in our little assembly, he went out of his way to prepare this generous gift!”

“Take this opportunity, while you’re still alive, to send him a message,” said Su Yi. “Tell him that I’ll soon pull the Church of Supreme Oneness up by the roots. He is under no circumstances to die until I get there.”

His tone was casual, yet as cold and never-melting ice. It was enough to make one shudder.

Xuan Zhong couldn’t help but laugh. “This is just an appetizer, but you’re already beside yourself with anger? You really don’t know how to keep a cool head!”

He then chanted a booming invocation and ordered, “Get him!”

His voice shook heaven and earth.

Boom!

Over one hundred Living Corpse Puppets attacked en masse, all of them emanating monstrous death qi as they swarmed at Su Yi from all sides.

Lei Daoyun and Fang Que, Great Martial Stage cultivators in life, were particularly powerful even now that they’d been refined into puppets. They were far beyond Immortal Kings.

Su Yi’s gaze was complicated, but he just sighed to himself and hesitated no longer. His sleeves billowed around him as he pressed his fingers into a sword.

Countless fiery red Flowers of the Far Shore appeared throughout heaven and earth, resplendent and dreamlike. The flowers gathered into a path leading into the endless darkness, the Path of the Far Shore.

Heaven and earth dimmed, save for the fiery rain of flowers. Before the Living Corpse Puppets could even draw near Su Yi, they were enveloped and incinerated.

Wisps of green smoke rose, and over a hundred familiar figures dissipated upon the fiery Path of the Far Shore, leaving only their ethereal soul bodies behind.

They were like lost souls, completely bewildered as the Path of the Far Shore guided them into the darkness beyond.

It was only in the last moments before they disappeared that they regained their mental clarity. All of them whipped around to look at the distant Su Yi.

All of them smiled gratefully; they’d finally found release.

Within moments, they vanished.

“Farewell.” Su Yi took out a jug of wine and overturned it, pouring the liquid into the air.

These friends and subordinates of his had all had lower cultivations than Wang Ye in life, but all of them carried his memories. Now, he’d helped them find release with his own two hands, and he’d bid them farewell. Su Yi’s heart was full of grief and fury, but more than that, an indescribable melancholy. It was as if he were bidding his past self farewell too!

The Flowers of the Far Shore dimmed. The path into the endless darkness would soon disappear.

The crowd, meanwhile, was in uproar.

With a wave of Su Yi’s hand, over a hundred Living Corpse Puppets went up in a puff of smoke! His power left countless onlookers tongue-tied.

But a moment later, they noticed that where the puppets fell, they each left a black formation flag behind. The flags were three feet long, pitch-black, and covered in strange and mysterious markings of the Divine Dao.

Su Yi’s eyes narrowed.

Boom!!

One hundred and eight black formation flags shook in unison and took to the skies, the fabric swaying as a divine formation shot into the firmament. The bright midday skies were instantly plunged into darkness, as if the sun had been extinguished.

It was like the descent of an eternal night.

A mysterious and terrifying taboo aura transformed into mist, blanketing the sky and separating the entire area from the outside world!

The distant onlookers’ hair stood on end; they could barely even breathe. What level of formation is this!? It’s actually blotting out heaven and earth and severing the area’s connection to the Laws of the Natural Order!

This was far too terrifying. Even just gazing upon it from afar made their souls palpitate. It was as if they’d been plunged into the abyss!

The experts on the slopes of Cloudsoar Peak were instantly excited.

The Skyless Darkness Divine Formation!

This was a terrifying divine formation that could obscure the Laws of the Immortal Dao. This was a hidden card they’d prepared for the express purpose of destroying Su Yi!

“A divine formation?” Su Yi’s eyes flashed with mockery.

He put his hands behind his back and made no impetuous movements. Instead, he looked at Qi Nie. “This isn’t even worth looking at. If you’ve got any cards left up your sleeves, you can go ahead and reveal them now!”

“Want to die? That’s easily done, is it not?” Qi Nie burst into laughter. “Seniors, our enemy has fallen into our trap. I’ll have to ask you to step in and finish him off!”
