Chapter 1998: Carrying Out Heaven’s Will
The man in black finally realized who his assailant was.
His understanding of Su Yi was stuck in the past; it hadn’t been updated in five years, but that was no longer important. What mattered is that he was in grave peril!
The man in black didn’t even pause to think before resorting to threats. “Su Yi, I’m from the Church of the Pure One. You…”
“The Church of the Pure One has been destroyed,” said Su Yi.
“Ah?” The black-robed man’s eyes bulged. For a moment, he didn’t know how to respond.
“Qi Nie is dead, and it’s not just him. Blood Firmament is dead too,” Su Yi continued.
“????” The man in black didn’t know what to say.
The sight of him standing there like a startled goose made Su Yi laugh. “A month from now, when the portal between realms opens, word of what has happened in the Immortal Realm will likely spread to the Eastern Profound Star Domain. Alas, you won’t live to see that day.”
“I…” The man in black was about to say something when his body disintegrated into ash and scattered to the wind.
As a Universe Realm Immortal, he really could explore the Human Realm and act wantonly without fear. But in Su Yi’s eyes, he was no more than an ant.
“I can’t delay any further, and in the Human Realm… There’s no need for me to hide anything. I need to bring Qing Wan and the others away as soon as possible.” Su Yi gazed into the dome of heaven.
“Are you… Are you Sword Venerate Su?” The old man he’d just saved asked in a quavering voice.
Su Yi subtly inclined his head.
A deathly silence had fallen over the vicinity. Seeing Su Yi annihilate the black-robed sword immortal had startled and terrified the crowd.
When the old man spoke, the deathly silence gave way to widespread uproar. Many of the onlookers had long since noticed that Su Yi looked just like the statue of Sword Venerate Su. When Su Yi confirmed his identity, the crowd naturally boiled over.
“Is that really Sword Venerate Su?”
“He’s returned from the Immortal Realm?”
“My heavens. It’s like I’m dreaming!”
…Voices arose on all sides, like a pot blowing off its lid.
Sword Venerate Su!
The mightiest expert of the stars and the greatest swordsman of the Human Realm! Who didn’t know his name?
He was now an unparalleled, legendary figure throughout the Human Realm. It was thus easy to imagine how great a shock it was to see him in person.
Su Yi was a bit touched. Not long ago, most cultivators of the Eastern Profound Star Domain had referred to him as the Temple Master! Even after learning that he’d reincarnated, the world was slow to adapt, and his old title stuck.
The Temple Master’s influence was just too great!
But now, that was no longer the case. When the people spoke of him, they no longer referred to him as the Temple Master. This was a change, and it represented that his current incarnation’s influence far eclipsed that of the Temple Master!
Su Yi was touched, but only briefly. To him, fame and reputation were as transient as the floating clouds overhead.
He pressed down with his foot, and… Boom!
The thousand-foot statue crumbled into a pile of rubble.
The crowd was flabbergasted. They could never have anticipated that Su Yi would destroy his own statue.
“Sword Venerate Su, why have you done this?” someone couldn’t help but ask.
“If no one in the Human Realm can ever surpass me, what need is there for a statue?” Su Yi said with a laugh. “Who in this world could possibly forget me?”
The crowd’s hearts churned. He was right. Sword Sovereign Su’s attainments in the Grand Dao were unprecedented in any era, and his name would be spoken of for ten thousand generations to come. There was absolutely no need to build statues in his honor!
Su Yi’s voice rang out once more. “And if someone appears who can surpass me, I’m sure to fade from the public eye. No amount of statues could possibly change that. So why concern myself with them? They’re nothing but dead objects!”
Su Yi laughed. “I actually rather hope that someone in the days ahead can surpass the glory I left in the Human Realm. Only then can I have a qualified successor!”
The crowd was moved, and their hearts filled with grand ambition.
Su Yi, meanwhile, had already vanished into thin air.
……
Atop a mountain in an uncultivated wilderness far from civilization.
Su Yi gently drifted onto the cliffside. When the wind blew past, it rustled his blue robes.
He let out a long breath, then gazed into the dome of heaven.
Boom!
Su Yi’s terrifying divine sense surged forth, then shot into the firmament, arriving beneath the dome of heaven. The wind and clouds were thrown into disarray, and all of creation shifted.
The power of the Laws covering the Divine Capital Star Realm surged violently. It was resisting the power of Su Yi’s soul!
Su Yi wasn’t at all flustered or panicked. His lips parted, and he said softly, “Now, I’ll use my Grand Dao to temporarily replace the Laws of the natural order. Take it as… me carrying out heaven’s will.”
Boom!
His divine sense spread outward, instantly surging into the Laws of the Divine Capital Star Realm. Moreover, he firmly suppressed the Laws’ backlash!
Su Yi then continuously extended his divine sense, spreading it further and further. If the Laws of the Divine Capital Star Realm were like an enormous net, then Su Yi’s divine sense was like liquid flowing down its each and every strand to coat the net in its entirety.
Within just a few breaths of time, Su Yi’s divine sense had enveloped the entire star realm.
A wondrous sensation flooded into Su Yi’s mind. The entire star domain, every mountain, every river, every street of every city, was on full display in his mind, down to the finest detail.
It was just that vivid.
Even the calls of each individual bird and insect, the rustling of the wind, the subtle sound of melting snow, and conversations carried out in hidden chambers…
He could sense it all at once.
Along the northwest border, a vicious bird beat its wings and took to the skies, its claws ripping through layers of cloud as it searched for prey.
Along the southeastern shore, sails were as numerous as trees in a forest. A couple was engaged in the most private of acts, and the woman’s snowy skin quivered as beads of sweat dripped down her long, smooth neck.
In the aqueducts of a densely populated city, an abandoned infant wept, alone in the darkness.
Anything that happened anywhere in the star realm, Su Yi detected. If he exerted his will, he could zoom in and see it all.
He was like the master of creation gazing down upon the world under his domination. The whole world, and every living creature in it, was in the palm of his hand!
At that moment, Su Yi couldn’t help but feel like the incarnation of heaven’s will. It was an unprecedented, wondrous sensation.
But doing this exhausted an enormous amount of energy, and he was a mere avatar of will. If he exhausted its energy reserves, it would dissipate.
“The Immortal Realm and the Human Realm exist on different planes, and their Laws are starkly different, but both are part of the present epoch. Fortunately, I didn’t try to change or break the Laws; all I did was temporarily take their place. Had I gone any further, even if I’d come here with my true body, I wouldn’t have been able to endure the resulting backlash…”
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh.
That wasn’t possible. His true body was the mightiest expert at the peak of the Immortal Dao, an existence capable of slaying Lesser Gods. If he forced his way into the Human Realm, the Laws of the Immortal Dao would intercept and lash out at him. There was no way he could enter the Human Realm in the flesh.
These were the restrictions and limits of power.
Su Yi suddenly understood on a deeper level why existences as mighty as the Master Gods couldn’t enter the Immortal Realm.
The reason was simple: their true bodies were similarly subject to the restrictions of the Laws!
Were that not the case, the gods could have destroyed the Immortal Realm whenever they were in a bad mood. The Immortal Realm would have been destroyed countless times over by now.
Time to get down to business. Su Yi cast aside his scattered thoughts and startled searching for what he most wanted to find.
……
A bustling city.
“Next month, the portal to the Immortal Realm will open, and I plan to return. The Human Realm… has nothing to offer me. Its mottled spiritual energy is completely unsuitable for cultivation,” griped an immortal.
“Yes, but that’s not all. When we use our full strength, we suffer a backlash of the Laws of the Immortal Dao,” sighed another immortal. “My cultivation base hasn’t improved a bit since I got here. Worse, it’s starting to show signs of weakening!”
“It’s all that blasted Su Yi’s fault. We’re here to capture those connected to him, after all. Why would the sect have sent its forces into the Human Realm if not for him?” the first immortal said indignantly.
A moment later, two streaks of sword qi descended from the heavens. Both Universe Realm Immortals died on the spot.
But the power of the natural order gathered the fragments of their souls before they dispersed.
……
“It’s been five years. Never mind the Divine Capital Star Realm; we’ve long since searched the entire Eastern Profound Star Domain for people with a connection to Su Yi!”
“All we have to do now is wait until the portal to the Immortal Realm opens next month. Then, the immortals will bring us with them!”
“I’m going too!”
Within a cultivation faction, a group of older-generation cultivators gathered to discuss their imminent ascension to the Immortal Realm. All of them looked eager.
But before long, dazzling power of the natural order descended and slew every last one of them.
……
Similar scenes took place throughout the Divine Capital Star Realm. It all happened almost simultaneously.
Thousands of experts lost their lives in an instant!
Some were experts from the Immortal Realm, while others were cultivators of the Human Realm who’d pledged themselves to their cause. There were even a few immortal revenants!
These bloody spectacles triggered uproar throughout the star realm. Cries of panic and alarm rose and fell in waves.
But no one knew who’d killed them.
Boom!!
A lightning bolt of the natural order descended, blasting an ancient orthodoxy’s base to bits.
Whoosh!
Sword qi swept through a city, precisely striking every last cultivator loyal to the Church of the Pure One dead.
If the Divine Capital Star Realm were a canvas, then these scattered massacres were like vivid splotches of red ink dotting the composition.
Panic, terror, and dread resulted. The simultaneous executions were utterly unbelievable.
Su Yi was like the ruler of heaven’s will, gazing down upon every last nook and cranny of the star realm. No matter where his enemies were, they couldn’t elude his notice. All of them were heartlessly slaughtered.
As he slew more and more of his enemies and gathered their fragmented souls, Su Yi finally pieced his countless leads together to find the answer he’d been searching for all this time.
His old friends were hiding on an uninhabited island in the Impermeable Demon Ocean. It was the same island where Daoist Master Red Cloud had once lived in seclusion.
Five years ago, experts from the Immortal Realm had thoroughly surrounded the place, only for all of them to perish inexplicably.
Several other attempts had been made over the past five years, but every enemy who drew near died a brutal death, no exceptions!
This instantly drew Su Yi’s attention.
