First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2116 - Only the Frustrated Remain

Chapter 2116 – Only the Frustrated Remain

The second floor was the trial of seizing the moon.

Unlike the first floor, there was only one radiant full moon hanging overhead. However, there were numerous challengers competing for it!

Their means of competition were simple. All of them used their souls to fight amidst the firmament as they tried to seize control over the moon. Anyone who seized control of it could board it, and it would carry them, body, soul, and all, to the third floor.

When Su Yi arrived, around thirty challengers were waging war with their souls beneath the dome of heaven. The competition was fierce and brutal, and the full moon was the focal point of it all.

“Die!

“Out of the way!”

“You’re courting death!”

“Attack together! Disqualify that guy first!”

…Roars rang out. Curses and shouts rose and fell in waves. Everyone was using every secret soul art and divine ability at their disposal in a bid to seize control of the radiant moon.

When Su Yi arrived, the warring challengers discovered him immediately.

“Friend, if you want to participate, join a camp. Whichever camp clinches the victory will receive a chance to send someone to the third floor!” a white-haired, white-bearded old man said gravely.

Su Yi noticed that there were four different camps fighting over the full moon. The larger camps had seven or eight people, while the smaller camps had just five or six.

“Friend, you’d best think it over carefully. Join one camp, and the others will attack you,” said a man in white, his voice booming like thunder. “If you don’t want to participate, just be good and stay put!”

Kaboom!

The battle raged as the challengers of the four camps clashed fiercely. All of them were scrambling to be the first to seize control of the moon.

The white-robed man’s camp had the obvious advantage. They weren’t far from seizing control of the moon.

Su Yi instantly understood. The white-robed man’s words might have seemed like a well-intentioned warning, but they were a threat, too. He was worried that Su Yi would join another camp and interfere with their attempt to seize control of the moon!

“I’m afraid I can’t afford to wait.” Su Yi shook his head.

“Which camp do you plan to join, friend?” asked the white-robed man. “It would naturally be best if you joined us. Join another, and I guarantee that you’ll quickly be eliminated!”

This time, the threat was completely blatant.

“Hmph! If you dare join his camp, I won’t let you go!” the white-haired, white-bearded old man snorted coldly, seething with murderous intent.

The experts of the other camps spoke up, one after another. Some tried to threaten Su Yi, while others tried to invite him to join their camp.

Su Yi just laughed it all off, took out a jug of wine, and said, “The full moon is radiant. It’s soothing to the heart and pleasant to the eyes. I’ll just ride it away first and leave the rest of you to it.”

With that, his soul shot into the air and into the battlefield.

“You think you can compete with all of us by yourself?” someone laughed. “You overestimate yourself!”

The others laughed coldly too. He’s either stupid or insane. Otherwise, how could he possibly boast so shamelessly?

“Scram!” When a man in black saw Su Yi approach, he unleashed a secret soul art. His soul manifested a streak of fire light and swept outward.

Su Yi didn’t even look at it. He just raised his hand and drew it through the air.

Boom!!

The firelight shattered, and the man’s soul was sent flying explosively backward. At a critical juncture, the power of the natural order surged forth, enveloped his soul, and carried it away. Otherwise, that strike would have destroyed his soul with ease!

“This…” The crowd was flabbergasted.

“If you don’t want to get disqualified, be good and step aside,” said Su Yi. He was already shooting toward the moon.

The other camps’ experts’ eyes flashed, but they stopped what they were doing and stepped aside, clearing a path.

The man in black had been defeated far too quickly. He didn’t just lose in a single hit, he was directly eliminated! Who wouldn’t have been startled after seeing that?

“Quick, attack together! Stop him!” roared the man in white. He’d almost seized control of the radiant moon; he was just one step away. If Su Yi ruined it, all of his hard work would go to nothing.

“Get him!” The man in white and his allies all attacked at once.

Su Yi couldn’t help but shake his head. He couldn’t even be bothered to attack. He just forged straight ahead.

Bang bang bang!

A series of rapid-fire explosions rang out. The experts’ souls were like mantises trying to block a chariot. All of them were sent flying on impact.

Desperate cries shook the heavens.

The experts of other camps couldn’t help but gasp. All of them were overcome with horror.

This unfamiliar young man was obviously a “dauntless dragon” with reason to be confident. His soul was so strong that it was downright unreasonable!

The man in white was unwittingly stunned. Even if you’d hit him over the head, he would never have guessed that the young man who’d only just reached the second floor would be this domineering. Su Yi had fought his way to him in the blink of an eye.

It was just too terrifying!

When the man in white saw Su Yi draw near, he stiffened. Just as he was about to do something, he saw that Su Yi had already seized hold of the radiant full moon.

The man in white was so angry that he almost coughed up blood. It hadn’t been easy to pull the moon in, yet now, someone had snatched it out of his grasp!

“Not convinced?” Su Yi held the moon aloft and looked at the man.

The moon wasn’t real; it was a manifestation of a formation. When Su Yi held it in his hand, its radiant light spread, making Su Yi seem all the more ethereal.

“I…” The man’s expression shifted, but in the end, he coughed dryly and smiled obsequiously. “I’m convinced! Who here wouldn’t be?”

He sighed with admiration. “Look, everyone! Our fellow Daoist’s magnificence makes even the radiant full moon seem dimmer by comparison! The likes of us are like grains of rice before the brilliance of the full moon. How could we possibly be worthy of competing with him?”

“…” The crowd didn’t know what to say. Just like that, you’re licking his boots?

This isn’t flattery; he’s just afraid I’ll disqualify him in a fit of rage. Su Yi laughed and shook his head. Then, without any further delays, he used the moon to support his body and fly into the nine heavens.

In the blink of an eye, he’d vanished.

The moon descended once more, then hung over the dome of heaven.

The crowd exchanged glances, but all of them sank into thought. A long time passed before they came back to their senses.

Su Yi had ridden away on the full moon. Only the frustrated remained behind!

……

Nine radiant suns hung over the third level, all of them fiery and bright.

They called this trial “Shooting the Suns.” Here, challengers had to use the power of their souls to shatter the blazing suns overhead, one by one.

This was the most difficult trial of all, and it worked a bit differently. No matter how many challengers were here, anyone who managed to shoot down a sun got to continue their challenge uninterrupted until they succeeded, gave up, or were eliminated. Others present could only watch helplessly from the sidelines, unable to participate.

When Su Yi arrived, he saw that only one of the original nine suns remained overhead!

The one who’d shot the suns was a young man in imperial robes. However, he hadn’t taken any further action since. It seemed he was waiting for something.

When Su Yi arrived, the young man in imperial robes said, “You’re finally here.”

Whoosh!

All eyes were instantly on Su Yi. They immediately realized what was going on.

The young man in imperial robes who’d shot down the first sun had rested for two hours because he was waiting for someone!

“Why were you waiting for me?” asked Su Yi, a bit surprised. He recognized the man in imperial robes as one of the nine experts his third incarnation had sent to defeat him.

“I wanted to tell you that I’ll be waiting for you on top.” The man in imperial robes gestured upward, then said calmly, “Whatever you do, don’t take too long here.”

With that, he used his soul as a bow and arrows and fired.

Bang!!

The ninth and final sun exploded, and a rain of light enveloped the young man in imperial robes, whisking him away. Soon, there was no trace of him.

There was no doubt about it. He’d overcome the second divine tower and reached its top!

“That fellow Daoist, Li Mu, had by far the most terrifying soul power I’ve ever seen at our level. It was simply overwhelming!”

“That’s right! He shot the first eight suns one by one, taking each down in a single hit. It was as easy as could be!”

“I can say with certainty that he broke the second tower’s record!”

The crowd immediately started discussing the situation. All of their faces were full of shock and admiration.

“Li Mu?” repeated Su Yi. Only now did he know what the man in imperial robes was called.

A moment later, he shook his head, not at all concerned. He didn’t even need to think to know that Li Mu was much like Jian Xingyun. The only difference was that Jian Xingyun was the mightiest Great Profound Stage body refiner of his epoch of origin, while Li Mu had the greatest soul power of any Great Profound Stage cultivator of his epoch of origin.

Alas, Su Yi had little interest in competing with Li Mu. He naturally couldn’t be bothered to pay much attention to him.

Boom!

The dome of heaven shook violently, and the nine blazing suns reappeared once more.

The challengers rubbed their hands together with anticipation. Now that Li Mu had left, they could finally compete!

But as soon as the nine blazing suns appeared… Clang!

The boundless humming of a sword rang out.

A streak of sword qi shot into the air. Immediately after, the crowd watched in astonishment as all nine suns crumbled into pieces.

A single slash had pierced nine suns!

The crowd felt as if they’d been struck by lightning. Their minds went completely blank. Just… just what kind of monster is this?

Even Li Mu had to shatter the suns one by one! Yet now, someone’s gone and destroyed all nine of them in a single slash!

It was just too astonishing. Who wouldn’t have been astonished?

“It’s him!”

Everyone instinctively looked toward the source of the slash. They quickly realized that it was the work of the young man in blue who’d only just arrived, the person Li Mu had been waiting for!

But before they could wrap their heads around it, the power of the natural order wrapped around Su Yi and whisked him off.

Yet another sea of chaos clouds lay at the top of the second tower. There was murky gray fog all over the place.

“I wouldn’t have guessed that Jian Xingyun would lose. It seems that Su Yi isn’t just some sword cultivator; he’s a terrifyingly powerful body refiner, too.” Li Mu, who’d only just arrived, muttered to himself. “I just wonder how strong his soul is.”

Su Yi’s voice suddenly resounded out of nowhere. “You won’t be any match for me either.”

Li Mu stiffened. A moment later, his eyes widened. He’s… here?! It’s barely been a moment!

“And I’m in no mood to spar with you,” continued Su Yi, drawing closer to Li Mu step by step.

Li Mu’s brow furrowed; he obviously disagreed.

“I know you aren’t convinced, but…” Su Yi raised and lowered his hand.

Boom!

Terrifying soul power bore down, instantly pinning Li Mu to the ground. His expression filled with utter astonishment and disbelief.

“…It doesn’t matter whether you’re convinced or not. You’ve already been eliminated.”

With that, Su Yi took out a jug and had a sip of wine.
