Chapter 2157 – Yang Shuang’er
Just moments prior, the experts of the Sky Fire Yao Sect had been drinking and making merry, perfectly content.
Barely any time had passed, but now, all of them had been reduced to ash.
How could the villagers possibly have seen such a thing before? All of them were overcome with shock and completely flustered.
The kneeling Xue Feng suddenly looked up and gazed intently into the distance.
The setting sun was as red as blood. Night was fast approaching.
Su Yi sat quietly in his wooden wheelchair, clad in beast skin robes and bathed by the light of dusk, looking just that mysterious.
A’Ling stood beside him, her brow furrowed and her beautiful face full of undisguisable astonishment. Not even she had anticipated that the Spirit-Slaughtering Sword Talisman would be so terrifying.
Li Changqing was relatively clear-headed, but when he looked at Su Yi, his gaze was complicated. He knew that A’Ling’s killer weapons were the work of this mysterious stranger!
“Later, if you’ve got some free time, come over for a chat,” said Su Yi.
Li Changqing shook from head to toe, then nodded. It really was time to lay all their cards out on the table!
……
Night fell, and the Demon Flame Purple Moon rose and hung over the sky as usual.
A’Ling’s house.
Li Changqing clasped his fist in greeting and cut right to the chase. “Forgive my boldness, but might I ask why you recognized the Little Star Soul Art?”
He’d already cleaned up today’s mess. He’d gathered the trophies the slain experts had left behind, removed the vestiges of battle, and warned the villagers not to leak word of anything that had happened.
Once he’d settled all that, he went straight to meet with Su Yi.
Su Yi was still seated in his wheelchair. He said unhurriedly, “That technique was the work of an old friend. His surname is Yi.”
Li Changqing’s heart shook, but it seemed that he finally understood. “No wonder, no wonder…”
“What about you?” asked Su Yi. “What’s your connection to the Yi Family?”
Li Changqing said gravely, “There’s no need to hide it. This old man’s family has served the Yi Family for generations!”
In major clans, guards, attendants, and other such servants were commonplace.
“And what about A’Ling?” asked Su Yi.
Li Changqing had a complicated look on his face. “You recognized the Little Star Soul Art. Surely you can tell who A’Ling is.”
Su Yi nodded. “Just as I thought.”
He finally dared say with certainty that A’Ling really was Yi Daoxuan’s descendant!
“This is my first time in the Billowing Blue Realm. I’m here in search of the descendants of the Yi Family, but I don’t understand the Yi Family’s current situation. I’m hoping that you can enlighten me,” said Su Yi.
Li Changqing mulled that over. “Again, forgive my boldness, but might you tell me your intentions first?”
Su Yi didn’t even pause to think. “I’m here to protect them on another’s behalf.”
This was Yi Daoxuan’s unrealized wish! Su Yi naturally wouldn’t remain a bystander.
Li Changqing fell briefly silent before launching into a lengthy explanation.
Time slipped by. As Li Changqing spoke, Su Yi finally started to understand some of what had happened to the Yi Family.
The Yi Family had taken up residence near the Demon Crow Mountains a long time ago. Back then, the Demon Crow Mountains were a blessed ground for cultivation, like an otherworldly pure land.
In accordance with their ancestral precepts, the Yi Family hid their identities and took on a pseudonym: Yang.
But as time passed and worldly affairs shifted, everything changed. The Laws of the Billowing Blue Realm changed, and the ambient aura of the Grand Dao grew increasingly unfavorable to human cultivators.
The Demon Crow Mountains, once an otherworldly pure land, were affected too. Their once ample spiritual power dried up.
After that, each generation of the Yi Family was inferior to the one before, and they increasingly failed to overcome their tribulations. Some lost themselves to obsession, while others were simply destroyed.
It wasn’t just the Yi Family. Every human cultivation faction in the Billowing Blue Realm faced a similar predicament.
Humans soon found themselves at the lowest rungs of the Billowing Blue Realm’s society, but over time, their situation only got worse and worse. In the end, most human factions collapsed, lost forever to the river of history.
The Yi Family declined, then withered altogether.
By then, the Demon Crow Mountains were a perilous wilderness brimming with ferocious beasts. Even the Yi Family estate was reduced to ruin due to a lack of spiritual energy.
The remaining Yi clansmen were left with no choice but to relocate.
But the Billowing Blue Realm already belonged to the yao and demons. Even just surviving proved to be an enormous challenge for the Yi Family.
Some factions of yao and demons even set their sights on the Yi Family’s treasures and legacies. In the end, they surrounded and plundered the Yi Family.
This catastrophe led to the dissolution of the entire clan and the deaths of almost all surviving clansmen!
By now, A’Ling was the only remaining descendant of the Yi Family still living at the foot of the Demon Crow Mountains. Even her parents had died several years ago!
When he learned the full story, Su Yi couldn’t help but sigh.
Time changed all things. Throughout the ages, the Yi Family had faced bloodshed and disasters both natural and manmade. This was what had led to their decline and ultimate demise.
“Are the factions that surrounded and attacked the Yi Family still around?” asked Su Yi.
“So much time has passed that only a few of them remain,” said Li Changqing. “But one of them still exists, and it’s even incomparably prosperous. In fact, it’s long since become one of the ruling factions of the Billowing Blue Realm!”
“What’s it called?”
“The Celestial Yao Mountains!” Li Changqing’s eyes filled with deep-seated dread. “There are countless factions of yao and demon cultivators in the Billowing Blue Realm, but only three truly reign supreme, and Celestial Yao Mountains are one of them!
“They say that its experts include over ten thousand yao immortals, as well as multiple yao gods!”
“Gods?” Su Yi’s eyes lit up.
If there were gods, that meant that the Billowing Blue Realm had cultivation resources suitable for a god’s cultivation!
“Once my wounds have recovered somewhat, I ought to pay them a visit,”Su Yi murmured.
Li Changqing jumped in fright and said hurriedly, “Fellow Daoist, please, speak cautiously! These are the Celestial Yao Mountains we’re talking about!!”
Su Yi chuckled, but he knew that any more such talk would only make Li Changqing more uncomfortable, and besides, he couldn’t be bothered to argue.
Instead, he changed the subject, and before long, he’d learned several new things.
First, after the Yi Family was surrounded and attacked, the survivors changed their surname to Yang and hid themselves in Grassy Creek Village.
Thus, A’Ling’s full name was Yang Ling’er.
Second, not even Li Changqing knew the origins of the blood-red sword qi that appeared in the Demon Crow Mountains from time to time.
But then, this was to be expected. So much had happened to the Yi Family over the years, and they’d practically been wiped out.
Surviving this long had been difficult enough already. Everything Li Changqing knew about the Yi Family had been passed down and pieced together by word of mouth.
A’Ling, meanwhile, still had no idea that she was a descendant of the Yi Family…
Third, A’Ling apparently had an older sister. Her name was Yang Shuang’er!
However, when Yang Shuang’er was just three years old, a passing yao immortal took her and left.
The yao immortal was visiting to explore the Demon Crow Mountains for good fortune. She passed through Grassy Creek Village and enlisted Yang Ling’er’s parents as guides.
When she returned to the village and saw the then-three-year-old Yang Shuang’er, she exclaimed over the girl’s natural talent and said she was a rare genius for cultivation. Thus, she asked to take Yang Shuang’er as her apprentice and teach her to cultivate.
Yang Shuang’er’s parents dared not refuse. They could only accept her offer.
Yang Shuang’er left the village with the immortal, and there’d been no word of her since.
“Then do you know the immortal’s name and sect of origin?” asked Su Yi.
Li Changqing shook his head. “She called herself Immortal Lady Cang Ning, but I have no idea of her origins. Over the years, I’ve visited Fire Cauldron City to investigate multiple times, but I’ve learned nothing at all.”
Su Yi’s brow furrowed. “How long ago was this?”
Li Changqing didn’t even need to pause to think. “Sixteen years ago.”
“Fortunately, that’s not too late,” said Su Yi, his eyes flashing. “So long as Yang Shuang’er is still alive, I can find her.”
Li Changqing’s spirits soared. “That would be absolutely wonderful! Ling’er knows she has an older sister, but she’s never laid eyes on her. It’s something she’s always regretted.”
They chatted a while longer before Li Changqing bade farewell and left.
Su Yi hadn’t gained all that much from tonight’s conversation, but he’d finally at least gotten some sense of the situation.
The River Lord was right to warn me. Both Li Fuyou and Yi Daoxuan’s memories of the God Domain are out of date. So much time has passed that the world is no longer as they remembered…
The passage of time was heartless, and it changed far too much.
Li Fuyou had reincarnated several hundred thousand years ago. Yi Daoxuan had reincarnated even earlier than that. At least eight hundred thousand years had passed since he’d entered the cycle of reincarnation!
After all that time, the God Domain had changed completely.
Fortunately, despite the passage of countless years, some things, and some people, hadn’t changed!
“Big Brother Xiao.” A’Ling entered the room. It looked like she had a lot on her mind. She opened her mouth to speak, then hesitated.
“Do you feel like you’ve experienced far too much between last night and now, and that it’s difficult to adjust to it all?” Su Yi asked warmly.
“Mm!” The young woman nodded.
Last night, she’d carried Su Yi into the Demon Crow Mountains, witnessed something unbelievable, and even broken into the Profound Dao.
And today, she’d slain numerous prominent experts of the Sky Fire Yao Sect.
All of this came as an enormous shock.
“That’s growth,” said Su Yi, his gaze gentle. “Everyone has to grow. Now that you’ve experienced this, you won’t be so nervous next time.”
The young woman froze, a bit stunned. She couldn’t help but ask. “Big Brother Xiao, there’s something I’ve never understood. Why… are you so good to me?”
