Chapter 1088: 1087 for your freedom

Ten minutes later, Bai Yiyi and Wen Jin brought the two babies back to the nursery.

Although the babies were premature, they were developing healthily and didn’t need the aid of an incubator.

After they left, Wen Ran asked Mo Xiuchen, “Mo Xiuchen, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you?”

Mo Xiuchen did not expect her to ask this. His deep eyes flickered, and with a guise of a smile, he said, “Ranran, I’m not hungry.”

Wen Ran pursed her lips and said softly, “You go eat. I want to sleep a bit more.”

“Alright, you sleep a bit more.”

Mo Xiuchen nodded smilingly, his slender fingers gently brushing the stray hairs on her forehead, “I’ll wait for you to sleep, then I’ll get something to eat.”

Ranran had just come out of surgery and couldn’t eat anything at the moment.

If he said he would wait to eat until Ranran could eat, Ranran would surely be upset.

Thinking of this, Mo Xiuchen quickly added, “I want to stay with you. You sleep, and I’ll have Little Liu bring me some food to the hospital.”

“Mo Xiuchen, aren’t you going home tonight?”

Wen Ran had just closed her eyes, but upon hearing him say that, she opened them again.

If it were any other hospital, it would be normal to have a family member stay overnight, but this hospital was owned by her family. Her father had everything arranged. Mo Xiuchen didn’t need to stay the night here.

He had been on a business trip since this morning and rushed back in the afternoon. In Wen Ran’s eyes, that was already strenuous enough.

“Yes, I’m not going back. I can’t rest easy with someone else taking care of you.” Mo Xiuchen knew what she was about to say, and before she could speak, he cut her off.

Wen Ran found the words she was about to say stuck in her throat, unable to be voiced.

Looking at Mo Xiuchen’s eyes filled with tenderness and affection, Wen Ran felt that any words she might say would be superfluous apart from being touched.

“Alright then, hurry up and call Little Liu to bring your dinner here.”

“You sleep, I’ll make the call.”

Mo Xiuchen leaned in and kissed her forehead, then pulled out his phone to make the call.

“Hmm.”

Wen Ran hummed softly and truly closed her eyes to sleep this time.

When Mo Xiuchen saw that Wen Ran had closed her eyes to sleep, he stepped out of the ward to make the call outside.

Just as he stepped out of the ward and let the special nursing assistant in to stay with Wen Ran, he saw Wen Jin and Luo Haofeng approaching from the other end of the corridor. His brows furrowed, and before Little Liu could answer the phone, he pressed to hang up.

“Mo Xiuchen, I literally walked back from the airport,” said Luo Haofeng with a pitiful look, his face bearing a faint weariness. His walking just moments ago was still with a limp.

“Is your foot completely healed?” asked Mo Xiuchen, his gaze coldly sweeping over Luo Haofeng’s foot. Luo Haofeng’s mouth twitched, and he quickly shook his head: “No, it hurt even more walking back just now. Ah Jin said I have to go get an X-ray later.”

He had injured his foot before and, even though he had been hospitalized for a few months, it hadn’t fully recovered.

“It would be better if it got worse.”

Hearing him say this, Mo Xiuchen’s handsome face grew even more somber, his words devoid of emotion.

“Mo Xiuchen, I know that what happened this afternoon was my mother’s fault. She caused Ranran to deliver prematurely. I don’t expect you to forgive her, I just hope you won’t take your anger out on me,” Luo Haofeng pleaded.

Mo Xiuchen didn’t answer him; he was very upset.

“Where is your mother?”

Mo Xiuchen looked at him with a steely gaze. Not asking for forgiveness—he knew that was impossible. He could never forgive his mother.

For the person who hurt him, he wasn’t as enraged as he was for the person who had harmed Ranran. Luo Haofeng’s mother knew perfectly well that Ranran was pregnant, yet she dared to push her—wasn’t that intentional murder?

Luo Haofeng’s expression shifted slightly and he said stiffly, “My mom has gone back to the hotel, Mo Xiuchen, do you want to find her right now?”

“Of course. If she goes back to City B tonight, how will I settle accounts with her?” Mo Xiuchen glared at him.

“I’ll take you there,” Luo Haofeng nodded. He knew that if he didn’t let Mo Xiuchen vent, he feared that the man would never pay him any heed.

Regardless of whether his mother had intentionally pushed Wen Ran or not, she had pushed her. She even caused Wen Ran to have a premature birth, putting her life in danger at that moment.

No one dared tell Mo Xiuchen these things; they all told him that Wen Ran was doing very well.

Mo Xiuchen didn’t know that, on the operating table, his Ranran had been on the verge of death. He almost lost the chance to see her again.

“Ah Jin, are you going?” Luo Haofeng turned to ask Wen Jin, hoping that with one more person, Mo Xiuchen would be more rational.

Wen Jin glanced at the ward and asked quietly, “Is Ranran asleep?”

“Yes, Ranran is asleep.” The mention of ‘Ranran’ immediately softened Mo Xiuchen’s tone, and the anger in his brows seemed to recede.

“You haven’t had dinner yet. Go eat first, and then it’s not too late to go to the hotel,” Wen Jin said with concern in his voice.

Although he found Mo Xiuchen rather disagreeable, who could fault him—he was Ranran’s husband, as well as the father of his niece and nephew.

If he fell ill from hunger, the one who would be distressed would be Ranran.

“I’ll go to the hotel first. I want to be back at the hospital when Ranran wakes up,” Mo Xiuchen’s deep eyes fixed on the door of Ranran’s hospital room. Through the door, he seemed to see the woman lying on the bed, and a tender softness spread in his eyes.

“Fine, go to the hotel then. You can get something to take out and eat later,” Wen Jin shrugged his shoulders, unable to persuade him any further and too lethargic to try.

“Are you a pig? Don’t you know how to take a taxi back?” As they exited the elevator, Mo Xiuchen’s gaze swept coldly toward Luo Haofeng’s feet, noticing his limping walk. His eyebrows suddenly knitted together, his tone chilling and sarcastic.

Wen Jin turned his head to look at Luo Haofeng but didn’t join in the conversation.

Luo Haofeng explained with a tinge of grievance, “I didn’t bring my cellphone or wallet. Thinking that you were angry with me, I decided to punish myself by walking back.”

“Are you trying to atone for your mother’s sins?” Mo Xiuchen narrowed his eyes, his gaze piercing as he looked at Luo Haofeng.

Luo Haofeng was taken aback, petrified by the accusation, “Mo Xiuchen, you are not really going to sue my mom, are you? She didn’t do it on purpose, you know.”

“I won’t sue her,” Mo Xiuchen said in a low voice. “Aren’t you looking to completely cut ties with Qi Meiling? Now, I’m giving you a chance—use Ranran’s injury to gain your freedom.”

“Mo Xiuchen.” Luo Haofeng stared at him in shock.

A surge of complicated emotions passed through his eyes. He called out, yet he didn’t know what else to say.

“This is the best opportunity. Even if your mother doesn’t feel guilty, she still feels uneasy. Even though Ranran is alright, she shouldn’t suffer for nothing. Do you still feel the same about Bai Xiaoxiao as you did before?” Mo Xiuchen stopped walking, his tall and upright figure standing in the lobby of the first floor, his deep eyes sharply fixing on Luo Haofeng.

The one who had injured Ranran was his mother, but the man in front of him was a friend of many years, a brother as close as his own flesh and blood.

He had thought it through, and the best way was to take this opportunity to free him from Qi Meiling. If he still cared for Bai Xiaoxiao, then it would be as if Ranran had used her own injury to repay the kindness Bai Xiaoxiao had shown by pushing her away and getting hit by a car herself.
