Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict
Chapter 1097: 1096 As long as Momo is doing wellChapter 1097: 1096 As long as Momo is doing well
“I’ve ended things with her.”
Gu Kai’s handsome face darkened as he spoke coldly.
Bai Yiyi was startled and looked up at him, meeting his eyes brimming with indignation. Her own eyes flickered, “Why? Weren’t you and Miss Fang doing well?”
“Bai Yiyi, are you really unaware, or are you pretending not to know, just to mock me?”
Gu Kai was actually annoyed, and Bai Yiyi, baffled, pursed her lips. This guy must be crazy, she thought, as she turned around with Ziyi in her arms and walked away.
He was now angry because Momo was missing, and she didn’t want to become collateral damage.
Gu Kai watched the retreating figure of Bai Yiyi, his already somber features growing even more gloomy.
Bai Yiyi stopped outside the hospital room. She glanced through the glass window before opening the door and cheerfully said to Wen Ran, “Ranran, I’ve brought Ziyi here.”
Hearing her voice, Mo Xiuchen let go of Wen Ran and walked over to take Ziyi from her arms. He went back to the bedside, showing her, “Ranran, Ziyi has fallen asleep.”
“Let me hold him.”
Wen Ran wiped away tears, her voice thick with sorrow.
“Okay.” Mo Xiuchen passed Ziyi to her. When he had gotten out of bed earlier after that call, his wound had reopened, and now, holding Ziyi, a sharp pain seared through his abdomen.
“Ranran, if the wound hurts, don’t hold him.”
Mo Xiuchen saw Wen Ran furrowing her brows and, feeling pity, wanted to take Ziyi back.
Wen Ran clenched her teeth and shook her head, “It’s okay.”
She leaned back against the raised bed head, enduring the pain in her abdomen, holding Ziyi tightly.
Looking at him, she thought of Momo. The pain in her body was quickly replaced by heartache.
She raised her eyes to the ceiling and told herself not to cry, not to cry. But the sorrow in her heart was like a ferocious wave, savagely pounding every nerve ending, making her unbearably pained.
“Ranran, let me have a look at your phone.”
Mo Xiuchen noticed Wen Ran holding Ziyi, and recalled that she had just answered a call.
Wen Ran nodded, and he picked up her phone, checking the call log. When he saw that numberless call, he asked softly, “Was the person who called you male or female?”
“It was a man. Right as I answered, he warned me not to call the police or look into it.”
Wen Ran repeated the caller’s words to Mo Xiuchen.
He furrowed his brows, deep in thought.
“Mo Xiuchen, tell me, who could have taken Momo? Was it for money, or something else?”
Wen Ran held Ziyi tightly, her tearful eyes looking at Mo Xiuchen.
Mo Xiuchen was taken aback, and after a moment, analyzed calmly, “The person who called you only warned you not to call the police or investigate; they didn’t ask for money.”
“So, they’re not after money. Could it be hatred then?”
Wen Ran’s heart skipped a beat.
If it was hatred, who could it be, “Could it still be the person who wanted to hit me last time, instructed by Liao Dongxing?”
“Ranran, we can’t rule out that possibility. I’ve already called Ah Mu and asked him to get his father to check if Liao Dongxing has shown any suspicious behavior. We don’t have any evidence right now; we can’t be sure it’s him.”
Wen Ran pursed her lips tightly, her voice choked with emotion, “I just hope that Momo is alright. No matter who took her or what their motive is, as long as she is fine, I don’t care about anything else.”
From the day she became pregnant, Momo and Ziyi had been her treasures. In Wen Ran’s eyes, they were more important than her own life.
This, perhaps, is the greatness of maternal love.
Mo Xiuchen listened to Wen Ran’s words, feeling as if an invisible hand was gripping his heart fiercely. The pain was so intense that even he, a grown man, couldn’t help but have his eyes moisten.
But he had to be strong. He had not only to take care of Ziyi and Ranran but also to find Momo.
He couldn’t let Momo suffer as much as Ranran did back then, nor could he allow Ranran to endure the same suffering as her mother…
His hands, dangling by his sides, unconsciously clenched into fists. Soft sounds came from the direction of the door; it was Gu Kai pushing in a baby cot. Seeing Wen Ran holding Ziyi, his brows furrowed immediately, “Mo Xiuchen, Ranran shouldn’t exert herself. What if she tears her wound open again?”
Wen Ran was lovingly kissing Ziyi’s cheeks. Hearing Gu Kai’s words, she looked up at him, then lowered her head again, without a word.
A trace of hesitation flickered in Mo Xiuchen’s eyes. Ranran was saddened and troubled by Momo’s disappearance. If she wasn’t allowed to hold Ziyi, her emotions would never calm down.
How could he not notice that she had just now paled with pain, biting her teeth and enduring it?
But that was better than the pain in her heart.
Bai Yiyi glared fiercely at Gu Kai, signaling him not to talk too much, to discuss it outside, and then she herself turned and left the hospital room.
Gu Kai placed the baby cot next to Wen Ran’s hospital bed and whispered, “Ranran, starting tonight, Ziyi will sleep here in the hospital room with you.”
“Ranran, Ziyi is asleep now, let him sleep in the cot.”
Mo Xiuchen stretched out his hand with a gentle smile toward Wen Ran, his gaze filled with tender affection. In such moments, he needed to be extra kind to Ranran.
To let her feel warmth and love, so that the sadness in her heart could be somewhat eased.
Outside the hospital room, Qing Feng and Qing Yang hurried over. Once out of the room, Gu Kai instructed them with an order, then quickly caught up with Bai Yiyi.
In the hospital room, Wen Ran held Ziyi with reluctance, her eyes as watery and crystal-clear as to make one’s heart ache.
“Ranran, give Ziyi to me, you can still watch him.”
Mo Xiuchen maintained a gentle smile, his voice warm and calm.
Though reluctant, Wen Ran still handed Ziyi to Mo Xiuchen under his tender gaze, watching him place the baby in the cot, her eyes never blinking as she watched him.
“Ranran, do you want to sleep for a bit too? That way, when Ziyi wakes up, you’ll be ready to be with him.”
Mo Xiuchen covered Ziyi with a small blanket and raised his eyes to ask gently.
“I won’t sleep.” Wen Ran’s gaze stayed on Ziyi, without looking up.
In the hallway, Bai Yiyi said to Wen Jin that staying here wouldn’t help; she needed to go back and see Tongtong.
“How are you going to get back?”
Wen Jin’s brows furrowed. She had come in his car.
“I’ll take a taxi.” Bai Yiyi smiled faintly, saying calmly, “You go see Ranran. If I get back too late, Tongtong will cry.”
Tongtong was accustomed to waiting for her at the entrance of the neighborhood around the time she was supposed to come home.
Wen Jin hadn’t seen Ranran yet; he couldn’t take Bai Yiyi back now, so he didn’t hold her back and let her leave.
“I got a gift for Tongtong while I was on a business trip abroad; I haven’t given it to her yet. I’ll take you back.”
After Wen Jin left, Gu Kai dropped a line and strode toward the elevator.
Bai Yiyi was slightly taken aback. It was only when Gu Kai reached the elevator doors and looked back to hurry her that she realized that he had been speaking to her, even offering her a ride.
She pursed her lips, hesitating slightly before stepping forward.
