Chapter 1108: 1107 hurting him is like hurting oneself

A trace of pain flashed through Mo Xiuchen’s eyes. He nodded, turned around silently, and step by step walked out of the ward.

Wen Ran didn’t even bother with Gu Kai, her face cold, her eyes melancholically watching Mo Xiuchen as he walked towards the door. The once resolute figure now appeared lonely and forlorn.

“Ranran, Momo is missing, Mo Xiuchen is just as upset as you are. It’s not right to act this way,” Gu Kai pursed his lips and calmly said.

Bai Yiyi’s expression slightly changed. Before Wen Ran could speak, Bai Yiyi stepped forward, pushed Gu Kai towards the door, and angrily said, “Who is your sister? How could you side with Mo Xiuchen and blame Ranran? You smell like tobacco as well. Get out, get out.”

“What are you on about, Bai Yiyi?”

Gu Kai tried to push Bai Yiyi away.

Bai Yiyi fiercely twisted his arm, and not satisfied by it, she glared at him hatefully. Gu Kai paused, forgot to struggle, and forgot to push her away, and she pushed him out of the ward just like that.

In the hallway, Mo Xiuchen was instructing Qing Feng and the special nursing assistant.

Seeing that he had finished giving instructions, he turned and headed towards the elevator. Gu Kai, startled, quickly followed him. “Mo Xiuchen, where are you going?”

He finally caught up with Mo Xiuchen at the elevator doors.

The elevator arrived, Mo Xiuchen entered, and Gu Kai followed, pressing urgently, “Mo Xiuchen, where are you going? Ranran is just upset that’s why she’s angry. You aren’t angry too, are you?”

He hadn’t seemed angry back in the ward, having a look of injury rather than anger, which was even harder to bear.

Mo Xiuchen’s expression was calm, but his stern facial features exuded depression. “I’m going to find Lu Zhiyan and rescue Momo.”

“You’re leaving without even telling Ranran?”

Gu Kai incredulously looked at Mo Xiuchen. He couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t say a word to Ranran.

“Ranran doesn’t want to see me, so I won’t tell her. Ah Kai, these next few days you should schedule fewer surgeries, spend more time with Ranran, and take good care of her and Ziyi for me.”

Mo Xiuchen’s words caused Gu Kai to frown. “What do you mean? Are you saying you won’t come to the hospital for a few days?”

“Yes, Ranran doesn’t want to see me, and I don’t want to see her either.”

A hint of bitterness appeared on Mo Xiuchen’s lips; he had deliberately smoked earlier.

He knew full well that Ranran had answered that phone call and wanted to divorce him. And he, wanting to take her phone and answer it the next time that person called, asked Gu Kai for a cigarette after more than a year without smoking, then went to the adjacent ward, carrying the pungent smell of tobacco on him, creating a pretext for Wen Ran to get angry.

And that gave him the perfect reason to leave.

“Mo Xiuchen, did you smoke on purpose earlier?” Gu Kai’s brain raced, and Mo Yu’s sharp gaze fixed on Mo Xiuchen.

The elevator quickly reached the first floor; with a ding, the doors opened.

Mo Xiuchen walked out of the elevator, Gu Kai followed him, and side by side they went to the parking garage. He continued from where he had left off: “Did you know letting Ranran get angry at you would justify your leaving to rescue Momo? No, you’re afraid of Ranran seeing you and asking for a divorce.”

Mo Xiuchen didn’t respond but as he pulled open the car door and before sitting inside, he reminded him again, “Ah Kai, you must take good care of Ranran and Ziyi.”

“Hey, you can’t avoid Ranran like this.”

Gu Kai’s words were drowned out by the sound of the car door closing. Mo Xiuchen got into the car, fastened his seatbelt quickly, started the vehicle, reversed, and hit the road, disappearing into the distance.

Gu Kai stood erect in the parking lot, his eyes still watching the direction in which Mo Xiuchen’s Aston vanished. He frowned deeply, his thin lips pressed into a firm, cold line.

**

In the ward.

Wen Ran maintained the same posture, the same expression, staring unwaveringly towards the door.

Her numbed heart still throbbed with sharp pain.

The grievances and loneliness of Mo Xiuchen lingered in her mind, refusing to dissipate.

Bai Yiyi spoke with a heavy heart, “Ranran, if you can’t bear it, let’s not continue. We can think of another way, there must be one.”

She knew, Wen Ran wanted not only to divorce Mo Xiuchen but also to make him give up on her completely.

For him to give up, the love Mo Xiuchen had for her had to fade bit by bit.

But how could such deep love ever fade?

Wen Ran didn’t know what to do, while Bai Yiyi couldn’t help but feel saddened by this problem. Wen Ran’s recent attitude towards Mo Xiuchen didn’t surprise Gu Kai, but it did not surprise her either.

She was just sad that while Wen Ran was hurting Mo Xiuchen, she was also hurting herself.

Even more so, if she hurt Mo Xiuchen a bit, she herself would feel the pain tenfold, since she had to sympathize with him and hurt from her own pain.

To make Mo Xiuchen give up on her, they would have to be both left battered and bruised. It had to be said, whoever wanted to break Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran up was ruthlessly determined.

Wen Ran lifted her head to look at the ceiling, forcefully holding back the tears in her eyes, and said each word slowly, coldly, and firmly, “For Momo, there’s nothing I can’t bear.”

Originally, when Mo Xiuchen lost his memory, Cheng Jia on the phone forced her to swear an oath, and all she thought was, as long as Mo Xiuchen could survive, whether or not he was by her side didn’t matter.

She could handle it then, and she could handle it now.

For Momo, for the daughter she and Mo Xiuchen had together, she was willing to break up with him.

Actually, what she told Bai Yiyi had reservations. The person on the phone had wanted to see her embroiled in a scandal with another man, but she only mentioned that the other party wanted Mo Xiuchen to lose hope.

Though the meaning was the same, the words were different.

The phone rang, interrupting what Bai Yiyi was about to say. She pulled out her phone, quickly turned the ringtone down to the lowest, stood up, and said, “Ranran, I’m going to step out to take a call.”

“Go ahead.”

Wen Ran nodded lightly.

She wanted to be alone in quiet as well.

Bai Yiyi hurriedly walked out of the hospital room towards the corridor, heading towards Gu Kai, who was standing in the resting area.

“What’s the matter?”

Bai Yiyi stopped two steps away from Gu Kai, her gaze faint as she looked at him, her tone carrying a hint of indifference.

Gu Kai narrowed his eyes displeased, “I asked you to persuade Ranran. How did you persuade her? The way she spoke to Mo Xiuchen just now, has she made up her mind to divorce him?”

Bai Yiyi glared at him, “Since you already know, why blame Ranran? Do you think she feels good about doing this?”

“I know she feels bad, that’s why I’m trying to stop her, hoping she won’t hurt herself,” Gu Kai explained stiffly. Even though his own sister hadn’t grown up with him, his understanding of her had grown over the past few years.

Bai Yiyi furrowed her brows and shifted the topic, “What about Mo Xiuchen? How come he isn’t with you?”

“He left.”

“Left? Mo Xiuchen wouldn’t have gotten mad just because of what Ranran said, right?” Bai Yiyi looked at Gu Kai puzzled. Mo Xiuchen wasn’t such a petty person!
