Mo Xiuchen nodded, “Okay, I’ll have someone bring that child over now, so she can be discharged with us tomorrow.”
The baby girl, though abandoned by her parents, was a healthy infant.
She was born three days earlier than Momo and Ziyi. Now that they had adopted her, she would be Momo’s and Ziyi’s older sister.
Mo Xiuchen walked to the door, opened it, and asked Qing Feng outside to bring the baby girl over. He then returned to the room to play with Momo and Ziyi.
“Ranran, are you hungry? I’ll have some food delivered,”
Mo Xiuchen dangled a rattle in front of Momo and Ziyi, entertaining them, and looked up at Wen Ran with a gentle voice, asking.
Wen Ran shook her head, “Not hungry. I ate a lot for lunch, so I’ll eat in the evening.”
“If you’re hungry, just tell me. You mustn’t endure it.” Mo Xiuchen instructed with concern. Ranran was eating for three, soon to be four, after all. If she didn’t eat enough, where would the milk come to feed the babies?
The babies were still small and ate little. Even with Momo and Ziyi, there was always some leftovers. Thus, Wen Ran had Mo Xiuchen bring the other child over so she could feed them together.
When they’re older, if breast milk was not enough, they could all have formula milk together.

Bai Yiyi had intended to find someone to replace her and deliver the medicine to Gu Kai at the hospital, but remembering her call to Ranran in the morning and saying she’d visit her in the afternoon, she ended up going to the hospital herself.
She had called Wen Ran that morning before going to work.
At noon, after her mother returned, she then went to work at the pharmaceutical plant, so she didn’t go to the hospital in the afternoon.
The factory driver dropped Bai Yiyi off at the hospital. As she got out, she subconsciously looked up, not glancing at the Kangning Hospital sign, her mind uncontrollably stirring with annoyance at the memory of Gu Kai’s words in D Country that day.
She pressed her lips tightly together before taking steps toward the hospital’s main entrance.
As she reached the entrance, not yet pushing the door open, her phone in her bag started ringing.
Stopping, Bai Yiyi pulled out her phone, her brows lightly furrowed as she saw the caller ID, and pressed the answer button with her delicate fingers, her voice calm, “Hello?”
“Ah Jin said it was you who was bringing the medicine to the hospital. Have you arrived?” The voice on the phone was Gu Kai’s.
“I’ve arrived. I’m already inside the hospital, almost at your office.” Gu Kai’s tone was not exactly polite, let alone gentle, thus Bai Yiyi dropped all pretense of tenderness in her response, her voice carrying three parts coldness and two parts displeasure.
“Hurry up, I’m waiting in my office for you.”
After saying that, Gu Kai hung up.
Bai Yiyi pursed her lips at the phone. What was he being so uptight about? Is being a doctor such a big deal?
If Gu Kai hadn’t rushed her, she might have been quicker, but irritation slowed her down, and she deliberately chose the stairs over the elevator.
She usually enjoyed physical activities, and climbing ten or more flights of stairs was not an issue.
Besides, she was climbing leisurely, not rushing up, and the thought of Gu Kai waiting impatiently made her irritation gradually dissipate.
By the time she reached Gu Kai’s cardiology department and came out, she saw Gu Kai waiting outside his office, his handsome features shadowed in the relatively dim corridor.
Despite being about ten meters away, Bai Yiyi could clearly see the sullenness and impatience between his brows.
Her eyes flickered, then she glanced back over her shoulder, pursed her lips, and started walking towards him with steady steps.
“Did you take the stairs up?”
Bai Yiyi was still a few steps away from Gu Kai when his voice, deep and resonant, echoed in the corridor, his dark eyes sharply fixing on her.
“Um, I get dizzy in elevators.”
Bai Yiyi maintained an indifferent expression and spoke calmly, lying as convincingly as if it were the truth.
However, as soon as her words dropped, Gu Kai still let out a mocking laugh. His tall figure stood still, simply extending his hand toward her, “Give me the medicine.”
Bai Yiyi rolled her eyes and silently handed over the bag, then turned to leave.
“Wait a moment.”
She had barely taken a step when Gu Kai’s voice came from behind her.
Bai Yiyi stopped, her back to him, and asked coldly, “What now?”
“Next Wednesday is my day off. By then, I’ll go and change Tongtong’s surname. Take the day off in advance; don’t go to work that day.”
Gu Kai’s words were not a discussion but a notification, carrying the unique overbearing tone that particularly irked Bai Yiyi.
She turned around, meeting his expressionless face with a cold gaze just two steps away, inwardly sneering before replying icily, “I’ve recently taken a lot of leaves, it’s inconvenient for me to ask for more. Let’s do it on the weekend.”
If Gu Kai had spoken to her nicely, she might have cooperated with him.
The more he spoke with that arrogant tone as if he were some lord talking down to her, the more the rebellious streak within her wanted to fight back.
“Weekend?” Gu Kai’s lips curled mockingly, regarding Bai Yiyi with a glance reserved for idiots, “Bai Yiyi, are you an idiot? Don’t you know that the office isn’t open on the weekends?”
Bai Yiyi choked on his words, a flash of embarrassment crossing her face, before she quickly raised her chin to meet Gu Kai’s derisive gaze head-on, retorting, “You’re the idiot. Who says the police station is closed on weekends? They have people on duty 24 hours a day.”
“All right, 24-hour duty it is, then. I’ll finish my shift tonight, and we’ll go together,” said Gu Kai, his tone shifting to amusement, “And if no one is there to handle our request, remember to compensate me for my loss.”
“What loss?”
Bai Yiyi blinked in confusion.
“Wasting my time is the same as hindering me from saving lives.” He glanced at his wristwatch with a frown, then said in a deep voice, “Remember, wait for me at the hospital entrance at ten o’clock tonight.”
With that said, he passed her by and strode toward the elevator.
“…Lunatic, I’d have to be an idiot to wait for you this late at night.”
Bai Yiyi made a face at Gu Kai’s departing figure. She was now certain that her enmity with this man predated their current lives, and it wasn’t just due to the grievances of the older generation.
Otherwise, how could she be friends with Ranran, even Mo Xiuchen and Wen Jin treated her with kindness, but this detestable Gu Kai, as soon as he saw her, was never normal unless he was being sarcastic, mocking, or looking like he had murder in his eyes.
It wasn’t until Gu Kai’s figure had disappeared around the corner of the corridor that Bai Yiyi took a deep breath and then went upstairs to find Wen Ran.
**
When Bai Yiyi arrived in the ward, Qing Feng had just brought back the baby girl.
Looking at Momo and Ziyi in the baby bed, Bai Yiyi’s gaze settled on the infant in Wen Ran’s arms and she asked gently, “Ranran, is this the child that was previously used as Momo’s substitute?”
Wen Ran nodded, speaking softly, “Yes, Xiuchen and I are planning to adopt her.”
Bai Yiyi turned to look at Mo Xiuchen, who was crouching in front of the baby bed, joyfully playing with his son and daughter, and said with a smile, “I just heard from President Wen that you’re adopting this child.”
“My brother knows?”
A trace of bewilderment flickered through Wen Ran’s eyes; she wasn’t aware that Mo Xiuchen had already told Wen Jin.
