Genetic Ascension

Chapter 794: Impossible (2)

Lorien took a breath and exhaled slowly.

Looking at Sylas now, she realized that if she wanted to win this, it seemed that she would have to show much more of her abilities. If not… it would all be lost.

Her aura changed, and the obscuring lights around her faded somewhat. From a seductive woman ready to open her legs to the highest bidder, she became eerily calm, calculating, sharp.

And yet, there was a calming effect to her gaze. On the one hand, it seemed there only to lull one into a false sense of security. But on the other, it was like she was a loving wife, a silent head of the household who might have stood to her husband's back, but would likewise decide all the most important matters.

All of these thoughts flashed in Sylas' head one after another before Lorien's mist coated her body.

Laws pooled in from the surroundings, spontaneously forming Runes.

This wasn't something that a mere Flesh Master should be capable of. This was certainly a level beyond Rune Soul, but it was also clear that this wasn't Lorien's true Rune Mastery level. Instead, it was because of this pink mist that she was capable of displaying might of a Rune Master far beyond her level.

And then she moved.

Her arm sharpened into a scythe of pink mist, slashing out at Sylas. Runes bloomed along its edge, shimmering, reflective lights akin to rays bouncing from the surface of metal echoed across it.

The danger signs in Sylas' mind rose to another level and the situation changed once more.

Most had believed it was over the moment Sylas brought out a Rune Armor. But none could have possibly expected that Lorien was capable of such a thing.

Sylas took a step back, barely dodging, but it was too clumsy.

He was used to having perfect control of his body. For every step of his journey along the way, he had. But right now, his body wasn't here, it was just his mind.

And it made Sylas realize not only just how much of a crutch had always been for him, but it also made him painfully aware of his weaknesses.

His mind was powerful, but just how well could he control it?

He felt like a wobbling toddler compared to his true self.

Of course, that was nothing more than comparison being the robbery of all joy. To the people in the outside world, Sylas' dodge was crisp and well-timed. Only he felt just how much wasted movement there was, and just how much of a drain it was if he were to continue like this.

'This is what is lacking…'

Sylas' eyes began to glow, and for a moment, a solid Will connection formed between his avatar and his real body.

The space between himself and Lorien's avatar shook as lines of pressure took shape.

Lorien's avatar faltered and her heart did flips inside of her chest.

'Impossible!'

But Sylas had already taken a step past the second swing of her scythe, driving a fist right across her face and sending her sprawling to the side.

Mospheral's eyes were practically bulging out of their sockets.

Those lines of pressure, there was no doubt about it. Those Runes were part of the Thryskai's Rune Armor. They were only there in part, and they were far from the completed version, but how in the hell had this Human gotten his hands on it?! Ŗ₳ΝO͍ᛒЁᶊ

The potency of the Will pressuring Runes was doubly as effective in the Rune Avatar Scape. Even the likes of Lorien's pink mist couldn't stop it, and Sylas pressed his advantage.

He might not be able to control his body as well as he wanted to, but his battle experience was still there. Echoes of his Mixed Martial Arts Comprehension flowed through his body, and though he wasn't capable of activating it in whole in this Scape, because it had Will aspects to it as well, it wasn't completely suppressed.

Not in the slightest.

He began to adapt, his motions becoming more fluid, more seamless.

Lorien flipped through the air, landing on her feet. Her pink mist spread into a pair of wings on her back that gathered up a large number of Wind-related Foundations.

They flapped once and she closed the distance once again, her leg whipping out at Sylas' head.

Sylas blocked with a forearm, taking a strong step forward and forcing Lorien's avatar's leg to split in the skies. Then, his leg struck out at her planted foot, sharp and fast.

Lorien's hip twisted, her wings flapping again and she twirled in the air, dodging out of the attack and cutting down with a heel kick in the same fluid motion.

Sylas anticipated it well, his tail jetting out and blocked the blow. It snaked up Lorien's leg, tightening and then lifting her high into the air.

Strong gusts of wind formed in the surroundings as Lorien fought back against a slam toward the ground. But she lost out.

BANG!

The air was knocked out of Lorien's avatar. But because it was just a soul, it instead felt like her mind had blanked out for just a moment. When she came to, it was just in time to see a heel cracking down toward her head in a streak of dark violet.

Her gaze flashed and her pink mist flared. There was a flicker of silvery light and then she vanished.

Sylas' foot crashed against the ground and he felt a sharp pain to his back. He hadn't been able to change his position quickly enough, his control still lacking. And this time, he suffered for it.

He felt a fissure in his armor and as he stumbled forward, but Lorien's rain of attacks was far from over.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

She gained a small upper hand and didn't let it go, a barrage of fists, kicks, blades, assorted with a myriad of Runes raining down in an unequal bombardment.
