GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2102 - 2102: Power Assessment vs Spirit Sense.

The spirit sense technique is poorer than the Power Assessment technique in its ability to collect information. It can be said to be a pale imitation.

The Power Assessment technique would have caused his spiritual energy to wash over the man and collect information about his state of existence the same way they collected information about their own existence.

So he will know about the man’s physical and spiritual condition. This information will be accurate too.

The caveat is that the power assessment technique can be sensed by the target. After all, it is their body that is being scanned. Only godclads with poor perception won’t notice the usage of the ability.

But travelers have a very high perception. They need it to sense their environment when they are running and to sense danger so that they can start running. before the danger arrives.

However, the spirit-sense technique is noninvasive. This technique only enhances the eye to collect and analyze the information that every being emits passively.

So the spirit-sense technique is a passive perception technique that doesn’t affect the target. It is unlikely to be sensed when used as opposed to the active inquisition of information of the power assessment technique.

After using the ability, the world in Legion changed drastically. The world darkened more than usual. Only spiritual objects remained bright and visible in this darkness.

Legion saw that the man was glowing brightly. From the light that the man was producing, they could tell that he is a godclad and had to be at rank 2 at least. But apart from that, they couldn’t tell much else.

What they did notice was that the man stiffened when they looked at him, and he turned to look around as if searching for something.

They looked away from him immediately to reduce his vigilance. Legion-1 to the others, “He should be a traveler. They are too sensitive to spying and danger.”

Legion-5 snorted and mocked, “They are cowards, is what they are.”

Legion-4 said, “Either way, that makes two things from the pathway of traveling that will enhance us. Their movement speed will enhance the attack potential of the pathway of killing. Their ability to sense danger and escape will also enhance the pathway of undying.”

“That makes three things that the pathway of traveling can enhance us with as opposed to the single enhancement of escaping that the pathway of walking can do. I guess I have won this argument.”

Legion-1 sighed and said, “Fine, you’ve won.”

With that settled, they began practicing again. Unfortunately, they couldn’t practice at their best because there was someone watching them.

They could only use Sever twice, or their caretaker would notice that they have more spiritual energy than they should. So they had to give up on practicing and began interrogating the man.

What they were doing didn’t appear to be interrogation. It appeared that they were chatting harmlessly with him. The man didn’t know that they were using him to acquire important information.

The information they wanted the most was information about secret societies and black markets in the town. These people and places sell divine flesh in secret and without proper protection and guidance. This leads to the creation of a lot of mutants, which the lamp bearers are not happy about.

Legion wanted to know about these secret societies and black markets so that they can get the things they don’t want people to know about through them. One thing they don’t want others to know about is their pathway of undying.

The other piece of information they wanted to know about was all the operations that the lamp bearers undertake. They were especially interested in the distribution of energy water in the town.

Their caretaker told them everything that wasn’t a secret to lamp bearers. He didn’t hold back anything because he didn’t think he needed to. He wasn’t on guard against Legion at all.

In his impression, Legion was a young man who had taken on a heavy responsibility and danger so as to protect the common people and enforce justice. To him, Levi was a comrade, not a predator.

The concern that Levi showed about the distribution system of energy water and his attention to every detail of the steps involved only seemed to prove that Levi cared a lot about the common people.

The two men spoke at length about a lot of topics for a long while. What they spoke about were things that Legion didn’t know about.

Through the conversation, he learned that the underground base of the lamp bearers had numerous tunnels that served as exits and entrances. After learning about this, Legion finally understood why he had seen less than five godclads throughout the time he spent as a probationary officer.

He also learned that there are only two underground floors in the base. But the man didn’t know how many rooms there were and what they all contained.

What the man did know about was the prison and store. The storeroom is where the divine flesh that the base owns is kept. As for the prison, it is where divine artifacts are kept.

Divine artifacts are divine flesh that have been stabilized. They can be used by anyone without being assimilated. All that is needed to use them is spiritual energy and sometimes lifespan.

Because they are stabilized, they don’t tempt people to assimilate them or free them. But that’s where the good things about divine artifacts end.

Because divine artifacts have been stabilized and don’t need to be assimilated to become active, they don’t need a host for their abilities to be used. These divine artifacts can attack people on their own. It is why they need to be imprisoned in a highly secured vault deep in the earth.

The more Legion spoke with his caretaker, the more things he learned. This reduced his frustration about being watched and followed around.

But the conversation couldn’t continue forever. The man had to go and was replaced by someone else to watch him.
