After his request to remove public suspicion from them by opening their minds for investigation was denied, Jack then begged them to at least meet with the judge and be interviewed by him. Legion refused to do that too.
But Jack was being pressured everywhere by Celine’s family, so he didn’t stop pestering them with this request. He begged them for a long time. After a while, Legion decided to listen to him.
Their slaves told Jack that they were willing to be interviewed by the judge. But the judge had to come to meet them at their base for the interview.
The people pressuring Jack refused their requirements. It was a good thing that they refused because Legion was trying to lure the judge out and seize him.
Even though they had ulterior motives, Legion also remained stubborn and refused to send their slaves out of their base to meet a stranger in an unsafe place. So the only thing that Jack could do was bother them every day about it.
Jack left their base after another day of failing to convince the leaders of the Golden Hammer gang to meet with the judge outside of their base and territory. He took his shabby carriage into the inner city.
His destination in the inner city was a restaurant. He entered the restaurant and went straight to one of the private rooms at the back.
When he opened the door of the private room and entered it, he found someone already there waiting for him. He wasn’t surprised by the presence of the person, as he expected to see the person in the room.
In fact, he came to this particular room to have a meeting with this person. It is a secret meeting that no one else knows about.
As soon as he entered the room, he bowed very low and greeted in a humble voice, “Jack Snider greets his excellency Sir Kriss.”
Sir Kriss of the Irwin family was reading when Jack came in. He didn’t stop reading, though. He just nodded to Jack and signaled that he sit down.
Jack obliged humbly and sat down. He didn’t speak and was willing to wait for no matter how long it would take for Sir Kriss to finish with what he was doing.
Fortunately, Sir Kriss didn’t intend for him to wait. He spoke immediately to Jack.
He didn’t look up from what he was reading as he asked, “I won’t waste your time, and don’t waste mine either. Go straight to the point as usual. What is the result of your current investigation into their finances and situation?”
Jack replied, “I saw their storehouse and read their account books. The two of them match. They truly only have about 1,000 liters of energy water. It doesn’t appear that they are lying to me about that.”
Sir Kriss snorted when he heard that. This made Jack pause what he was saying.
Jack stopped speaking because he thought that Sir Kriss was dissatisfied with what he was saying. Sir Kriss was indeed dissatisfied with what he was saying, but he wasn’t dissatisfied with Jack.
So he said to Jack, “You may continue.”
Jack nodded and continued. “I asked them about what they gained from the two gangs they raided. They claimed that they didn’t gain any energy water from the Cold Blade gang and the Bright Gold gang because the two gang leaders had hidden them somewhere unknown.”
“Just like you asked me to, I asked them where they got the money to buy the divine flesh that they used to advance. They claimed that it was a loan from an acquaintance.”
“In summary, they are poor. Their two new territories are enough for an ordinary gang to live by, but they are not enough for them.”
“The problem is that they have too many leaders. They have too many epic beings, so their income is not enough to make all eight of them satisfied.”
“And then there is the loan they got to buy their rank 4 divine flesh. They need to repay that with interest too. So their finances are truly stretched thin.”
“Their finances are so bad that I would have expected the leaders to fight among themselves. But they don’t fight. They work together despite the lack of funds. It is impressive.”
Sir Kriss asked, “What do you think of the relationship between their leaders? Is there one that you can win over?”
Jack answered hesitantly. “I’m not sure, sir. They don’t appear to be friends. They are more like coworkers who are dedicated to their job and nothing else.”
“Sometimes, they don’t even talk to each other. They make decisions without consulting each other and execute them by themselves. So there should be one of them that is dissatisfied with the situation. I’ll try to sound them out and win them over.”
Sir Kriss nodded and asked, “What do you think their goal is?”
This time Jack had an answer and was quick to reply. He said, “If I could summarize what I think of their goal, I would say that their goal is to live well and in peace.”
He explained further, “From what I could tell, they don’t aim to live extravagantly. They don’t spend money lavishly or care much about material things. What they care about the most is living in peace. They all appear to have that goal.”
Sir Kriss nodded and said, “You have done well.”
Jack smiled in reply. “I am glad that you’re satisfied.”
Sir Kriss didn’t look up as he pointed to the black leather pouch on the table. He said to Jack, “Take it. It is your reward for a job well done.”
Jack grabbed the black leather pouch. The moment he did, the contents in the pouch hit each other and made the sound of metal striking metal.
This sound combined with the sensation from his touch helped Jack determine that the pouch was full of money. And it was a lot of money too. This brought a smile to his face.
