“I will give you a fish,” said Yu Dong, hoping that the cat would be able to hear her over all that meowing that he was doing. “A fish as big as you.”
Fortunately, the cat stopped meowing as he looked up at Yu Dong. His bright yellow eyes flickered and he meowed once again, “Two. Then we will have a deal. You need to pay for my services as well.”
Just what kind of places was this cat even visiting, Yu Dong thought in her head with a worried and helpless expression as she nodded and agreed. “Alright two it is.”
However, the cat didn’t move, instead, he seemed to be waiting for something.
“What is it?” Yu Dong asked with a frown. Why was this cat not moving? Shouldn’t he show her where the woman was hiding now?
“Meow (Advance payment),” said the cat with a lick of his lips.
Yu Dong: “…”
She sighed before taking out a fish from her space and handed it to the cat. “I will hand the big ones to you once you have brought me to the place before that make do with this.”
“Wowwie!! Are your sleeves magical? How can you pull so many fishies from your sleeves?” The orange cat said to Yu Dong who didn’t say anything and simply urged him to take her to the place where the kidnappers were hiding.
“I am! I am, don’t rush me,” the cat meowed as he picked up the fish from the ground and then flicked his tail before turning on his four feet and walking away.
Yu Dong heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that the cat had finally started to move, she followed after the orange cat that leapt to the wooden fence of the house next to the one where they were standing.
The orange cat brought Yu Dong through many narrow paths if not for the fact that Yu Dong was skilled and quick with her feet and was agile, she would have fallen into many pits and ditches along the way, after all, these paths were the ones that the cats of this city usually took.
“How long?” Yu Dong asked as she walked over an old wooden log that was placed behind a house that had a ditch that was behind their back door.
“We are almost there,” the cat answered as he jumped down the wooden boundary of the house. His front paws hit the ground and he turned to look at Yu Dong before flicking his tail at the small hut that was hidden in the shadows at the end of the mountain.
“Meow. Meowrrr,”
[That bad woman lives there, that place is where an old mer lived but then he died, he was kind—he gave me fish! Bah but the humans are scared to go there.]
Yu Dong more or less understood what the cat was saying, the hut might belong to an old mer who died inside of it and thus many people in this city must think of it as haunted.
However, people like that bald woman who killed and kidnapped children and young mers wouldn’t be scared of ghosts, right? Sometimes people like these terrified ghosts as well.
“Thank you,” Yu Dong said to the little cat before handing him two fish. She then walked over to the hut, as she had no time to call for the yamen officers. Not to mention, she did not trust these people, what if they hurt the children if they were to see the yamen officers?
The only reason she involved the Yamen was to teach Master Xiao’s sisters a lesson. That mer was not a good person and his sisters were even more rotten. What was the point of even caring about them?
It was better to throw them inside the prison lest they harm someone else for their benefit.
She marched up to the mountain which was not far from the city but was still at quite a distance. Her red robes fluttered behind her as Yu Dong shielded her face with her hand as the sun’s rays were too bright.
It made her vision blurry as the light shone too bright. Not to mention, the weather was too hot.
Yu Dong walked for fifteen minutes before coming to a stop in front of a boulder behind which she hid. Her eyes fell on the three large dogs that were tied in front of the hut. Next to them slept two women who were both tall and sturdy.
She thought of something and picked up the stone that was lying on her side before throwing it to the back of the hut where the dogs were tied.
Sure enough, as soon as she threw the stone, the dogs who were supposed to be asleep got back on their feet and started barking.
No sooner they start to bark, than the women on either side of the hut also woke up. They rubbed their eyes and picked up their weapons that including axes and machetes
“What is it? What are they barking at now?” One of the women on guard asked as she peered around and Yu Dong ducked.
“Maybe a bird or something of the sort,” said another woman with a roll of her eyes as she suppressed a yawn. “Damn these things, they disturbed my sleep. Fortunately, this house is away from the city or else people would have come barging by now.”
“Well it’s better this way, at least we know that no one can sneak inside the house even if we were to sleep,” the other woman laughed as she arched her back. She then looked around before saying, “I was thinking of going hunting, get a few rabbits to eat? What do you say?”
The woman to whom she spoke snorted and said, “Let’s go. There is still time before we can find a buyer for those two mers, I suppose before that we can only hunt.”
“Haha, don’t worry once those brats are sold we will be rich. Didn’t you see how good they look?”
