Harem System: Spending Money On Women For 100% Rebate!
Chapter 254 - 254: Blast From The...!Cassandra was facing her problems and couldn’t believe things had gotten this way, she was supposed to be scared yet here she was, doing her hair to look pretty.
She stared at herself in the mirror and the anxiousness in her heart was no more.
She wondered who Kyle was with, he was a young, attractive man and knew he must be with one of the other ladies he had on his roster.
She didn’t even mind and wished they could all get along because this life was lonely. Cassandra had no friends and no one to talk to regarding these things.
She was an older woman and knew younger women wouldn’t like the idea of sharing their man. If Kyle was the factor, she could understand as he was an extraordinary man.
Cassandra checked her message thread with Kyle to reread each one carefully to study if he was losing interest in her.
However, she easily got engrossed in it because there were some naughty texts mixed in.
Subtle flirts she had missed when she initially read the message but having a second read only gave her secondhand embarrassment.
Cassandra worried her life was drab and couldn’t get any more exciting but this emotional roller coaster Kyle had her on made her heart pound just like when she had her first crush.
She was a grown woman for crying out loud, so why was a man younger than her making her feel this way?
She kept going up and saw a picture Kyle had sent her, it was a simple picture of his face but it made her flush.
She wished Kyle was here but understood he needed to work to maintain his wealth, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t feel what she felt.
She had a trial tomorrow, the one thing that would conclude everything, but why wasn’t she a nervous wreck?
The answer was Kyle and unlike Calista, Cassandra’s thoughts were a lot less perverted and bordered on security more than anything else.
She didn’t hate her ex-husband, she was indifferent towards him which meant he occupied no parts of her any longer.
For if one hates a person, it means they still lingered in their hate just as they would if they were loved.
But indifference was the death of any emotion in place of said person and Cassandra had reached that stage.
The only thing she cared about was her child and recently, Kyle who came in the guise of her savior.
Cassandra walked out of the house, she was thinking about employment because she couldn’t be left at the mercy of another man.
She trusted Kyle but once upon a time, she trusted Justin, so today might be certain but there was no telling how tomorrow would be.
She had to be prepared for that uncertainty regardless of how unlikely it might be.
Cassandra found a strange text she was yet to respond to, it was from an unsaved number.
“This is strange…” Cassandra thought to herself right before opening it, it was a greeting but she was called a name she hadn’t heard in ages.
“‘Sandra…” Cassandra muttered under her breath. The only people that called her that were her friends from high school but she had long since lost contact with them.
This made her curious who was at the other end of the phone and quickly responded right back.
This message was over a week old already and it wasn’t her intention to leave it unread for this long.
She hoped the person would understand it wasn’t intentional but to her utmost surprise, her message was read right away.
[[I’m surprised you responded! It is me, Dexter. I wasn’t sure if you were still using this number but decided to give it a go!]] the message read.
She knew that name, it sounded familiar but couldn’t pinpoint how or when.
“Dexter… Dexter…” she repeated under her breath but realized it was someone she went to prom with.
Dexter was a strange boy, he was socially awkward but he was a sweet boy that couldn’t hurt a fly, but that didn’t mean flies couldn’t hurt you in return.
He was the object of bullying but eventually bloomed in college, he became a top-tier athlete and his physique evolved to something no one could have guessed.
He focused on his body because his looks didn’t do him justice, at least until puberty.
The boy grew into one of the most renowned quarterbacks but he kind of vanished soon after his career began, or at least, this was what Cassandra thought as she never was a fan of football.”Why is he texting me?” Cassandra questioned, rightfully confused by this and initially thought it was a ploy by Justin to unnerve her.
However, Dexter didn’t like Justin so there was no way this could work and considering his status, there was no way he would do something this pathetic.
Dexter always had a thing for Cassandra right from high school because she treated him right before puberty did its work, he was a late bloomer and even after he did, Cassandra didn’t suddenly become money hungry.
[[I’m in town and was hoping we could meet for coffee. I know you’re married but what is better than catching up with an old friend?]] Dexter acknowledged her marriage and this was indirectly him telling her he was going to respect the boundaries that came with such a commitment.
Cassandra had a decision to make but there was one thing she knew Kyle wouldn’t mind and that was her keeping up with old friends.
“I will like that,” Cassandra mouthed her response as she typed it down before hitting send.
She omitted the part about her divorce or this might give him the wrong impression.
If anything, it would be better if he thought she was married and Cassandra was experienced enough to know how to not throw a man a bone.
It would do her some good to get out of the house as well.
