HERALD OF STEEL

Chapter 1475 - 1475: The Twin Union (Part-2)

Alexander by now was beginning to find a perpetual frown resting on his face, feeling quite irritated Before he started the conversation, he thought he had the twin princesses in the bag. It should have been just a matter of completing the formalities.

Yet now… as they talked about it, suddenly, obstacle after obstacle kept popping up one after the other.

Pasha Farzah was still alright…. they were allies and the old man would likely be more bark and bite. So Alexander did not mind loosening his palms a bit for him.

But Amenheraft… this man would surely try to get something from truly outrageous.

And Alexander could not even casually dismiss him just because he was the enemy.

At the end of the day, the man was still Azira and Azura’s father and in Adhanian culture, a father had a great deal of say in his daughter’s wedding.

This power existed for the parent no matter the circumstances, no matter how vile or cruel or negligent a father was to his daughters.

As the patriarch of the house, this privilege was thought to be granted by the gods, and thus in the eyes of the law, he held the absolute power of life and death over his children and then over his wife and daughter even as they grew up.

So Alexander quickly found that he would have to come up with a pretty clever plan to avoid being taken advantage of, as no matter the sophistry, his tongue alone could never affect Amenheraft.

Which was why the name ‘Ptolomy’ came to his mind in the first place.

Because as the king and god’s representative on earth, surely he possessed the power to strip a father of his divine privilege.

The trouble was… the man was likely incensed with him. So it was hardly a guarantee he was going to play ball.

Rather, it was entirely possible that Alexander was going to end up paying him what he would have to pay Amenheraft.

Hence the origin of his acrid natured ask to Lady Nanazin, “What about Ptolomy? Do you think he will play king and object to it as well?”

“Play king? Master, he is the king, hehehe…” The curly haired lady amusedly giggled at the pleasing description, curving her eyes in glee. But then turning her voice ruminative, hummed in a hesitant voice,

“Mmmm… he might. It is not impossible. I doubt he will really be thrilled to see Azira and Azura get married off. He would likely far prefer to marry them himself!”

Alexander’s lips twitched visibly at the possibility of such an incestuous relationship. They were uncle and niece for god’s sake. So for them to do such a thing….

But that burst of incredulity was actually very short lived- because as Alexander thought about it, he recalled that such relationships were really not all that rare in this time period.

They were still not like they were a dime a dozen, but it was also not anything to raise eyebrows over.

Besides… even if it were, when it came to politics and such huge potential benefits, how could any decent politician let such a prime opportunity pass by?

Alexander was ashamed to admit to himself but when he even put him in Ptolomy’s shoes, he found himself also considering the same options.

Morals and societal values be damned.

While watching from above, Lady Nanazin thought Alexander’s curving of the lips was a sign of his anger and thus quickly added in a reasonable, placating tone-

“But I do not think Ptolomy interfering here is likely, master. Pasha Farzah and brother in… Amenheraft can come because they were the girls’ closest kin. No one can object. But Ptolomy is just an uncle. No, not even that… he is just a step uncle, born from a lowly mother. Hmmp.. who would listen to that waste.”

There was an overflowing amount of disdain in Lady Nanazin’s voice as she said this, her eyes turning gleeful. Every word she got to use to curse regarding Ptolomy filled her heart with joy, and it was made all the sweeter when those claims were an undeniable fact rather than her own opinion.

For example in this instance, it was a widely known fact that Ptolomy birth mother was of very low lineage, as opposed to Amenheraft’s, whose mother was the eldest daughter of a Pasha.

And in Adhania, as well as most of the known lands, a woman’s family background mattered.

It did not apply so strongly to men, but for women, it mattered a lot- because people judged her character and morals almost solely based on her lineage.

Hence it produced a lot of joy in Lady Nanazin to disparage her ‘husband’ in this way.

But eventually, Lady Nanazin managed to get her mood under control and restoring herself to a somber tone, seriously chimed,

“Still, if he was a powerful king, he might have been able to muscle through. But… pfffff… who cares about him? Everyone knows the true ruler of the throne now is Pasha Farzah. So he is the only one you have to pay attention to, master. If the girls’ grandfather agrees, you can marry them even if the whole country opposes it!”

Alexander knew the lady above him was here sugarcoating a bit, exaggerating Ptolemy’s weakness as well as Pasha Farzah’s strengths.

But the words still felt reassuring, calming Alexander’s heaving heart. He once again felt confident in being able to manage without much hassle.

“Hmmm… that is good.” Thus he hummed in pleasure.

But then suddenly, lightly smirking in a playful manner, chuckled, “However then, another way of seeing it would be I cannot marry the two princesses no matter what unless Pasha Farzah consents, right? Is that what you are saying?”

Lady Nanazin very animatedly rolled her eyes at this, right in front of the man himself, knowing he was just saying this to mess with her.

But she cleverly chose not to point out the joke, understanding the innate fear that caused him to create such a thing.

So instead, lightly brushing his hair, the curvy lady soothingly chimed with a sweet smile,

“…Haha, you are being too much of a worrywart, master. Nothing like that will happen. Besides, if not you, who will Pasha Farzah marry his precious grandfathers to anyway?”

“All the other pashas are against him. And he will certainly not marry off Azira and Azura to them just to make an alliance, like he most likely did with Mikaya. I know this because he famously swore such in court.”

Indeed, this was something he famously did after his daughter Layla’s death… wanting to give the twins a life without struggle and strive, completely removed from politics.

But at the same time, Pasha Farzah would also never even consider marrying the precious apple of his eyes to anyone who was not a Pasha or part of the royal family.

As the ruler of Matrak, the old man also had a reputation to hold.

Both of these conditions might be a bit mutually exclusive, but it was what it was. Pasha Farzah made his decision based on two very different factors and now was struggling to hopelessly couple them even though they did not match.

And the resulting complex circumstances somehow made Alexander almost the sole candidate, as announced by the hopeful lady, “So right now, you are the only one he can hope to marry without any worry.”

“…” Alexander did not say anything at this reasonable deduction, but Lady Nanazin clearly noticed his mood improving much.

So deciding to give the man one last push, the clever lady proposed with a light giggle,

“And do not worry master, I will also help.”

“First, let me tell you that Azira and Azura likes you. This is without a doubt, trust me. As their aunt, I know very well those girls would have never been so obedient to anyone else. They are incredibly stubborn when they want to be. Thus the fact that they still listen to you is a great tell.”

“It should be fairly easy for me to convince the two that marrying you is their best bet. And if they themselves ask for it, Pasha Farzah would not be able to resist you even if he is a thousand times reluctant! “

And Alexander found this also quite reasonable.

Indeed, Azira and Azura were not like other girls.

Pure as white snow yet religiously extremely zealous, he was not even sure they understood what it meant to get married and have a family. They had spent their whole life in the temple and lacked many basic congitions.

So if Alexander offered them the guarantee of their current lifestyle, where they got to pray and act without almost any constraints, it should be fairly easy to convince them to accept.

And Lady Nanazin was not even done, as after this, she further added,

“I will also write two letters for you my lord. One for Queen Mother, urging her to stop that bast… stop Ptolomy from interfering and if possible even help you. I easily imagine Seelima will not be thrilled over her new husband taking twin wives so soon. So with this, she will surely tighten the rope.”

“And another letter to Mikaya, telling of all your good characters. If Pasha Farzah’s most favored daughter appeals on your behalf… I do not believe the man will cause too much trouble.”
