Late at night, atop the mountain.
As the You Character Banner chief, Bai Zhilang sat behind the desk, dressed in pitch-black armor, carefully examining a booklet that recorded the battle outcomes and the casualties of the Ghosts.

In the middle of the hall, a cluster of gray mist suddenly exploded, and the Military Supervisor Gong Huan, wearing a black robe with silver thread patterns and wide sleeves, suddenly appeared.
"Military Supervisor, has there been some trouble?" Bai Zhilang’s cold and stern face was full of confusion.
"In the evening, Ghost Gate suddenly trembled violently. General... Your Soul Summoning Banner, it hasn’t encountered any problems, has it?" Gong Huan asked with a serious and solemn expression.
Bai Zhilang’s brows furrowed, "Wasn’t it you who were casting the Dharma Curse?"
"Could it be the multi-headed Jiaos? Do they also plan to attack the camp like the Red-eyed Water Monkeys?" Bai Zhilang’s expression became grave, "The lesson from the Hai Character Camp is still fresh in our minds, we must trouble the Military Supervisor to investigate once more."
Gong Huan nodded, "If Red-eyed Water Monkeys can attack the Hai Character Camp, the multi-headed Jiaos are naturally cunning and treacherous. We can’t guarantee they won’t come ashore to cause trouble.""Later, I will comb through the entire camp. The motion might be somewhat large, so I hope the general can calm the Ghosts in advance, to prevent an uprising."
"Be thorough in your search," said Bai Zhilang, his expression grave.
Gong Huan bowed, fist in palm, his form turned, and a cluster of gray mist rose. In an instant, he vanished from sight.
The Nether Soul Lantern floated in mid-air, its candlelight flickering. The great hall was silent.
Bai Zhilang, however, did not continue to browse through the scroll in his hands but narrowed his eyes and stared at the spot where Gong Huan had disappeared. Within his pupils, a hint of concealed bloodlight surfaced.
After a long while, he suddenly spoke to the air in front of him, "Gong Huan is always upright and strict, and he is a trusted confidant of the City Lord. If he were to conduct a large-scale search, would we encounter any trouble?"
Then his expression changed, answering his own question, "No need to worry, if we could hide from the Main Camp’s search, then Gong Huan will not discover us."
His face was still that square face, yet his expression and demeanor had completely changed, as if there were two different people residing within the same skin!
"Should we take care of him ahead of time?"
"Rash actions will only expose our flaws."
"Then let him live a few more days."
"..."
...
In the dead of night, the You Character Camp gradually fell into slumber.
The Divine Concealing Mist that shrouded the camp flowed rapidly as if it had come to life.
Inside the Flame Moving Division’s camp at the foot of the mountain, Chen Mu lay on the bed unable to sleep. His eyes slightly squinted, he watched the constant flow of the Divine Concealing Mist through the half-open window.
"Is it necessary to search time and again just because I slightly touched the Ghost Gate?" Chen Mu inwardly mocked.
Luckily, he was cautious and didn’t venture into Thousand Lanterns City tonight, otherwise he might have been discovered in this sudden night raid.
He made his breathing deep and slow, pretending to sleep deeply, yet his spirit remained focused on the changing mist outside the window. Only when the movement of the Divine Concealing Mist gradually slowed down in the latter half of the night did Chen Mu finally breathe a sigh of relief.
It seems I dodged that bullet...
As he was considering whether to enter Thousand Lanterns City to complete his daily Safe Heart Sutra practice, a thunderous rumble suddenly burst forth. The earth trembled violently, Chen Mu even felt as though the little wooden hut had jumped up!
He was startled and immediately leapt from his room, only to see the phantom of the Ghost Gate soaring into the sky from the mountainside. But just as it flew roughly as high as a ten-story building, it burst apart with a bang.
The Ghost Gate... exploded?!
No way!
I merely touched the Ghost Gate, how could it possibly explode?!
At this moment, the entire camp was also startled awake by this abrupt change, calls and signals ringing out between the mountains.
A Ghost Face Copper Medal on Chen Mu’s body vibrated with orders to soothe and suppress the auxiliary forces, to prevent disorder.
But his face tightened, his thoughts in disarray, he didn’t have the mind to pay attention.
My touch couldn’t possibly have caused such a big mess... could it?
...
At the midpoint of the mountain, by the Bottomless Pool in the Netherworld Division.
Bai Zhilang, in his black armor, leaned nonchalantly against the Ghost Gate.
"Originally, I wanted to let you live a few more days," he said with a smiling gaze as he looked at Gong Huan not far away, "but seeing you work your way through the night made me sympathize with your hardships. I think it’s better to hasten your death."
Gong Huan: "..."
What kind of lunatic is this?!
"You’re not Bai Zhilang, who are you?" Gong Huan demanded, surrounded by gray mist, his eyes fixed on the familiar face before him.
"Do you want to die knowing the truth?" Bai Zhilang’s right hand slightly lifted.
Blood-red, transparent streams of water suddenly appeared, moved slowly, and gathered into a sphere, encompassing both Gong Huan and Bai Zhilang within it.
"Even if you knew, what difference would it make?" Bai Zhilang chuckled.
"Yin Spirits die and that’s the end of it. They can’t go complaining to Mingjun."
Gong Huan, however, shook his head solemnly, "I just want to know if you are worth surrendering to!"
Bai Zhilang: "..."
Lan Zhang: "..."
Weren’t you the City Lord’s trusted confidant, upright and strict?
You haven’t even fought yet and you’re already thinking of surrendering?!
"Who are you, if not Gong Huan?" Now it was Bai Zhilang’s turn to be confused.
Gong Huan couldn’t help but chuckle: "General Bai, appearances can be deceiving..."
Bai Zhilang: "..."
That’s not how you use that word!
...
As dawn broke, the Ghost soldiers of the You Character Camp set out.
Chen Mu, holding the Ghost Face Copper Medal, relaxed as he read the incoming information.
"So the commotion last night was all because several giant serpents had attacked the camp under the cover of darkness, and after being discovered by the Military Supervisor, a fierce battle broke out."
"Does this mean that my previous connection with the Ghost Gate inadvertently led the Military Supervisor to discover the serpent attack?"
"I’ve inadvertently performed a merit without wrongdoing!"
As Chen Mu joyfully thought this to himself, he continued to review the announcement. But as he read on, he suddenly stiffened.
"The Bottomless Pool destroyed?"
"Auxiliary troops of the Flame Moving Division remain stationary?"
This eerie sense of familiarity...
Wasn’t this exactly how the Hai Character Camp went down?!
Chen Mu immediately felt his scalp tingle.
The General Bai up on the mountain top, he couldn’t have also defected to Nether Demon Heaven, could he?
...
For three consecutive days, Chen Mu was on tenterhooks, eating poorly, sleeping fitfully, and nervously watching the top of the mountain all day long.
Not until he saw the Flame Moving Division’s various units start to move the giant serpents’ bodies again, not until he saw the Bottomless Pool fully restored and functioning normally, and not until he saw Gong Huan, the Military Supervisor, meticulously recording the military achievements, did he... he still couldn’t feel at ease.
Deep into the night, inside Thousand Lanterns City.
"Bai Zhilang and Gong Huan betraying Antiquity City together?"
Shen Yan burst into laughter, as if he had heard the funniest joke: "Your imagination is quite rich."
"Genius monsters like Lan Zhang don’t come around but once in hundreds of years."
"Such people, impatient for success and unwilling to be outdone, I wouldn’t be surprised if he betrayed the Netherworld. I even think that the City Lord had anticipated it."
"But the others..." Shen Yan shook his head, "They don’t have the guts, nor the ability."
"What if..." Chen Mu was still worried.
"You’re not thinking of hiding in Thousand Lanterns City again, are you?" Shen Yan said with a look of exasperation, "This is clearly a monster sneak attack on the camp. Can you stop being such a coward?"
"You know nothing! I call this being cautious!" Chen Mu insisted vehemently.
Shen Yan immediately rolled his eyes. If it weren’t for fear that this bastard would drag him out to sunbathe, he would have made a good joke of him.
"Even if Bai Zhilang really did have an issue, it’s absolutely impossible for Gong Huan."
"We Military Supervisors are all personally cultivated and promoted by the City Lord, and bound by the Secret Technique Covenant. Betraying Antiquity City would result in our death by the City Lord Mansion’s Dharma Curse."
"Gong Huan is upstanding and meticulous in his duties, always faithfully following the City Lord’s orders."
"Since Gong Huan is staying properly in the Netherworld Division, then Bai Zhilang could not possibly betray Antiquity City."
Seeing Chen Mu still look doubtful, Shen Yan became impatient.
"If he really betrayed the City Lord, I’ll build a stage and do three thousand somersaults in front of these three thousand Yin Spirits!"
Chen Mu immediately turned to look at him.
...
The weather in Nether Demon Heaven was damp and hot, which bred all sorts of cunning and ferocious monsters.
The most obvious sign was the intensifying battles on the beachfront.
Despite so many giant serpents being killed, they persistently engaged in desperate combat with the Ghost soldiers of the You Character Camp.
This resulted in the Flame Moving Banner’s daily task of moving the serpent’s carcasses becoming increasingly burdensome. Where it used to take only half a day to clear the battlefield, now they were busy until the sun was completely set, and still, only half of the serpent bodies could be moved.
The You Character Camp had no choice but to issue Flame Wheel Vehicles to the auxiliary troops of the Yinfeng Sect, temporarily turning them into the Flame Moving Division to help. Under these circumstances, even Chen Mu, a standard-bearer of the Ghost soldiers, had to personally get involved with the moving.
Gradually, he began to feel at ease.
For over half a month, Chen Mu had not ceased his secret observations.
All through the You Character Camp, everyone was busy with hunting and warfare just like spinning tops; aside from the normal casualties of battle, there had been no mysterious disappearance of Yin Spirits.
Shi Dechun helped to eavesdrop on camp gossip, but heard no unsettling rumors.
"It seems I really was overthinking," Chen Mu chuckled and shook his head.
He actually welcomed the increasingly busy tasks of the Flame Moving Division.
"Being busy is good, maybe we can meet the hunting target sooner and leave Nether Demon Heaven earlier." He merrily thought.
"It’s just a bit regretful not to see Old Ghost Shen doing somersaults on stage."
"Hmm... should I trick him into performing on stage?"
"Hiss... I could totally do that, haha!" Chen Mu’s eyes lit up at the thought.
"Since the old ghost can’t leave Thousand Lanterns City, wouldn’t it be easy to put him on stage?"
"The three thousand Yin Spirits have been cooped up in Thousand Lanterns City for too long, their repressed emotions need a stunning performance to ease their spirits."
"Looks like it’s time to put Supervisor Shen through a bit of hardship! Haha..." Chen Mu, with a swoosh, tossed a five-headed serpent carcass onto the Flame Wheel Vehicle and headed off cheerfully towards Shi Dechun and Hong Xiu.
Shen Yan, sly as a fox, wasn’t easy to fool; he’d need some accomplices to help with the act.
