Chapter 1015: 1015 Gormana Is Growing

Wolfe made a flight platform for himself, plus Cassie and Ella, to go up and survey the territory. They had the map, and they had already decided where they would split the spells, according to the territories of the Guardians present, but it was far easier to adjust the spell when they could see everything that they were casting it on.

“Why don’t we do it all now, and pass out the tokens when we get back down? I can bring us high enough that you will be able to see the entire nation beneath you, and while that might not give the best details from such a height, it should give a general idea of what areas need the most help.” Wolfe suggested.

Gormana wasn’t as large as the frozen wastes, so they should be able to get it all in sight before it became too far for the witches to easily discern the boundaries for the spell segments, Wolfe hoped as they vanished up into the clouds and out of sight of the gathered Demons below.

“The view from here is beautiful. I wonder if we could make planes that fly this high? Everyone should get a chance to see this.” Ella remarked as Wolfe adjusted the air inside their protective shield, increasing the density to offset the naturally thin air at extreme altitudes.

“I suppose that it’s possible, but it wouldn’t be easy. The air is too thin outside for the wings to actually life the plane, so it would have to be brute force, like a rocket, and not a turbine engine.

But what do you think, is this still close enough to effectively cast the spell?” Wolfe replied.

Both witches nodded and began to form the spell while standing in a circle with Wolfe, holding hands to make the mana transfer easier.

The contract called for a Rank Two Garden Charm over the croplands of the nation, but that was a pain to cast, so they planned to just do the whole nation, and then segment it into multiple focal points, which would be spread out to balance the mana draw.

With one large spell, even if one of the focal objects was destroyed or disenchanted, the spell would still continue to function. It would reduce the chances that tampering or sabotage would take out entire regions of the spell, and offset the mana draw of natural droughts or floods, as the spell worked to mitigate the effects on the crops.

Power surged through Wolfe as the spell began to take shape, and he briefly wondered what this felt like from the ground. It was only a Rank Two Charm, but casting it over the entire nation at once was a massive amount of power, more than the two witches could do on their own, and they were rapidly drawing down the stored power in one of Wolfe’s mana cores.

“The environment here is in terrible shape, polluted and damaged by years of overcultivation, stripping it of nutrients. We are going to have to explain crop rotations to them soon, or they will have poor outcomes even with the charm.” Cassie explained as she shaped the spell.

“That’s fine. We can work on the education campaign after they have the first crops out of the fields, when the people aren’t worried about starvation. They aren’t going to listen if we do it right now. They don’t care about the soil, they care about getting enough food and fuel to keep themselves going through the year.” Wolfe replied with a deep frown.

“We could increase the power of the spell.” Ella suggested.

“Our deal with them is a charge per mana hour of the charm, taxed by acre of land. If we increase it, we’re contractually obligated to charge them more.” Wolfe reminded her.

Ella just shrugged. They likely wouldn’t mind when they saw the increased output, but an extra tax burden on everyone was never a welcome addition, even if you got benefits from it. Most of their population also lived in the cities, with big yards, and they would pay without direct benefits, unless they started growing a garden.

It looked like most of them were trying, but the soil in Gormana was not good to start with, it was very nearly a desert where it wasn’t rocky coastal hills. Not much would grow there without the help of magic.

The spell spread to the borders, and Wolfe laughed as he saw the soldiers at the border stations giving each other strange looks. They could feel the spell, but all of the bordering nations were mundane human nations, and they had no idea where the spell was coming from.

The Witches broke the focus up into fifteen pieces to spread between the Guardians, and finalized the spell, letting it settle in over the land as Wolfe added Mana Gathering Charms to the statues.

They had chosen to make a joke of the focal points, gold statues of Wolfe in his ’Demon Lord’ business suit, clean-shaven and holding a token in his palm in the shape of Gormana.

The graven image of him holding their nation in the palm of his hand was sure to get a few of the Demons worked up when they got their tokens, but most of them would find it hilarious.

Wolfe brought them down to ground level, where the Demons were happily watering the garden and watching as wilted leaves began to turn green.

The first thing that the spell would do was help revive struggling plants, the faster growth rate and output volumes would come later. The farmers should notice the improvement before the official announcement of their trade deal, and they would know that Forest Grove kept their word.

The power was already back on, and the crops were growing. That should be enough to prove to the people that the fees they were paying were worth it.

Wolfe created a full-sized platform for the group and gestured for them to join him.

“I have the focal points. One for each of you. At the suggestion of our resident Incubus, we went with fashionable statues.” Wolfe announced, and everyone turned to glare at the slender Demon, who was looking increasingly excited to get his statue.

“Here you go. I hope that you’re to your taste.”
