Inheritor Of Magic: The Magi King

Chapter 1029 Of Mice and Minotaurs

Chapter 1029: 1029 Of Mice and Minotaurs

Wolfe turned to the Minotaur with a smile. “I know that you have a few ideas, I’ve seen them in your expression.”

The large beastkin man nodded. “Yeah, I’ve got a couple of ideas. I get that the Academy is for magic, and most mages are pretty nerdy, but at home, they’re almost all part of the army. Couldn’t we have a bit more time for physical fitness?

I go to the underground fights at night, and I can already feel myself losing muscle tone with all this book learning.”

Petros looked at Wolfe. “You allow underground fights to continue in the city so openly?”

Wolfe and the two beastkin both laughed. “Oh, he means literally underground. As in, we hold them in the second underground level training area. They’re all regulated, and all consenting adults, but we do allow betting on them, it’s not illegal.

I’m guessing this big guy is likely going up against Wrath Demons every weekend, as those are the ones with the biggest payouts.”

The Minotaur nodded. “Yeah, it’s been pretty good. Norma the Artificer fences the cash for us to send home, and I’ve already verified that Ma is getting the money. Heck, I don’t even need to win, the loser still gets a fighter’s fee from the house cut.”

“More physical fitness is a good idea. I know that many of the beastkin need more exercise than the humans do. The teachers might have overlooked that when they made the lesson plans.” Wolfe agreed.

“That’s just about it. Class is going great, and I’m near the top of the class in the Earth Magic lessons. I’m not doing great in the other ones, but the Professor said everyone has their specialty.”

Wolfe nodded. “That is true. Some mages never get the hang of certain elements. There are a number that I can’t use well even now. But if you’re near the top of the Earth Mages, then the assessment was right, and you’ve got the potential that they were looking for.”

The Minotaur beamed with pride and gave Wolfe a polite bow.

“Alright, you can go, and we will finish up here.”

The Minotaur left, and Wolfe turned to face the last person he had called upon.

“Now, I have a few extra questions for you, Miss. Might I know your name?”

“My name is Milan, but everyone calls me Mini.” She replied, barely more than a whisper.

“And how are you enjoying your time here, Mini?” Wolfe asked.

For a second, he could see her coming up with a good lie, and then noticing that he had noticed her coming up with a lie, at which point she panicked and tried to come up with a new answer.

“Relax, Mini. Breathe. How about we start with this. How are your classes, are you doing well?” Wolfe tried.

She nodded silently.

“Is your magic developing smoothly?”

Now, she smiled a little and nodded again. “I’m the top of all the classes. The strongest new mage candidate of the year.”

“Is that related to the fact that there are layers of bruises on your arms and your neck?” Wolfe asked, throwing the conversation off the tracks.

Mini froze for almost a minute before responding. “How did you know that?”

“I can see it. My eyes see all the things that people want to hide, and the more that they intend to hide it, the easier it is for me to see.

Now, I know it’s not me who left the bruises, and it’s not my friend here, as he just arrived. But we can help.” Wolfe gently replied.

Again, the timid mouse paused before answering.

“There is another mage here from my household. A cat named Aaron. He has always picked on me, he says it’s only normal that cats chase mice. My mom says he likes me, but I don’t like him back.” She replied.

“How did he manage to leave bruises like that? The spell over the city should have dissuaded him from anything that would harm you that way.” Wolfe asked.

“The classrooms. They’re shielded against outside magic so that it doesn’t interfere with the spells we’re training. He waits inside one and then grabs me as I walk past. I started walking further from the doors, but he used a rope to grab me.” She whispered.

Wolfe looked at Petros. “Do you know the person she’s referring to?”

King Petros nodded. “I do. From the household of Corgis.”

“Alright. I have a plan. First, we will place a protective spell on Mini here, and then we will go talk to Aaron. I believe everyone was warned more than once that there would be repercussions for bad behaviour.

Miss Mini, would you be more comfortable telling the whole story to the Dorm Mother?”

The small beastkin nodded. “Yes, she’s much less scary than you are.”

Wolfe remembered the Witch who had been working as the Dorm Mother, she was among the ones who had recently arrived, so she didn’t have a Servant Bond or other link directly to Wolfe for him to contact her. But there were others in the area who did, and Wolfe sent a message for anyone who saw the Dorm Mother to send her into the meeting room.

Five seconds later, the smiling Dorm Mother came in.

“I was waiting right outside the door, in case you needed me.” She explained.

“Wonderful. Miss Mini needs to speak with you about a few things, while we go to speak with Aaron, the cat kin.” Wolfe explained.

The Witch’s expression was suddenly grave as she looked at Wolfe, who nodded to indicate that he was in a lot of trouble.

Wolfe led King Petros from the room, before the King turned to look at him, confused about Wolfe’s intentions.

“Will the boy’s testimony really change anything?” He asked.

“Likely not. It’s impossible for him to lie to us, and I’ve got a truth charm with me, so he knows it. But I will still listen to his side of the story to determine how harsh of a penalty he deserves.”
