Chapter 1154: 1154 Enlightenment
Later that evening, Wolfe was relaxing in a reclining chair with the children, going through memories in a crystal without losing himself in the visions.
The twins had a firm grip on Ivan’s arms, but they were sleeping and not trying to chew on him, so the little Magi didn’t mind.
His mind was developing much more quickly than a normal child’s should have, and he was just beginning to recognize the nature of human interactions. Until this point, he only recognized the individual scents and appearances of people who were commonly around him.
But that evening, he had made a profound discovery. All of those scents were actually different people, and the spices he could smell were their magic. Now that he was focusing, he could tell who was powerful, who was weak, which were demons, which were nannies and which were dad.
Of course, all Succubi were nannies in his mind because they held him and gave him affection, or brought him to mother for food. But he hadn’t made it that far yet.
But the realization that they were all people too, and that they could want to do things on their own was a shock to the tiny Magi.
He stared up at his father, and Wolfe attempted to form a mental connection between them. There was no formal link like the Pentacle, but it was his son, and he was curious what he was thinking.
“Do you need help with something, your Majesty?” Ciel asked from behind his chair.
They often stood around waiting for the children to need something, and at the moment, Wolfe had all three.
“I was wondering what he was thinking.” Wolfe shrugged.
“Oh, that is easy. He just realized that all of the moving warm and spicy things are people. Here, let me add you to the link.”
The Ciel had surprisingly developed mental magic, and Wolfe smiled as he sensed Ivan’s thoughts in his mind.
Ivan shifted a little, trying to adjust his legs, and his sisters rolled partially on top of him.
[Even warmth.] He realized.
This was truly a peak sleeping position. Perhaps his father knew secrets that Ivan had never thought of before. He slept like this all the time between the mothers.
Ciel was trying not to laugh as the littlest Magi made great advances in his understanding of the universe. It was fascinating to watch.
But the way that he saw everything was wholly different to what Wolfe was used to, the way that he associated magic flows with scents, and power levels with warmth.
When he thought about them that way, Wolfe realized that it actually merged his mana sense with his other senses much more smoothly. Before it was more of a separate sense that he added to the others, but thinking of it the way that Ivan did seemed to merge it as more of an innate sense than a magical ability.
Wolfe hadn’t expected to learn new things from someone who was only an infant, and couldn’t even walk yet. But he was so attuned to his surroundings that it was uncanny.
Even though he was laying with his eyes closed, he could tell that Ciel was standing behind Wolfe, and that his Nanny was near the other caretakers near the door.
He also knew that the head nanny wasn’t the same species as the others, and that she was coming from his mother’s room because he could smell her magic on the woman.
Wolfe could sense the mana flows, but he didn’t associate them with anything until now.
But changing the way that he did it, with the senses of a Magi King, changed everything. He could tell what maids had come from the kitchen, what they were cooking for dinner by what boxes had been touched, who had been getting freaky, who had not, and who was close to a breakthrough.
He could also more easily tell what sorts of magic had been used in the area without focusing on the flows individually. Linking them to his other senses made it completely natural.
For example, the Ciel smelled like baby powder and sunshine, as they used all holy magic and were always around the children. Someone had been using Witch Charms in the back of the library, and both Cassie and Ella were coming looking for their children.
He should have guessed that. They had been asleep on him for a while now.
“How do you manage to keep them so calm and quiet? It is completely unfair. But you have guests, so you need to give the kids back and get up.” Cassie greeted him.
Wolfe extended his senses out and found that King Petros was here with a large group of young humans. Ones who were beginning to awaken their powers, but couldn’t quite cast spells yet.
It was most likely about schools. Petros still didn’t have enough, and Wolfe had stolen all the qualified teachers.
Using Space Magic let him step through to the reception area with negligible effort, and the other King smiled in greeting.
“King Wolfe. It’s good to see you again. Fatherhood is treating you well. You smell like baby powder and books.” Petros greeted him.
“Thank you. It’s been quite the journey. How about we find a good spot to sit and talk? You’re not in a hurry are you?” Wolfe asked.
“No, I have some time. I have brought along some students who need training. We have more now than we have teachers for, but I hear that you’ve got a number of smaller schools who can accept exchange students.”
Wolfe nodded and motioned for the guards to take the students to a side room where they could be sorted and sent off to academies with space.
“So, what is so exciting that you had to find time to visit in person?” Wolfe joked.
There was an emissary here full-time, but they hadn’t even given a heads-up about the arrival.
“I have a colony issue that I am hoping you can help with as a fellow Regent.”
