Kyran continued to attract the energies around him. It was his first time actively absorbing the energies in the surroundings, but he wondered why it felt familiar.
None of them knew about the incident when Kyran turned six, and his magic had just manifested. He practically absorbed all energies in the surroundings and fell into a coma because his body could not take it.
Right now, Kyran's body was strong enough so he would not fall into a coma after absorbing the surrounding energies. If he had to be worried about a possible problem, it would be on how much his central core could absorb. If he was not careful, it might aggravate his already damaged magic core.
After Kyran absorbed enough energies, he imagined an orb similar to his magic core, slowly growing in size.
Crackle!
"Kid, stop!"
"Wait, wait. Don't expand your magic!"
Kyran's eyes snapped open as he heard Nolan and Anette call out to him at the same time. The moment he saw the supposed orb he imagined, his back broke out in cold sweat. He turned and looked at Anette, who was currently in front of Cyneah with a protective barrier around them.
"You just destroyed my array!" Nolan's voice boomed behind him.
It was then that Kyran noticed that the ground beneath his feet had been hallowed at least an inch deep because his supposed 'orb' appeared like his Void Barrier, except it did not have a particular color.
"S-Sorry," Kyran said and released the 'orb' at once.
"Sorry, my ass!" Nolan growled as a pellet-like material formed in front of him before flicking it toward the back of Kyran's head.
"Ow!" Kyran winced as the pellet hit his head. He turned and glared at Nolan. "What are you doing?"
"You're suppose to release pure magic energy not your magic!" Nolan berated him.
"You did not have to hit me!" Kyran complained. Though the pellet was small and looked ordinary, it actually hurt a lot. Who knew what kind of magic attack Nolan hid within it?
"That's punishment for destroying my array," Nolan replied with a shrug.
Anette, who saw these sighed at Nolan's childish antics.
"You two stop. And Nolan, seriously? A pellet?" She shook her head in disbelief. Then she looked at Kyran and added, "What just happened?"
Kyran looked at her and sighed. What could he tell her? He just followed her instructions. Unfortunately, the results were not as good as Cyneah's.
Cyneah, oblivious to what just happened, could only listen to their exchange.
"I'm not sure," Kyran finally replied after hesitating for a second. "I tried what you said, but I guess I'm doing something different."
"It's not that you're doing something different. You're just not releasing your magic energy properly," Zephyr suddenly said while jumping down the rail.
They turned to look at him as he approached the array.
Nolan raised his brows at Zephyr, "That was him not releasing his magic energy properly? I think he was releasing too much it turned into pure magic."
Zephyr looked at him and snorted, "Don't lump my master's magic to the likes of you."
Nolan's brow twitched. He really wanted to give a piece of his mind to this Quilin one of these days.
"Why you little—."
"Master, remember that you have the Power of Nothingness," Zephyr told Kyran while ignoring Nolan.
"—Oi!" Nolan growled.
Zephyr continued, "When you absorb energies, you need to convert them properly. If not, returning it outside will have a negation effect."
"What negation effect?" Kyran asked.
Zephyr nodded, "You already took in the energies in the surroundings so their nature has been changed, if you don't complete their conversion and simply release it back, the world would reject them, thus, the negation effect."
Hearing Zephyr's explanation made Anette and Nolan look at each other.
Their master once told them about this theory. However, they never really studied nor encountered it because this phenomenon was only seen once in history. Although they said 'history,' it was not publicly known. It was only written in an ancient record from their master's family. As to the mage who experienced this phenomenon, it was the Void Master.
"How can I convert it?" Kyran asked again.
Zephyr tilted his head on one side and looked at him with wide eyes, "Don't ask me. You're the one with the Power of Nothingness."
Kyran's brow twitched. He should have known Zephyr would not have the answer to his question. Zephyr might know things about his magic, but compared to Draconic magic, his Void magic knowledge was probably bits and pieces of information he remembered from the memories his ancestors had passed on him.
Zephyr's expression turned solemn as he added, "Only you will know how to convert the energies you absorbed, Master, as long as you understand your magic well. Let me ask you, how well do you know your magic?"
'How well do I know my magic...' Kyran repeated the question in his mind as he looked at his hand. Purple rings formed above his palm; they expanded and retracted rhythmically.
If Kyran compared his knowledge of Void magic to Draconic magic, his understanding of Void magic was just a drop of water while Draconic magic was at least half a glass of water. The reason why he knew more about Draconic magic was simple. He had been using it for years, albeit he had not realized it was Draconic magic. The army did not even detect him using Draconic magic. It was the same when he was in military school. He passed their initial assessment because they did not detect any magic reaction from him.
'We're not talking about my Draconic magic, though. Don't get sidetracked,' Kyran reminded himself.
Thinking of these facts, Kyran really knew too little about his Void magic. He remembered the first time he used Void magic. He relied on his instincts. Every time he discovered a new way to use his magic, it was all due to his instincts. Of course, now he knew it was due to the experience stored in his Void core. But even then, he really just depended on instincts in understanding his magic.
So if Kyran had to answer Zephyr's question, he would answer; he did not know much about his magic. The only thing he knew was how destructive it was.
"I hope you will find that Void Magic is not all about destruction."
The words of Kyran's predecessor flashed in his mind. He furrowed his brows and released the purple rings.
Zephyr took a deep breath. He could feel his master's inner turmoil and understand why. The Four Great Magic had always been a subject that few knew of. Even his ancestors only knew a little. The only person who understood these four magic was the Void Master. It was one of the reasons why he was viewed as a threat by all those other Realm Masters. The biggest reason, of course, was still his possession of the power of nothingness.
After the Void Master's death, those Realm Masters finally felt at ease. But to make sure the human plane would not give birth to a new threat, they demanded all non-humans to return to their planes. It was the reason why the dragons had to leave the human plane.
'But all those are useless. In the end, there is a new Void Master. Not only that, he possessed not only the power of nothingness but also the power of dragons,' Zephyr thought with a wry smile.
Pushing all these thoughts at the back of his mind, Zephyr looked at Kyran and said, "There is an ancient record that says that among the four great magic, the power of nothingness was the first to come into existence..."
All of them looked at Zephyr once more.
Even Nolan's and Anette's interests were piqued after hearing Zephyr.
[...because nothingness gave birth to all things.]
Zephyr continued telepathically while giving Kyran a meaningful look. He did not say it out loud for fear of invoking something or someone. After all, the ancient record he mentioned was from the dragon's plane. Any knowledge from there should not be shared with another plane.
Kyran's eyes widened after hearing his words.
'Nothingness gave birth to all things... Void magic is not all about destruction...'
Scenes popped in Kyran's head one after another. These were scenes of all the times he had used or summoned his magic. He remembered when he formed his first Void form, the Void Scales. There was also that time he first tried molding Void magic into a new shape other than the purple rings. He also recalled the times he used his Void Barrier and managed to not destroy the things he did not want to be destroyed during his fight with Sigma. Speaking of this incident, something similar happened the first time he summoned his domain. If he remembered correctly, others managed to enter his domain except their magic appeared to be ineffective. Thinking of all these times, Kyran realized that indeed, Void magic was not all about destruction.
Slowly, an idea started to form in Kyran's mind. He looked at Nolan and said, "Please fix the array. I need to try something."
