Chapter 156: Flight

Teleporting was incredible. The user could go wherever he wanted instantly, without worrying about the route, but only with the arrival, going from one point to another in a moment.

But flying was the complete opposite. It was as incredible as teleporting, if not, even more incredible. While in teleportation someone may only have to think about where they would want to go, while when flying, with nothing to support one's feet, the path becomes the most important thing. Feeling every second of adrenaline, every second of freedom, seeing the landscape in the distance, seeing the monsters below just staring up without being able to do anything, that feeling is priceless.

And that was exactly what Noah was feeling for the first time. He was currently gliding back from the top of the statue to his imps. As much as he was just gliding, with no real control over where he was going to fly, it was still a feeling of which Noah became addicted. What he wanted to do was to teleport to the top of the boss's head and repeat this over and over again without stopping.

That was, until he had the idea to teleport while flying. Trying to teleport to a spot in the air, without any physical points as a reference, was much more difficult, and surprisingly, more energy-consuming. But to his surprise, it really worked. As he glided, only able to go down, without being able to flap his wings upwards to be able to climb further, teleportation could deal with this problem.

So before touching the ground, Noah teleported to 100 meters above the ground, which used up almost all of his energy but allowed him to feel firsthand what gravity acceleration was by increasing his speed by 10 m / s, making him reach more than 100 km / h in just 3 seconds. And while the speed increased even more, he spread his wings once again, and tried to make an inverted parabola where he would slow down the fall speed and convert that into enough kinetic force to get back up in the air.

(Author Note: Just like minecraft players use Elytra to fly.)

"Hahaha, Maggy will love flying too!" Noah thought as he risked making some maneuvers in the air before returning to the ground and landing next to the imps.

The imps looked at those wings, and their gaze returned to Noah with even more reverence. It was exactly as the system had said, wings were a synonym for power. The bigger in size and quantity someone's wings, the more powerful and important that being was, both among demons and among angels.

"Will any one of you ever develop wings?" Noah asked aloud while looking at the imps, who, upon hearing Noah's question, showed a rare expression of shame and expectation, as if they were really a group of young children, which made Noah see them as even more cute, disregarding that this troubled little group had slaughtered a group of Rank D monsters as if they were nothing. All the while they had done so with evil laughter and as much cruelty as possible, as if none of this made them any less cute in Noah's view.

Fortunately, even though he spent so much energy teleporting through the sky, the monsters they encountered while heading towards the Boss were enough to recharge his energy and even allow him to teleport short distances with each of the imps to see if they could learn to use [Hell Tunneling], but unfortunately, only the imp he had flung earlier was able to use.

Noah was heading towards where the Boss was, but he was truly waiting to meet up with the group of Blessed Ones. As strong as he was now, in addition to his imps being quite useful, as he would have to deal with a Rank D Boss, Noah was not 100% confident of his chances of victory on his own.

The last time he faced a Rank D Boss, if it weren't for Lilith, he would have surely died. And unfortunately, because of the nature that this Boss had, Noah did not believe that Lilith would be of any use in dealing with the Boss. Besides that, his imps might not even be enough to deal with it, since even though they were stronger than previously, several imps still died when fighting normal monsters, let alone fighting the Boss. All of Noah's energy would have to be spent just to revive the imps during the Boss fight, and he himself would have no energy to use his skills against the Boss.

He had already planned an excuse for what he had done to disappear, not that he cared whether or not the other Blessed would believe his lie anyway. The only thing he wanted was for these other humans to serve as shields of flesh for him.

After that cold treatment they had given him, even though he did nothing wrong, Noah's regard for them had already been reduced to nothing, making Noah not care at all who was going to die or survive, in the same way that he believed they had perceived him.

His only exception was the girl he already knew, Amber. Not because of any romantic feelings or anything (Noah knew he didn't have time for things like that for now), but because of the way she treated him: never disrespecting him, never underestimating him, and always treating him with respect despite everything that was happening and the group's suspicions. In particular, she was the only one Noah hoped hadn't died, otherwise he didn't care at all.

The journey through the Fortress became easier and easier. The monsters appeared again only in groups of 2, with the imps dealing with them with less and less difficulty. Eventually Noah ordered them to start attracting two pools of lava, which would double the number they had to fight, consequently increasing the amount of dead after each battle.

But Noah didn't care; what he wanted was to see improvement among these little guys, and that was exactly what he was getting.

The imps were strong together under his command, even though they still didn't truly have a Rank D strength, because of the strategies they had been given by Noah, and because of the unified command that everyone heard without hesitation coming through the mental link that they had with him, their strength grew exponentially.

If they had to fight 1x1 against one of the Blessed ones in the group, Noah didn't believe that any imp would win, but if the battle was 5x5, the story would be different. The synergy that the imps had could not be replicated by these Blessed Ones who hardly knew each other and didn't care about each other, making a 5x5 battle an easy victory. It made Noah think of a very funny possibility for them.

'Imagine a team consisting of 5 imps on Valorwatch? These little guys would definitely be able to get a high rank... Hahahaha' Noah thought as he laughed to himself, watching the imps battle against the monsters that arose in front of him.

Like all of the other times when they had finished eliminating enemies, Noah took the opportunity to absorb the monsters' energy and use this to revive the imps who died during the battle.

While most of the imps looked with envy at the few imps who got eyes to eat, as if they were the luckiest demons in the world for some reason Noah had so far been unable to discover, a noise woke him up and made him look somewhere above one of the hills around where they were.

Noah's gaze also attracted the eyes of the imps, who stopped looking at the lucky one while turning toward the direction of the noise.

And over the hill, who ended up coming was exactly who Noah imagined they would be, and in a way, that he was even happy to see. The group of Blessed humans were there, but just as Noah expected, only a few of them, since several of the other humans probably died along the way.

And the look on their faces as they watched Noah sitting among the imps was priceless.
