Chapter 4691: Going Down the Mountain
The Azure Emperor cast a sidelong glance at her and said, “Your magic is useful, but it doesn’t negate the need for bathing. This magic is best used occasionally when you are traveling and lack bathing facilities. When you have the opportunity, it’s always better to properly bathe and change your clothes.”
With that, he stood up and announced, “There are two hot spring spirit ponds on Yunxiao Mountain. In the future, you can use the smaller spirit pond for bathing. The spring water possesses properties that strengthen your muscles and bones, allowing you to cultivate more efficiently.”
“We know that spirit pond! We’ve been there before. There are two, a large one and a small one, but it seems like there’s a formation barrier protecting them,” Yue’er chimed in.
“Alright then, go back and wash up first, and then wait for me at the mountain gate,” he instructed, gesturing for them to return and freshen up.
“Yes, Master,” the three replied in unison and left to prepare.
They had anticipated a long journey from Yunxiao Mountain to the nearest town, so they were quite surprised when they arrived at the bustling city gate by noon.
However, the three children exchanged curious glances at their master. They couldn’t quite articulate it, but they sensed that his appearance had subtly shifted since they had departed the mountain. Moreover, even though he walked right beside them, they found it strangely easy to momentarily forget he was even there.
What was even more peculiar was that after briefly looking at their master’s face, they would almost instantly forget his features, unable to recall them no matter how hard they tried. Not only that, but the same strange phenomenon applied to each of them. They looked at each other and struggled to clearly remember their own faces, as if a thin, shimmering veil obscured their features, making them difficult to perceive distinctly.
“Did you use some kind of magic, Master?” Hao’er couldn’t help but inquire, his curiosity piqued by this unusual effect.
The Azure Emperor continued to walk with his hands clasped behind his back, his expression serene. “That’s right. People with ordinary cultivation levels would not be able to retain a clear memory of your faces even if they saw you, which will ultimately be safer for all of you.”
He paused briefly, glanced at them with a knowing look, and added, “Sometimes, blending into the ordinary is the greatest blessing.”
Hearing this explanation, the three children didn’t press the matter further. Knowing that this subtle alteration was their master’s doing, they felt a sense of reassurance and accepted it without question.
“I am going to sit in the teahouse up ahead,” he announced, gesturing towards a quaint teahouse not far in front of them. “If you wish to eat or purchase anything, feel free to do so. When you are finished, come and find me there.” From the very beginning, he had no intention of following the three kids as they explored the town.
“Yes, Master,” the three replied obediently and were about to set off on their own when they heard their master’s voice call out again.
“Wait.”
“Master, is there something else? Do you want us to buy something for you to eat? Don’t worry, I’ll buy it for you,” Yue’er offered with a bright smile, ever eager to please.
Hearing her thoughtful offer, the Azure Emperor’s lips curved into a gentle smile. He reached behind him, retrieved a seemingly bottomless cosmos sack, placed it in Hao’er’s hand, and said, “Take this. Buy whatever you desire. Don’t worry about spending too much.”
After a brief pause, he addressed Hao’er specifically, “Yun Chen, you are their older brother. Keep a close eye on them.”
“Yes, disciple understands. Thank you, Master,” Hao’er replied gratefully, bowing respectfully before setting off with Yue’er and Muchen.
“Big Brother, let’s go eat first! I really want to try those green onion pancakes, and some fluffy meat buns, and that sweet sugar water…” Yue’er exclaimed as they walked, her voice bubbling with excitement and anticipation.
“Alright, alright, you little glutton, let’s go eat first,” Hao’er chuckled, smiling warmly as he took both of their hands, leading them towards a small, inviting food stall.
The Azure Emperor watched them for a moment, a fond expression on his face, before slowly strolling towards the teahouse, intending to wait there patiently until they had fully indulged in their exploration and shopping before they all returned to the tranquil embrace of the mountain.
