Chapter 1211 Entering the Game
"Mr. Meyers? Are you there?"
"Your package is here."
Knock. Knock. Knock.
"Mngh…" Just as the young man was still savoring the warmth his bed brought during the early morning, the young man's sleep was rudely interrupted by a series of loud knocks on his door.
Wanting to sleep in just a bit more, the young man forced himself in a half-asleep state as he asked in the loudest voice he could muster, "Who is it?"
"Delivery," said the person on the other side of his door. "The package has already been paid for. If you could receive the package for me, that would be great."
"Just put the package by the side," replied the young man, turning around in a bid to finally return to his rightful slumber. "If you do that, I'll tip your services handsomely."
"Er… if you say so."
And thus, with the sound of boxes shuffling echoing from the outside, the young man soon fell asleep once more, only waking up a few hours later.
…
"Man… that was a good sleep."
Letting out a long yawn as he got out of bed, the young man began to go through his daily routine, only to recall that a small incident had occurred in the middle of his sleep.
Wondering if he dreamed of the situation or not, he decided to make sure by checking the entrance to his apartment, recalling that it came from there.
"If I remember correctly, I was told I got a package or something?" Muttering these words to himself, the young man immediately became wide awake when he saw a couple of boxes neatly stacked on the side of the door.
Closing his eyes for a bit as he tried to recall more of what he said during that time, the young man soon let out a sigh as he eventually remembered what he said near the end.
"Why did I have to say that when I'm already low on money…"
Scratching the back of his head in slight frustration, the young man soon moved all of the boxes he got inside, only to then follow through on his words after that.
"Yeah… 50 Delta is big enough of a tip for something like this." Though he felt a bit annoyed that he said something like that just so he could continue sleeping in peace, the young man's conscience would gnaw at him if he didn't do it.
Confirming that he'd sent the tip to the person that delivered the packages to him earlier, the young man soon began to rub his hands in excitement as he opened the boxes one by one.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Placing the items within the boxes on a nearby table, he then proceeded to neatly store the storage boxes for future use, making use of the experience he accrued in box cutting and box folding.
Removing the protective layers covering the items after that, the young man was soon greeted by the items he'd paid for, grinning from ear to ear as he clenched his fists in excitement.
"Finally… Greater Beyond…" Taking in a few deep breaths to maintain calm, the young man could not help but move at a slightly faster pace than before as he held the copy of Greater Beyond he bought.
"Even though I paid a premium just to get this from the scalpers, it feels like all the troubles I went through are nothing after seeing this in person.
Heading to the pod he used to play True Immersion VRMMORPGs, the young man went ahead and inserted his copy of Greater Beyond into it, only to get a prompt soon after that it needed to download a lot of files before it was playable.
Considering that there was still a couple of things he needed to do before he could play the game in peace, the young man went ahead and accepted the download, making use of the time given to him to do all the things he needed to do.
By the time he was done, all of the files needed for Greater Beyond to run had all been downloaded, causing the excitement that died down while he was waiting to appear once more.
"I should probably take a look at the manual that comes along with it." Making himself comfortable as he laid down within the gaming pod, the young man grabbed the small pamphlet that came along with the copy and began to read through its contents.
However, after going through the pamphlet for a minute or so, the young man decided to toss it aside after realizing that most of what he read was just legal gibberish that would save the company's ass if trouble arose.
"I'll figure it out along the way." Priding himself in the experience he accumulated from playing other True Immersion VRMMORPGs in the past, the young man soon booted up the game, causing his consciousness to be transported into the world of Greater Beyond not long after.
…
[Welcome to Greater Beyond.]
Feeling as if he'd just experienced a flashbang from close range, the young man took a while to adjust to his current surroundings as he heard a feminine voice echo in front of him all of a sudden.
"Huh?" Closing his eyes for a bit to give himself some more time to adjust, he soon opened his eyes once more, only a pure white greeted him almost everywhere he looked.
The only exception to that was the holographic screen that was situated in the forward direction, which contained the words that echoed throughout the white space just now.
[Please select a world.]
Hearing the voice echo throughout the space once more, the young man soon focused his attention on the holographic screen, taking note that a total of 8 worlds were available for him to choose.
"From what I recall, there are two worlds here that are considered good planets to start on." Remembering all of the research he did the day before, the young man went over all of the choices he had before eventually choosing Veldanyr.
[Please select your starter village.]
"Daffors Village," responded the young man the moment the prompt popped up, recalling that the Five Leviathans had made it their spawn point.
'Not only that, but the unique NPC could only be found there.'
After choosing where he would spawn, the young man then adjusted what his character would look like, leaving his height and facial features untouched to make sure he could adapt to his new body properly.
"Light gray hair and a pair of golden eyes… truly the best combo of colors for someone like me."
Satisfied with how he would look like once he spawned, the young man confirmed his choice, only to obtain one more prompt from the game.
[Please write down your name.]
"My name, huh?" Pondering over what name would fit for his current character, the young man eventually decided to go with the name he'd been using in other games.
"Yeah, let's go with Ataraxia."
Ding!
[Name confirmed.]
