MMORPG: Rise of the Primordial Godsmith
Chapter 1320: Checking the Arcane (2)Ding!
[Arcane Codex] (Level 1/10)
Rarity: Common
Ever since mana and other various energies had been discovered throughout the universe, beings have made it their goal to harness the power contained within it and use it for their own purposes.
Though some of these beings can only harness a fraction of the power contained in those energies, a small portion have been given the right to comprehend not only the essence contained in the energies, but also the essence contained in the methods needed to harness its power.
And with both essences comprehended, it is only then that one would be able to comprehend the abstract concept that is the Arcane.
This skill allows the user to string and combine various characters of the Arcane language together before writing them in the Codex, willing spells into existence.
Depending on the characters chosen, as well as the way they are arranged, various effects could be obtained in the created spells.
The user can only combine a certain number of characters together, as well as store a certain number of spells in the Codex depending on the level and rarity of the skill.
However, this limitation could also be improved if one's knowledge of the Arcane language is deepened.Current maximum number of Arcane characters: 3
Current maximum spell slots: 2 (2 unused)
Cost: Depends on the Arcane characters used
Cooldown: Depends on the Arcane characters used
"Well... the description doesn't really tell me what the skill can do as a whole." Scratching the back of his head as he read through the skill a couple of times, Valyr ended up not being sure of what the skill was capable of.
And so, to get a better idea of the skill's capabilities, the young man went ahead and used the skill, hoping that using it at least once would give him a better understanding of what it could do.
"[Arcane Codex]."
Ding!
Staring at the screen that appeared in front of the skill's description, Valyr briefly looked at the scribbles on it for a moment, only to soon feel a sudden influx of information enter in mind.
Although the information he received was all on esoteric characters that resembled nothing like the languages he knew, the young man had a vague feeling that the information had something to do with the scribbles he looked at just a few seconds earlier.
With that, he took a look at the screen once more, immediately noticing that the scribbles had now turned into text that he could understand.
'Create a new spell and discard a created spell, huh.' As his gaze swept over the two lines of text on the screen, Valyr went ahead and focused his attention on the one that allowed him to create a new spell.
Whoosh!
'Select the characters for the spell.' Although the screen's response to his gaze slightly caught him off guard, the young man was still able to remain calm as the screen showed him a different layout compared to before.
Having already read the text at the top that told him what he needed to do, Valyr slowly shifted his attention to the remainder of the screen, which contained a large grid filled with the esoteric characters crammed into his mind sometime earlier.
Finally getting a better idea of what the skill was capable of after looking at the grid, the young man had a smile on his face as he proceeded to choose the three characters that would make up his first spell.
Swoosh!
After choosing three characters that gave him a sharp and aggressive feeling, Valyr watched as the contents of the screen changed once more, showing him how the characters he chose weaved and melded together to form what looked like a crude magic circle.
Ding!
As the crude magic circle the skill created took up most of the screen in front of him, various lines of text soon appeared to its side, giving the young man more information on the spell he just created.
[You have created a new spell.]
[Spell name: Orb of Apyrhan]
[Specifications:...]
[...]
[Would you like to save the spell to the Codex?]
"So... I made a fireball, then." Reading through the lines of text the skill showed him, Valyr eventually confirmed the prompt the system gave him as he now began to understand what the skill was capable of.
"I'll have to compare it to a normal fireball to see if there's any difference between the two." "But from what I've seen thus far..." Valyr grinned at the various thoughts that popped up in his mind. "This skill definitely makes sense for a Mythic Growth class to have." Closing up both of the screens he brought up now that he understood what the class' core skill was capable of, the young man went ahead and brought up the passive skill that was seemingly connected to how strong [Arcane Codex] could become.
"System, identify [Basic Arcane Language Comprehension]."
Ding!
Reading through the description in front of him, Valyr slowly had a look of realization on his face after getting the feeling that the influx of information he felt earlier might have been a side effect of the passive skill itself.
Curious as to whether that was the case, the young man went ahead and read its description to the end, only to confirm that the sudden influx had indeed come from the passive skill. Although he found it somewhat odd that it didn't happen just as he'd ascended to Rank 1, the young man pushed the thought aside as he continued to familiarize himself with what the passive was capable of.
By the time he was done, Valyr summed up what the passive skill allowed him to do into two
Parts.
For one, the skill allowed him to understand the Arcane language at a basic level without him needing to learn it from scratch.
However, if he wanted to bring out more power from [Arcane Codex] and the spells he made themselves, he would have to further deepen his comprehension of the characters that make
Up the language.
As for the other thing the skill allowed him to do, it was the fact that it allowed him to comprehend the essence of these characters through active use of the skill itself.
'And if I were to fully comprehend all of the characters of the Arcane language, I'd basically have a free 25% boost to efficacy on all the spells I create through [Arcane Codex],' thought Valyr to himself, finding the idea both tedious and exciting at the same time.
After all, if he wanted to get the maximum boost out of the skill, he would first need to achieve full comprehension of the Arcane language's 125 characters.
And that was only for the Basic level.
Not wanting to give the idea further thought for the meantime, the young man went ahead
And brought up the description of the other active skill he got from the system, curious if it did anything similar to [Arcane Codex].
