Chapter 1030: Moment of Crisis
Apart from the rapidly closing distance, Ye Lian faced another serious problem-
Her ammunition was running low…
Given the strength demonstrated by the little girl, once they were forced into close combat, Ye Lian would immediately be at a disadvantage. In fact, her ability to remain unscathed until now was largely due to her use of a ranged weapon. In this situation, where there was a clear gap in strength, the effectiveness of firearms was particularly evident.
However, the trouble was that this advantage could not last much longer…
“What’s wrong, why aren’t you shooting anymore? Don’t give up, though it’s not very effective, each shot actually hurts me quite a bit…” the little girl continued moving forward without stopping, “Oh, should I remind you… do you know? Ling Mo and the others are actually nearby…”
“What?” Ye Lian was startled, her steps involuntarily pausing for a moment, but then she suddenly widened her eyes, “Oh no!”
In that brief moment, the little girl had already vanished from her spot and appeared right in front of Ye Lian. Her eyes, curved into crescents due to her smile yet exuding coldness and cruelty, stared directly at Ye Lian, giggling, “Oops, you’ve got a flaw…”
Whoosh!
Along with the innocent laughter of the little girl, a sharp rush of wind suddenly assaulted from the front. Ye Lian, whose pupils dilated in shock, only had time to block with her Sniper Rifle, before her body involuntarily flew backwards and then slammed heavily into a wall.
With a thunderous rumble, the wall partially collapsed. Fortunately, most of the force was blocked by the Sniper Rifle, allowing Ye Lian to quickly rise from the scattered debris. But before she could steady herself, the silhouette of the little girl was already hovering over the remaining section of the wall, still smiling at Ye Lian. She said, “It’s really strange, you’re clearly a Zombie, why do you care so much about human safety? I’ve been giving you a chance to escape… But since you refuse to cooperate, I guess I have to…”
Bang!
Another muffled sound. Ye Lian was thrown back a distance again. She propped herself up on the ground with one hand, leaving five long marks on the concrete before finally stopping.
Just as Ye Lian was about to raise her rifle, she noticed a dent in the barrel of the Sniper Rifle. This mark had just been left by the little girl. She let out a breath, slowly lowered the Sniper Rifle, and with a reverse grip, she pulled out a Short Knife from behind, crouching and warily watching the direction of the little girl.
Under the relentless barrage of attacks, Ye Lian’s clothes had become torn in several places, and her exposed skin was covered in dust. Yet, the more disheveled she appeared, the paler her skin seemed, with bluish blood vessels visible in certain areas, pulsating beneath the surface. Her eyes darted more rapidly than before, reflecting a heightened alertness.
Her entire demeanor had transformed… When she held the Sniper Rifle, she resembled an eagle observing its prey from afar. But now, she was like a fierce beast emerging from the wilderness. Despite the ferocity that enveloped her, her face remained strikingly beautiful, framed by long black hair cascading from her shoulders to her cheeks.
“You see, this is your last chance,” the little girl’s voice echoed from the dust, accompanied by the rhythmic tapping of her small shoes on the concrete floor. “You should have realized that your best option was to run without looking back, rather than fixating on attacking me. Although I explained the fifty-meter rule that way, if you think about it, you should understand… With your Intelligence, you should have figured it out, right? That rule could be interpreted differently-it means that if you escape beyond fifty meters, you’re safe.”
Her figure emerged fully from the haze. “But you insisted on making this wrong choice… What can I say… Oh, I’ve got it.” From less than ten meters away, the little girl shook her head at Ye Lian. “A stubborn Zombie, indeed…”
Whoosh!
Without a word, Ye Lian charged forward unexpectedly. Her speed had increased significantly, and in less than a tenth of a second, her Short Knife slashed toward the little girl’s neck. With a flash of cold light, her agile form and stern expression came into full view.
“Hehe…” The little girl giggled, unfazed by Ye Lian’s sudden attack. She reached out to grab Ye Lian’s wrist. Although Ye Lian was slightly slower, just as the little girl’s hand was about to seize her, Ye Lian’s body twisted sideways in a bizarre manner. The Short Knife slipped through the little girl’s fingers and plunged into her armpit with a soft “thud.”
“Hmm?” The little girl was momentarily stunned. If the scene had been recorded and played back at a hundred times slower speed, it would have appeared as if she had willingly moved into the blade’s path…
In the blink of an eye, Ye Lian withdrew the Short Knife, and with a spray of blood, she pivoted on her toes, moving to the little girl’s side for another strike. ṛã₦ổᛒЁ𝓢
Within a matter of seconds, the little girl’s body was almost entirely soaked in red, and Ye Lian was also splattered with a considerable amount of blood. As her movements finally began to slow, the blood in her eyes thickened as if it were about to flow out. Delicate blood vessels emerged from the corners of her eyes, appearing like sudden bursts of splendid patterns. However, these marks appeared only momentarily before quickly fading away, and Ye Lian’s breathing became noticeably labored.
The little girl’s counterattacks kept missing until she finally seized her chance. With a flick of her wrist, she grasped Ye Lian’s Short Knife. The blade should have slid along her palm, but Ye Lian’s reaction was a heartbeat too slow. In the next moment, she was flung through the air and crashed into another wall.
“I finally understand…” The little girl stepped over the broken wall, looking towards the slowly rising Ye Lian, holding the Short Knife stained with her own blood. In the moment their eyes met, the little girl revealed a slight smile: “It’s your eyes, right?”
“Huff… huff…”
Ye Lian’s chest heaved violently. Although it was only a few seconds of attack, it was the result of her full effort. Yet this little girl was still alive… Despite leaving a trail of bloody footprints with every step she took, compared to the completely unharmed Ye Lian, she seemed utterly disadvantaged. However, Ye Lian knew she had exhausted a lot of her strength, while the little girl’s wounds were slowly healing…
“It was your eyes that saw through my actions, giving you the chance to dodge and attack, right? Hehe, interesting… If you hadn’t put down that Toy, maybe I wouldn’t have figured it out. You carried it, perhaps as a disguise, right? I must say, it was quite effective…” The little girl, holding the knife, watched as blood slowly dripped from its tip, and the distance between her and Ye Lian gradually closed.
“I think it’s about time now… After I kill you, this game will be nearly over. Don’t worry, I’ll go on to kill them all one by one. As for Ling Mo… I’ll let him see your corpse, then I’ll kill him… Oh, by the way, what do you think if I hide behind your corpse? Hehe, good idea, right?” The little girl said with an expectant smile.
“Ling-Ge, run…”
Meanwhile, at the intersection of two Corridors…
Ling Mo suddenly stopped in his tracks, turning to look down the corridor on his left.
“What’s wrong?” A voice called from ahead.
Xu Shuhan stepped back two paces, looking puzzled, “Isn’t this a dead end? And there’s nothing here. Ling Mo, what’s wrong? We need to keep looking…”
Ling Mo remained still, staring at one of the walls, and suddenly said, “No, something’s not right…”
