Chapter 2460: Lure
Sam's plan was executed immediately.
He got the details of the mercenaries and even some recordings of their past battles. This was one of the things Sam told the team to do. He wanted to get a gauge on what he was dealing with.
After checking the videos, he got a plan.
"We are going to target this one guy. The weakest of the bunch. Let's lay down a trap and lure them in. Did you prepare that mole beforehand?"
Sam asked and Haziel nodded.
Another part of Sam's strategy that he wanted them to execute beforehand. To prepare someone within the territory of the enemies.
They shouldn't be of too high status and too eye catching. But also shouldn't be too low. They should be just enough to have some pull in the inner circles of the territory. A person whose words would be trusted, even if with a pinch of salt.
Haziel and their team forced a guy with the soul contract and they even deliberately gave him genuine intel to pass it on to the Hephaestus team.
They had to act as bait and even suffer some minor losses in the hands of that team to make it believable. They decided to use the same tactic again.
"I am sure, they will send that team out, but there is one problem. How do we lure him out specifically. They are way too high in number for us to make it possible."
"True, that's where I come in. I need these resources. I also need someone who can handle the basic formation techniques. So, who among you can do that?"
One of them raised their hand.
"Perfect." Sam already know that guy would raise the hand, he knew these people like the back of his hand, but he didn't want to reveal that. They would be creeped out if he went all out.
"Now, let's pick our battlefield.
Is there a canyon nearby? Something that wouldn't be fazed, even when people at your level are fighting out.
I am sure, with the nature of this planet, there should be something similar."
"There is. Its is a resource point too.
Its close to one of the cities under the opponent's control. But it was full of some native beasts. They called the Gold Crown Eagles."
"That works even better. I need a layout of that canyon. And I need to understand the habits of those eagles."
Haziel provided everything. She was surprisingly obedient and just followed every one of Sam's orders.
Once everything was prepared, Sam and the team moved.
He was always accompanied by two people. One of them being the formation guy, the other was Haziel herself.
Turns out, Ling Tian actually gave an order to them. He said that Sam's life was a lot more valuable than the rest of the team and he shouldn't have a scratch on him.
Sam did enjoy the treatment. They roamed around the canyon while someone from the team went and gave the information to the opponents through the mole.
The trap has been set by evening and the opponents arrived.
A group of forty people. All mercenaries and a bunch of them peak of third grade.
They circled the canyon and found a cliff where they landed and looked around. Even though the canyon was the territory of the Golden Crown Eagles, there were obviously some small areas within that are ignored and empty.
Usually, these dead zones are a great place to hide out. They are surrounded by the predators all around, but those predators won't come in. Small wild life lives in there, so that's a food and energy source.
So, with natural defense and means for sustenance, it is the perfect place.
The mercenary leader split his team into four groups. All four groups spread out within the area and soon each group spotted a couple of people from the Gambler academy. Those two gamble racademy students, used the oldest trick in the book.
It was so old, it shouldn't even be in the book. It should be on the ancient cave wall.
The split up, and suddenly disappeared. The mercenary groups once again split up. They sensed for any spatial fluctuations, but they couldn't find any.
They just gave a good old fashioned chase, while they tried to attack them. But the gambler students always slipped away. After a while, the eight groups of the mercenaries once again encountered a couple of people each.
None of them cared to think that something was wrong with encountered two people again. As the first one, was who they were following since the start, and they haven't seen the newly arrived one before, after they entered this canyon.
Once again they split up.
The mercenaries are of course not stupid, they already understood what was happening. They knew they were being split apart to take down.
However, they didn't care.
One of them was that the space in this dead zone of the canyon was limited. They can easily reach out to each in an instant.
The second was that they still believed they can deal with the students even if they get into one on one fight.
But what they didn't expect was that when all of the mercenary team was split into groups of two, something happened.
The surroundings rippled and all twenty groups found themselves in weird spots. Among them, 19 of them were the exits of the deadzone, connecting it to the territory of the Golden Crown Eagles.
Meanwhile, one group watched with eyes wide open. There Sam stood with the rest of the team and watched as the two mercenaries exchanged a glance,
Before they could call backup, Sam said.
"Don't bother, you are not in the same deadzone.
You are separated from your team."
Sam said and snapped his fingers. Before they knew it, the two mercenaries were bodied and brought back to the hideout.
Then began something that the team didn't expect. They thought, he would just torture them. But Sam has completely different position on that.
