Dan Muyu’s accusation caused the immortals, who had been swayed by Wu Simai’s words, to suddenly snap back to reality.

Indeed, no matter how Ye Xuan argued or tried to separate himself from the explosion of the Nether Yin Springs, it didn’t change one fact: Ye Xuan had used the Demon Emperor Sword to absorb the souls of Nanzhao’s people.

This fact was irrefutable. The sight of the men, women, and children of Nanzhao struggling in the sword’s torment was so harrowing that even cultivators found it hard to bear. This was undoubtedly Ye Xuan’s doing.

“Wu Simai, how do you explain this?!!” Dan Muyu glared at Wu Simai and demanded.

Despite the accusation, Wu Simai’s expression remained resolute. “I knew you would misunderstand, so let me tell you now: Brother Xuan wasn’t using the Demon Emperor Sword to harm people; he was using it to save them–!!!”

“What?!!”

Her words caused an uproar among the angry Nanzhao people and the entire cultivation world. Was she seriously trying to spin this?

“Hahaha, what a ridiculous joke–!!!” Dan Muyu sneered. “Wu Simai, you must be insane. Ye Xuan used the Demon Emperor Sword to absorb the souls of all Nanzhao people, trapping them in endless torment, and you call that saving them? Absurd–!!!”

“High Priestess, do you even know what the Demon Emperor Sword is?!” Wu Simai asked instead of rebutting directly.

“Of course, it’s an evil sword that harms people–!!!” Dan Muyu asserted firmly.

“Really?” Wu Simai glanced at all the cultivators present and asked, “Do you all believe that the Demon Emperor Sword is an evil sword that harms people?!!”

“Wu Simai, stop talking–!!!” Ye Xuan pretended to be troubled and urged her. “You promised me you wouldn’t reveal the sword’s secret.”

“No, I have to speak–!!!” Wu Simai insisted. “Brother Xuan, you are kind-hearted, willing to bear some burdens silently, but I cannot. Even if the world is destroyed, I will not let you suffer any more injustice!!!”

“You… sigh–!!!” Ye Xuan sighed in feigned exasperation. “Do you know what terrifying consequences will come from revealing the secret of the Demon Emperor Sword here?”

“I know, but I don’t care anymore.” Wu Simai responded firmly. “Brother Xuan, don’t you see? No matter what you do, you will always be betrayed by others.”

“This is the punishment from heaven. So why bother about the life and death of the mortal world, silently enduring eternal grievances–!!!” Her eyes showed a hint of sorrow.

“??!!!”

The conversation between Wu Simai and Ye Xuan left the cultivators bewildered.

The secret of the Demon Emperor Sword? What was that? It sounded as if the sword’s secret concerned the survival of the world. Ye Xuan was willing to endure endless grievances to protect this secret?

This sounded like a tale for children. The Demon Emperor Sword was known for its malevolence; every future cultivator knew this. Ye Xuan used it to plunge the world into chaos. Was that false?

Ye Xuan enduring grievances? Ridiculous–!!!

“If I had known, I wouldn’t have told you the sword’s secret,” Ye Xuan pretended to be angry.

“Brother Xuan, I know you’ll blame me, but I still have to say it–!!!” Wu Simai looked at everyone present and said, “Do you really think the Demon Emperor Sword is an evil sword? Do you dare to look into my past–!!!”

“Hahaha, you must be stalling for time, trying to give Ye Xuan a chance to use some hidden card against us–!!!” a future immortal accused. “If the Demon Emperor Sword isn’t evil, then what is it? Are the countless deaths caused by it in the future false?!!”

“Exactly, don’t believe her words. We should kill Ye Xuan first–!!!” another future immortal chimed in.

However, the elders of the Taihua Immortal Sect and the present righteous cultivators began to move closer to Ye Xuan’s side. Although Ye Xuan didn’t deny what he had done, making his crime of destroying Nanzhao undeniable, Wu Simai’s words hinted at something more.

While they didn’t know the truth, their caution wouldn’t allow future immortals to harm Ye Xuan without justification.

Even the present Dragon Princess moved to stand opposed to her future self. As long as Ye Xuan’s guilt wasn’t confirmed, the righteous cultivators wouldn’t tolerate anyone harming him. This was a principle they must uphold.

“Damn, you will regret this–!!!” Cheng Xianwu shouted angrily at them. Seeing her past self also siding with Ye Xuan infuriated her. But there was no choice; this was the principle of righteous cultivators.

The order of the world was maintained by these righteous cultivators. If they didn’t follow the rules, the world would descend into chaos. Some might enjoy such a world, thinking themselves strong, but strength was relative.

Most people preferred a world where even the powerful couldn’t oppress the weak arbitrarily.

“Enough, Cheng Xianwu.” Future Qin Zhenren spoke, seeing Cheng Xianwu’s anger. “This is what righteous cultivators should do. Since Wu Simai wants to argue in Ye Xuan’s defense, let’s hear what she has to say.”

“Hmph, it’s just a delaying tactic. How can she turn black into white?” Cheng Xianwu scoffed but said no more.

With Qin Zhenren speaking, the future immortals reluctantly held back. Mo Qingshang felt frustrated. If he had known, he would have rallied the future immortals to attack Ye Xuan earlier.

Considering Ye Xuan’s current memory restoration, his threat was far greater now than after a rebirth.

At least, killing Ye Xuan now would give them time to obtain the Divine Emperor Sword. With it in hand, even Ye Xuan couldn’t escape death.
