Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 214: Chapter Two Hundred and Fourteen: Protect Them Completely

The next day, as both of them needed to rush to the Refuge, Lu Hao and Su Jin got up early. Liang Jiuhui had even arranged a driver and a car for them, and the driver was considerately waiting at their villa’s front door.

“Good morning,”

Lu Hao and Su Jin both greeted the driver politely.

Driver Jiao was somewhat surprised. Liang Jiuhui had told him that the two individuals he was to pick up today were both formidable Special Ability Users and that they were to escort today’s Survivors being relocated.

However, he hadn’t expected these two individuals to be so young and to be a handsome man and beautiful woman. What mattered most was that both young people greeted him politely without a hint of condescension.

Good morning… This greeting, which had been so common before the Apocalypse, made Driver Jiao feel for a moment as if he had returned to a peaceful morning from before the world’s end.

“Good morning, my surname is Jiao; you can call me Driver Jiao,”

Driver Jiao said to the two sitting in the back.

“Hello, my name is Lu Hao, and this is my wife, Su Jin,” Lu Hao replied politely.

Driver Jiao nodded, his impression of the two young people improving even further.

For convenience today, Su Jin had specifically carried a backpack. Unlike before, they couldn’t recklessly take things out in the car. Carrying a backpack would help them conceal the existence of the Space if they needed to quickly use something.

The car slowly exited the base’s main gate. Along the way, it was evident that Driver Jiao must have frequently traveled this route; he took paths where Zombies appeared the least. Still, he kept his eyes peeled outside, not daring to be careless.

For some reason, the closer they got to their destination, the more pressure Su Jin felt. It was only now, as they were about to arrive, that she realized the enormity of the task she had so easily accepted the day before—they were to ensure the safety of more than five hundred people!

Following yesterday’s incident, the Refuge had decided to relocate fewer people today, but even so, there were still over five hundred Survivors.

As the saying goes, with pressure comes motivation, and a sense of mission welled up within her.

Today, no matter what, they had to ensure the safety of these people!

Inside the Refuge, Liang Wei watched Li Haochu, who was still at his work post. He seemed to be commanding his subordinates in an orderly fashion, but the fatigue in his eyes and the wrinkles between his brows revealed that he was not in a good state.

“Old Li, take a break,” Liang Wei sighed.

Seeing Shao Zian taking a tally of people with a list, Li Haochu nodded and sat down heavily in a deserted stand.

Liang Wei also sat down, looked ahead, and said, “I will definitely give you an explanation for Ah Feng’s incident.”

At the mention of this name, Li Haochu immediately had tears in his eyes. Ah Feng was the Metal Element Ability User who led the team yesterday. He had been with Li Haochu since before the Apocalypse and had fortunately awakened his Metal Element Ability after it. Li Haochu had come to regard Ah Feng almost like a son, and it was unthinkable that such an incident had occurred the day before.

“Ah Feng’s death is too wrong. I want to clear his name as soon as possible,” Li Haochu said with a choke in his voice.

Because of the total annihilation of the team and Survivors, Ah Feng was practically being labeled a sinner through the ages. Sometimes, Li Haochu felt relieved that he was already dead; otherwise, if he could hear how the entire Refuge’s Survivors were cursing him as a villain—even his ancestors—it would be worse than death.

Although Li Haochu had tried to explain to those angry Survivors, without evidence, no one was willing to believe him.

If only they could find evidence, at least Ah Feng wouldn’t have died wrongfully.

“Don’t worry, we will definitely find it. Jiuhui has already started investigating,” Liang Wei said, patting Li Haochu’s shoulder to comfort him.

At this moment, Peng Qi ran over and said something to Liang Wei. Liang Wei immediately stood up after hearing it.

“Have they arrived?” Li Haochu asked.

Liang Wei nodded, Liang Jiuhui had already informed them of his plans and intentions, so they were aware that Su Jin and Lu Hao had accepted this mission today. ṚáƝοꞖÊṡ

Su Jin and Lu Hao had been led to the conference room, and although they had only passed through a corner of the refuge, they could already sense its somber atmosphere. Suspecting the reason behind it, the two did not say anything, sitting quietly in the conference room waiting.

Liang Wei entered the room and saw the two young people who appeared to be in good spirits, and the phrase “youth to be reckoned with” came to his mind.

No matter when these two appeared, they were always so dazzling, hardly like those who had lived through the Apocalypse.

At times like this, he found himself somewhat envious of them. Although Jiuhui was of the same age as them, perhaps because of his upbringing from a young age, he seemed much more mature than these two.

“We really are putting you two to trouble this time,” Liang Wei said as soon as he entered.

“You’re too polite, we’ve received corresponding compensation, and can hardly speak of any trouble,”

As Su Jin quickly stood up to respond, Liang Wei seemed to have aged several more years. In just a few days of not seeing him, his hair had turned significantly whiter.

The few people did not talk long in the conference room before Shao Zian pushed the door and came in. He nodded to Lu Hao and Su Jin, then told everyone that everything outside was ready.

In addition to Su Jin and Lu Hao, Shao Zian was also a member of the team today. With the joining of Su Jin and Lu Hao, the convoy escorting the Survivors seemed smaller than the previous few.

The vehicles for transferring the Survivors were buses that had been in use before the Apocalypse, which Liang Jiuhui had focused on retrieving while collecting materials before, so that they could be used now.

“What’s going on? Just these few people to protect us? Not even as many as last time!” one of the already boarded Survivors said.

“Can’t be, why am I so unlucky? I chose to leave today; can I still get off?”

“We’re done for, we’re done for today…”

Su Jin and Lu Hao passed in front of these people without any expression, and Lu Hao even glanced inside the bus.

That glance silenced everyone in the vehicle.

Did that person just glare at us?

He really did glare at us, right?

Is this really a bus heading to the base…

Can we still get off now?

At the side entrance of the Refuge, Chen Xiarong entered while adjusting her collar. At the end of the corridor ahead was the main entrance of the Refuge, and as she looked up, she saw a familiar figure. Was that… Lu Hao?!

Her eyes widened, no longer caring about her undone buttons, she dashed forward quickly.

The Refuge was vast, and she never felt the corridor before her to be so long. Though she ran fast, the man had already left. By the time she reached the door, she could clearly see that it was indeed Lu Hao!

“Brother Lu!” Chen Xiarong couldn’t help but call out.

Lu Hao had already boarded the last bus; to react quickly in case of danger, he and Su Jin had agreed to sit on the first and last buses. Su Jin was on the first one and hadn’t noticed the commotion here.

But Lu Hao heard, he turned his head, recognizing Chen Xiarong, whom he had encountered on the road with Su Jin that day.

Upon that, Lu Hao smiled…
