Chapter 1145: A Slightly Early Timing (3)

Chapter 1145: A Slightly Early Timing (3)

‘W-Who should I sacrifice?’

I had to look around slowly. No Dam-Hye was excluded since she was a promising talent with a bright future, so I could only consider either Lim Chae-Ryeong, Raymond Bolt, or Nam Goong-Seon.

There was no fixed order when it came to death, but Raymond Bolt, the party’s reliable elder, seemed like the right choice. He was someone I had to get rid of someday, and if the team’s oldest member ended up dying, the impact could be quite great.

I obviously considered many possibilities, but despite that, it wasn’t easy to make a decision.

What about Lim Chae-Ryeong, who was starting to build an indescribable relationship with Woo Hyo-Yeol? Sacrificing Nam Goong-Seong to ensure Lim Chae-Ryeong's awakening wouldn't be a bad choice, either.

After much deliberation, I ultimately decided to postpone the decision.

‘It’s better than making a careless decision.’

I was actually thinking that it was still too early. The party needed more time to truly become one, and the party members had yet to build a deep relationship with each other. Sacrificing someone using a poorly constructed story would only create tension between them, which would eventually lead to mistrust.

‘Trust them.’

'Yeah, I’ll trust the party members whom I chose myself. Whether it’s one or two, someone is bound to get hurt, so I’ll just leave it to fate.'

A master playwright wouldn't make characters do things; they would simply guide them to act naturally. There was also the saying that characters tended to move on their own, and there was no guarantee that something like that wouldn't happen in Woo Hyo-Yeol’s party.

Kgh!

Despite bringing Thronus to a battlefield that was advantageous for the party, the battle was still difficult.

Raymond Bolt blocked another attack and lost his balance again.

Thronus couldn't swing his sword properly, but Raymond still had a hard time blocking it.

Nam Goong-Seon was also getting exhausted mentally and physically because she had to focus her healing on him with each attack.

Jung Ha-Yan was doing the best out of all of them, but fighting back against Dominions’ interference while making sure that Thronus couldn't move freely was tiring her out.

In addition, it seemed like she wasn't really focused, as she was mumbling stuff like, “Why isn’t Sera…”

Hyaaaaaaah!

While Raymond Bolt was recovering, Lim Chae-Ryeong protected the party, but of course, it didn’t make sense for her to do that.

Just one second—If Grandpa Bolt were one second late in finding his balance, Lim Chae-Ryeong would die at Thronus’ hands.

The training in the dungeon had to have been really effective because the members had gotten pretty skilled. They had to do at least this much with all the enhancement magic and buffs that they were getting, or they would die.

It was undeniable that the party members were putting on an inspiring performance.

“Grandpa, watch your left,” I warned.

“...”

Raymond was running inside the building to try to shake off Thronus’ pursuit, and he held up his shield to his left when I warned him.

Thronus’ sword bounced off Raymond's shield. When it bounced in a different direction, Lim Chae-Ryeong threw her daggers at Thronus.

Considering Thronus' Endurance, it was a ridiculous attack, but Thronus pulled back his sword and slashed out. However, he attacked Jung Ha-Yan’s magic crystals instead of Lim Chae-Ryeong's daggers.

Swooooooosh! Boooooooooom!

I heard a loud explosion as a result of the attack.

The party members ran out of the smoke and into the narrow hallway.

Everyone hurriedly moved to the next location.

“How much longer… pant… pant… do we need to run?” Lim Chae-Ryeong asked.

“...”

“W-We are going to live, right?” Lim Chae-Ryeong asked.

“Probably,” I answered.

“What?”

“There’s no point in making assumptions. We need to do our best to get out of here,” I told her.

Ugh…” Lim Chae-Ryeong groaned.

“What did I say party two’s objective was?” I asked.

“H-Helping party one? But in situations like this—”

“We have to do it. That’s the only way we can survive,” I interrupted her.

“...”

“Grandpa, please get ready,” I instructed him.

“Get ready to…”

To support Woo Hyo-Yeol, of course.

After shaking off Thronus twice using the same method, we reached the upper floors of the building. Raymond loaded his crossbow and fired at Cherubim.

Cherubim focused on his fight against Woo Hyo-Yeol stepped backward to avoid Raymond's attack, but Woo Hyo-Yeol immediately stepped forward to take charge of the battle.

“Ride this down,” I said.

“What? I-I’m afraid of heights,” Lim Chae-Ryeong stuttered.

We moved to the next building using the rope connected to the large arrow stuck on the ground.

Unfortunately, there were obstacles along the way.

“He’s coming! The silver-haired angel is coming!” Lim Chae-Ryeong shouted.

The moment we moved, Thronus took to the skies and charged at us with his sword.

Divine Blessing and Shield were immediately cast on us, but it wouldn't change the fact that we were still out in the open. After moving to the next building, we immediately ran around like rats. Then, there was a loud boom, and the wall collapsed, revealing Cherubim and Woo Hyo-Yeol.

Kgh!

“...”

We were fighting different battles, but we were bound to run into each other, as there wasn't enough space for us to move around freely. It was unexpected for Woo Hyo-Yeol, but it wasn’t the case for the party members.

Raymond took out his mace and knocked Cherubim back with his shield before swinging his mace at Cherubim.

“...”

Lim Chae-Ryeong tried to fight at melee range while hiding behind Grandpa Raymond’s shield, but the gust of wind created by his large wings forced her to come to a halt as if there were an invisible wall before her.

Ugh,” Lim Chae-Ryeong groaned.

“Let’s move again,” I instructed.

“What?”

“Putting those two together is dangerous,” I said.

Thronus and Cherubim had always been in sync since birth, and their teamwork couldn't be underestimated at all.

Just then, Thronus appeared before Cherubim.

Cherubim finally saw his brother for the first time since the battle started, and he immediately asked, “Thro, are you okay? You look…”

‘He looks like he's in pretty bad shape, right?’

It wasn’t a fierce battle, but it was probably an annoying and confusing battle.

He was aware of our movements, and he quickly countered our attacks.

It was clear that we were fast and agile, but he was always just close to landing his attack. We never fought back; all we did was cast spells while running through the maze-like building.

I was sure he wanted to destroy the building or bring it down, but he was worried about hurting me.

‘He won’t be able to do that.’

“Yeah, I’m fine, Cheru. I think Auntie is helping them. How are you doing?” Thronus asked.

“I’m kind of having a hard time. It’s harder than I thought,” Cherubim answered.

“We can’t let Father and him get separated. It’ll be more effective if we fight together,” Thronus said.

‘He’s right.’

We were at a disadvantage because we were basically cornered.

Unlike Lim Chae-Ryeong, Woo Hyo-Yeol, and Raymond Bolt, who had more stamina than us, Nam Goong-Seon and No Dam-Hye were on the verge of collapse.

Their legs were shaking, and they were breathing in ragged pants. The battle wasn't exactly complicated, but they were fighting powerful monsters here, so it wasn't strange that they were under a lot of mental pressure.

Haa… haa…

Pant… pant… pant…

“...”

Obviously, they looked hopeless.

No one said anything, but they knew the end was coming.

“Support,” Woo Hyo-Yeol said.

“What?”

“Support me,” Woo Hyo-Yeol said.

“...”

“Do you think I’m going to lose?” Woo Hyo-Yeol asked.

“...”

Ptooey.” Woo Hyo-Yeol spat on the ground and raised his sword again. He seemed tired, but he didn’t believe that he was going to lose.

It was like the time when he fought William; he emanated confidence bordering arrogance. It was a type of confidence only warriors who had crossed the line of life and death could possess. Obviously, emotions like that are contagious.

‘He can do it.’

He could still win. His performance in the dungeon was great, and his fight against that monster made me believe that victory was within reach. I nodded to show that I had hope.

‘We can win.’

'It’s… It’s still too early to give up.'

“We can do it, everyone,” I said.

That was why he couldn't give up here.

“We’ll fight them using the formation that is the most familiar to us,” I ordered.

I was talking about the modified triangle formation that they had learned how to use in the dungeon. Of course, this situation was completely different from when they used it in the dungeon.

It was easy to hunt undead monsters as they were devoid of intelligence, but their current opponents were beings with intelligence beyond human limits.

‘Does it look impossible?’

Of course, it wasn’t going to be easy.

‘But I can do it.’

A story where the progression was set in stone from start to finish.

It contained a hopeful cliche where they would take down the enemy by using the formation that they had learned while inside a dungeon.

The party members got into formation.

The map wasn’t that big, but Woo Hyo-Yeol was still kind of far from us.

Raymond was at the front, and Lim Chae-Ryeong was on the right. We left our left side open, and Nam Goong-Seon and Jung Ha-Yan immediately cast their spells.

‘We can do it.’

“Let’s go,” I said.

Woo Hyo-Yeol swung his sword with gnashed teeth. Raymond was trying to push the enemies toward the left. The girls cast their spells to force the enemies into one place.

“Thro!” Cherubim shouted.

Ugh! I’m okay, Cheru,” Thronus answered.

Cherubim and Thronus were out of sync.

Jung Ha-Yan’s spells were interfering with them at the right moment, so they couldn't move in sync at all.

“Now!” I exclaimed.

Woo Hyo-Yeol was also using party two. He swung his sword nonstop, but the fact that he was trying his best to corner Cherubim indicated that he was worried about his stamina.

“Now!” I repeated.

“...!”

“Cheru.”

“Yeah, Thro.”

Of course, they weren’t idiots. I could see them gritting their teeth. I had lost my memories, but they looked up to me, so they had no plans of embarrassing themselves before me.

I was the one ordering the party, but I was nothing but a tool.

Unfortunately, the perfectly aligned gears could fall out of place in an instant.

Thronus swung his sword at Raymond and spread his wings immediately afterward to turn at an unnatural angle in midair. He was flying toward Cherubim and Woo Hyo-Yeol, who weren't within the formation.

‘No.’

Nam Goong-Seon was instructed to cast defensive-type spells on Woo Hyo-Yeol once necessary, but it was clear that she had exhausted all of her holy power.

It was a perfectly timed coincidence.

“Mr. Hyo-Yeol!” I shouted.

And.

“...”

“...”

Lim Chae-Ryeong stood in Thronus’ path.

Shwik!

Cough.

A sword pierced Lim Chae-Ryeong’s chest.

Cough… ah… ugh…” Lim Chae-Ryeong coughed.

It felt like time had stopped.

Uh…

“Chae-Ryeong…”

Ah… ah… cough… cough…

Without realizing it, I found myself yelling out her name.

“Miss Chae-Ryeong!!!"
