Chapter 1509: Temporary Changes
Damian and the girls watched in awe as the man who had come out of nowhere decapitated Yogarthis in one movement and then killed him so thoroughly that nothing remained.
And during the entire time, Yogarthis could do absolutely nothing at all.
After the Constellation died, Ning flew down to the ground and looked at the wounded men and women all around them. He waited as they all stared at him and said, "Your god is dead. Go find a new one."
The people screamed and ran away in fear.
Ning looked at Damian and his girls. "Are you guys alright?" he asked. "Thanks for the sword."
Damian took back his sword, still unable to let go of the feeling of awe he so completely felt. "Who... are you?" he asked.
"My name is Ning, as for who I am exactly, I cannot explain it to you all since you wouldn't understand. I'm the closest thing to a god you can find, but I am definitely not a god."
Damian and the girls gasped when they heard that. They had not expected Ning to call himself a god at all.
"Thank you for helping us, sir Ning. Without you, I might have died today," Damian said. "Thank you."
"Thank you so much."
The women began thanking him one by one as well.
Damian turned around and looked at the red-haired woman beside him. "Celine... are you alright?" he asked.
Celine sniffled a little before nodding. "I'm okay. I'm sorry, Damian. If not for me-"
Damian took her into a hug, stopping her from speaking any further. "I thought I had lost you. It was all my fault. I should have known that bastard would do that. He threatened me so too."
"It's okay," another woman spoke. "We're all okay, and that's all that matters."
"You guys take care," Ning said. "I'll go-"
"Sir Ning, no," Damian said quickly. "Please, you helped us. Let me return the favor in any way I can."
"Oh, no need. I didn't really help you. I helped myself back there. I do not need-"
"Please, sir. I, Damian Starrider, must do something for you after such an important thing you've done for me. Even if it is just a single lunch, please let me host you."
Ning thought for a moment and shrugged. "Why not?" he said. "You guys go home and deal with your injuries first. Then you can host me when you are free."
Damian thought for a moment and nodded. "I will do that," he said. "Would you like to come with us then?"
"No, I'll be on my own for a while," Ning said.
"Then... how will I contact you?" Damian asked. "Do you live close by?"
"No," Ning said. "Like I said, I'm the closest thing to a god. Just set up lunch when you can, and I'll be there. For now, I'll leave."
Ning disappeared from the place, going to somewhere else. He was supposed to leave this world right away, but it appeared he would have to stay for a few days, so he decided to go on a small tour around this massive world and see a few things.
He met the people here, saw the culture, and judged the magic of this world. If not for the size of the planet, Ning thought he would most certainly have wanted to take this planet into his inner world.
Alas, he would have to find some other, better planet.
Ning traveled the world, and on the 4th day of his travel, Ning received a very unusual message from his system.
<The System has received directives from the Creator to make some temporary changes.> <Would you like to opt in?>
Ning had been sitting on top of a large elephant-like beast, roaming the forest when he received that message.
He sat up, looking at the notification he had received. "Wait, temporary changes?" Ning asked. The last time he had received such changes was after he had given back some feedback.
Had someone else given back some feedback perhaps?
"What sort of changes are these?" Ning asked.
<The system will alter the way it functions for a small duration for an experiment>
<Would you like to opt in?>
"What sort of functions? How small a duration?" Ning asked.
<System cannot tell you what sort of functions. The lack of knowledge regarding said functions is part of the experiment. As for the duration, it will last for 3 years.>
<The experiment will end in 3 years, whether or not you complete it>
"What exactly are the backdraws?" Ning asked. "I should start from that, should I not?"
<Regular functions of the Energy System will not be available during that time for the sake of the experiments.>
<The rest will depend on various other circumstances that cannot be predetermined>
Ning did not like lacking the Energy system, but then if it was temporary, he didn't have much
to lose.
"Are there any benefits?" Ning asked.
<Participating doesn't have any benefit. But should you complete the experiment, you will receive a very special benefit, directly from the creator.>
Ning's eyes widened. "You should have said that earlier," he said. "Of course, I accept now."
<The System will undergo the changes when you allow it.>
Ning paused. "Oh, you will shut down, won't you?" he asked. That wasn't a good thing for
him, not yet.
<The Intelligence of the System will shut down, but the system itself will be very much
active.>
"Can I kill Constellations while the Intelligence is down?" Ning asked.
<You can, but you will have to do it through the interface too>
Ning shook his head. "I'm not doing that. Not right now at least," he said. "Let's ignore the Constellations for now. Find me some interesting worlds to visit that have no Constellations.
I will chill there while you take your time with the changes."
<As you wish.>
<also, Damian Starrider has prepared lunch for you.>
Ning raised an eyebrow. "Oh, he did? I should visit him then."
